Chapter 72

They say that life is 50% chance and 50% choice, that people are given an opportunity to make decisions of their own when facing anything that requires them to choose.

Sometimes people are given a good chance in life but due to wrong choices, the opportunity will just go down the drain while there are also instances where because of good choices, people are turning their small chances to be the big step for a good change in their lives.

When Rina saw her best friend aimed the gun towards the little girl she knew right at that moment that the Moon above the dark sky is giving her a chance, the last one way ticket to redeem herself and maybe to show that she's also choosing to do the right thing to do after all the wrong choices she has made in the past.

She knew that the gun Alex was carrying has the purest silver bullets that intend to kill Aria and knew that Kinana would not be able to survive.

Not thinking twice, the alpha who turned pale at the thought of death jumps in front of the little girl and took the bullet  the moment she saw Alex pull the trigger.

It only took a few seconds after the sound of a gunshot, another one was fired but this time, the gunshot cane from Dylan and was aimed towards  Alex who immediately dropped on the floor after that fatal blow straight to the head.

The scene inside the storage area in the warehouse is so dreadful.

Aria who just came back to her senses saw her ex best friend Rina took the bullet for her baby.

She screamed because of the fear for her daughter's life but when she saw Cyrus already holding Kiana in his arms she finally breathes again.

She ran towards her mate and their pup to make sure that they are safe. She saw that Alex was already down on the floor.

Cyrus hugs his mate and their daughter while kissing their temples.

When Aria is finally sure that her daughter was safe, she turns to look at her pup's savior.

She momentarily let go of Kiana and gave Cyrus a knowing look before crawling towards Rina who's now covered in blood on the floor.

"What the hell Rina! What the hell?!" Aria’s eyes are brimming with tears while holding her. She doesn't even know where to put her hands because all she could see was blood.

She tried to remove her jacket to press it on her chest where the blood keeps coming out but it just won't stop.

Cyrus’s knows Kiana needs her mother too but with Rina’s condition he knows the two needed the closure they both deserve.

No one knows yet, but Rina actually sent him a message a while ago telling him Alex and Julius’s plan about killing his mate and their pup.

Rins told him that she would try to buy some time to make sure Alex doesn’t do anything to Aria or Kiana until they arrive.

That's why she was told about the fact that Aria is a pureblood omega.

Cyrus also knows that Rina chose to stay with Alex until the end not because she wants to fight beside her but because she wanted to make sure Kiana did not get hurt.

Alex didn't even realize that Rina put earbuds in Kiana’s ears to protect her from anything she might hear.

She also made sure Kiana didn't see the gruesome happenings in the warehouse by putting a blindfold on the child's eyes.

"Why...w-why are you crying Ria? I-i'm sorry... I'm s-sorry." Rina swallows the blood in her mouth while using the last of her strength to apologize to her best friend.

She couldn't see Aria anymore because her eyes have become blurry due to her tears. She knows that she only has a few minutes left, and she wants to apologize to her best friend.

"Sshhhh, stop talking Rina! Fuck! Dylan! Uncle someone!! call an ambulance please!!!!"

Aria screams at the two other alphas. She didn't even look at them because her eyes are only focused on Rina who's now having a hard time breathing.

"No..n-no amb-bulance R-Ria...I just w-want to-apologize for ev...everything." Rina stutters as she coughs out more blood.

"Stop, stop talking Ri! No! I refuse to accept your apology now! You have to live! please, hang in there don't---" Aria had to bite her lips when she saw her best friend's pale hands reaching for  her face.

She crouches down to help her cup her  face by putting her hand on top of hers.

She is not a hypocrite. She hates the alpha, she hates how her best friend deceived him for years.

She hates how she agreed to everything Alex and Julius did to her family.

She hates how they connived to manipulate her but after knowing the truth as to why she was forced to do all those things and after witnessing it with her own eyes how her best friend who betrayed her saved her pup, all the pain and betrayal that was etched in his heart already melted.

