Alpha's Betrayal, Luna's Vengeance
Chapter 2
According to my memories from my past life, the city would erupt into chaos in just two hours. To avoid the tragedy that befell us before, I had to get Indigo out of the city as quickly as possible. I hurriedly packed our valuables and led Indigo out of the city gates. If I remembered correctly, most regions were already overrun by rogues, but Lizon was the safest haven left.
We headed west, and along the way, we crossed paths with Evan. He was stopped by the roadside, gently offering water to Amelia. His tenderness made my eyes sting with unshed tears. In the past, he had always claimed that his child needed strict discipline, often scolding Indigo with a cold demeanor. I should have realized sooner that his so-called strictness was just a cover for his indifference toward us.
I tried to steer clear of him, but Evan suddenly called out to me. “Aurora, I’ve come to my senses. The city isn’t safe. Let me take you and Indigo to Lizon together.” His tone was sincere, as if he genuinely cared about our safety.
Indigo, who had never received such gentleness from him, immediately rushed over with joy. “Daddy, you’re the best! I knew you wouldn’t leave me and Mommy behind!”
He smiled, lifting Indigo into the car, then turned to the passengers inside with a sharp tone. “Get out. Indigo’s fragile. The car is for her and her mother.” He motioned to me. “Aurora, you and Indigo take the car. It’s faster.”
Though I hesitated, I knew Indigo couldn’t walk far, and the car was the quickest way to reach Lizon. But when Estelle stepped out with Amelia, there was a glint of triumph in her eyes. She leaned in and whispered to me, “You and your daughter can enjoy this ‘blessing.’ Let’s see if you’ll even make it there.”
Her words sent a chill down my spine. I turned to Evan, but his smile had vanished. He barked at the driver, “Head north. As far away from us as possible.”
Indigo poked her head out, her voice trembling. “Daddy, aren’t you coming with us?”
He shook his head, his expression calm. “No, you and your mother go ahead. I’ll catch up later.”
A sense of dread washed over me, but before I could react, a rogue lunged at the car, killing the driver right before my eyes. They had seen the luxurious vehicle and targeted us. Despair clawed at my chest as I realized Evan’s kindness was nothing but a trap to sacrifice us as a distraction.
The horrors of my past life flashed before my eyes. The rogue raised his claw, demanding I hand over Indigo. I clutched her tightly, refusing to let go even as they dragged us out of the car, kicking and stomping on us. The physical pain intertwined with the agony in my heart, and I coughed up blood, my body breaking under the assault.
I looked toward Evan’s retreating figure, my voice hoarse as I pleaded, “Evan, for the sake of our five years as mates, please save Indigo!”
Indigo sobbed, her voice small and terrified. “Daddy… I’m scared! Please, Daddy!”
But he didn’t look back.