She knows it would be questionable for others. She knows people might think she’s dumb for choosing to forgive her at that very moment but for her who grew up with no family, she knows she would've done the same thing Rina did for her own mother too.

When her best friend speaks again, Aria knows right at that moment that her heart is breaking not because of betrayal anymore but because of the sudden fear that tonight, she is about to lose someone again.

"Y-you'll finally sing for y-your Kiana again Aria... P-please tell her, Aunty Riri really l- loves her. I l-love you Aria." Rina says as she takes her last breath and her hand goes limp in Aria’s hand.

Aria  squeezes the hand on his face as he nods silently while crying. She knows Rina had a choice, she could've saved herself too but she chose to save Kiana in the end and that is more than enough to forgive her. Aria brought her best friend's hand to her lips and kissed it for the last time.

"I love you too Rina... I promise, Kiana won't ever forget you. T-thank you." Aria whispered to her best friend's lifeless body before she pulled her into one last hug while her wolf howled in grief.

Healing My Seven Broken Beast Mates Novel Cover
9.4
My retirement was finally approved, and I was supposed to be sipping drinks on a sunny beach. Instead, a cold system voice forced me into a nightmare scenario: "Cursed Mates Who Want Me Dead." I woke up in a stinking cave, trapped in the body of a psychopathic tribal princess. The memories that flooded my brain made me sick. The original owner of this body had forcibly marked seven of the continent's most powerful beast-men and reduced them to tortured pets. She had ripped the shimmering scales off Jordi the Merfolk prince, gouged out a proud wolf-man's power crystal, and snapped an eagle-man's magnificent wings. Now, Jordi was a mutilated, terrified mess hiding in a corner. He was so traumatized that he tried to slit his own throat just to escape me. His sister was actively trying to assassinate me. To make matters worse, the system warned me that if I didn't heal these seven ticking time bombs, my soul would be erased. Yet the future timeline clearly showed that these men would eventually unite, burn my tribe to the ground, and dismember me alive. I was paying for a monster's sins. Every time I tried to show mercy, they thought it was a sick new torture method. Words were useless, and my very presence was a trigger. But I am a Tier-S operative, and I don't play the victim. I forced the system to unlock my powers and strapped on my tactical gear. "Stay here and don't starve." I left the trembling Merfolk behind and walked into the deadly primitive forest, heading straight for the powerful Oasis Tribe to take back his stolen scales by force.

Ninety-Nine Times, Then No More Novel Cover
7.3
This was the ninety-ninth time I caught my husband, Chase Vargas, with another woman in our five-year marriage. I stood in the hotel doorway, numb, tired of the cheap perfume and his cold, familiar eyes. But this time, his mistress, a blonde woman, hissed, "He told me all about you. The pathetic wife he's stuck with because of some business deal. He said he can't stand the sight of you." Her words, meant to hurt, were things I already knew, things Chase had made sure I understood. Still, hearing them from a stranger felt like a new humiliation. She lunged, scratching my face, drawing blood. The sting was a surprising jolt in my numb world. I wrote her a check, a routine part of this pathetic scene. Then my phone rang. It was Chase, calling from across the room. "What are you doing? Are you making a scene? Clean it up and get out. You're embarrassing." He thought I had orchestrated this, that I was the embarrassing one. The betrayal was casual, complete. "I'm tired, Chase," I said, the words finally coming from a place I thought had died. "I want a divorce." He laughed, a cruel sound. "A divorce? Elena, don't be ridiculous. You love me too much to ever leave me." I hung up. He then handed me a signed divorce agreement, telling me his true love, June, my adopted sister, was back. He wanted me to play the dutiful wife for her welcome-home concert. My heart, which I thought had turned to stone, felt a final, crushing blow. He wasn't divorcing me because I wanted it. He was divorcing me for her. I signed the papers. The ninety-ninth time was the last time he would do this to me.
