Chapter 4

Hailey's POV: I don't think I have seen anyone have a blank expression like Sherman Gatsby. I can't read his expression as his eyes are glaring at me as soon as he heard about my deal. My heart was beating rapidly and I feel like I am going to throw up if I don't leave his presence. My wolf was whimpering and pacing as his Alpha aura was too powerful for her even if I am the Alpha Blooded female. "Are you trying to sell yourself, Miss.Synder!" He asked, his finger and thumb pinching my chin in a hard grip, his voice sounded angry and there was some amusement too. I blinked my eyes, too stunned to speak anything. His question caught me off guard. I didn't expected him to be so blunt and straight forward. "Mrs.Gatsby likes me, I won't stop you from having other women in your life, I can help you keep your grandmother off your back and once everything settles down, you can leave me anytime." I said, his eyes narrowed as they trailed along my face. "You are so considerate too, Miss.Synder." He amused, a teasing smirk turned his lips. He is having fun seeing me squirm under his harsh scrutiny. "Pity! I don't take a woman who sells herself so willingly to a stranger." Sherman's words pinched my heart and my face heated up with embarrassment and shame. He doesn't know what place I am in. He was the Alpha and an heir to his empire so he doesn't know the value of money and the helplessness which follows with it. With a last glare aiming towards me Sherman left me standing there, looking like a fool who just tried to sell herself. He intimidates me so much that I feel weak in my knees in his presence. I sighed a breath of relief as soon as he left the hospital. If he had stayed much longer then my knees would have given up and I would have collapsed on the ground in front of him. I was crazy to think that Sherman Gatsby would accept my proposal just because I asked. He is the Gatsby heir and they have a reputation in the town, his father, grandfather, great-grandfather were all Alpha of Alphas. I also heard rumors about Sherman's playboy reputation, like he never had any girl friends but he always had a harem of ladies in my life and in his bed. Why would he want to lose that reputation to tie himself to a nobody girl whose father disowned her! I shook my head and I chuckled at my stupidity. How can I think that it would work? How am I this gullible to think Sherman Gatsby will marry me! Even if it's a fake one! He was not only the ruthless Alpha Billionaire and heir but also a ruthless man too. My wolf was obviously sad and disappointed at my failure but there is nothing I can do. Rejection is not a big deal and I can handle rejection very well. I straightened up with my chin up, I walked towards the staff room, already forgetting about the rejection and my ridiculous offer. The day seemed too long and it felt dragged as I left the operation theater after performing a surgery. My bones feel tried and my head feels heavy. It will be a lie if i said i haven't thought about Sherman's rejection since he left the hospital. It's already 8 pm and i need to eat something. I removed my coat and fished the fridge in the staff room to find something, there was nothing but a sandwich in the corner, i heated that up and ate it and washed it down with some soda. I could sleep right now, right here and not wake up for two days, I was that tired. Ringing of the my phone pulled me from my thoughts and my heart dropped as I saw the caller Id. It's a call from my mother Cardiologist Mr.Zayden. whenever he calls I felt like I am going to die with the way my heart picks up it rhythms. I answered the call as he informed me that my mother was rushed to the emergency room. I didn't even gave him the answer before I was out of the room and running towards Cardiologist's wing. When I reached his office, he was leaving, so I stopped him in the corridor and i have already checked up on my mother who was asleep and booked to machines. My heart ached, seeing her like that and i so desperately wants her to heal and come back with me to home. "Ah! Hailey! How are you?" He asked, he has a warm smile on his face. "I am fine, Mr.Zayden. how was my mother?" I asked, my heart felt like it will come out of my throat. "She's fine for now, it was just a scare attack. She is doing fine now but she doesn't have much time, Hailey, she needs the bypass surgery." I know, my mother doesn't have chance of living if we don't get the surgery done but I am so helpless that I don't know what to do. My tears are not stopping as they fall down my eyes and my heart is so heavy with pain and fear of losing the only parent I have. How can I afford six-thousand dollars, I have no means to get it. There is only one other way to get the money, I have to take the loan from money sharks, they are only the hope to save my mother. I can't lose her. "Give me, one more day, Mr.Zayden. I will arrange the nine thousand dollars by tomorrow." I pleaded with him, as my heart ache, shame and anger at myself intensified. Mr.Zayden nodded his head at me as his eyes shone with pity. I don't need anyone's pity. He left after he patted my head in assurance. I stood there for a minute, lost in my thoughts, not knowing what to do anymore. I started walking towards the exist, too deep in my head that I haven't seen a man standing at the end of the corridor. His tall frame and built surprised and shocked me, i stopped walking as the man moved forward. A gasp left my mouth as Sherman Gatsby stood infront of me, his face same as earlier, so hard to read what's going on in his head. "I accept your deal." My eyebrows shot up in surpise at his words, he has nothing else to say but straight up the shocking news! The way his eyes are carefully searching my face and the way he was standing at corridor seems he has heard the conversation between me and doctor Zayden. I don't know what to say, I am too stunned and shocked to form any words. He was waiting for me to say something but it feels like my tongue has lost its ability to speak. "Didn't you say that you want to marry me?" Sherman frowned, his brows dipped low as he once again studied my face. "I agree to the deal." He said once again. My heart was beating so rapidly it felt like it's going to burst in my chest. My body was trembling with fear and shock. I didn't expect this to happen after his rejection. "Mr.Gatsby!" My tongue seemed to form only his name and nothing else. He gave me the biggest shock of my life. I wiped my tears and slowed down my heart and breathing. There is nothing to fear about. I took a deep breath asked, "Are you serious?" I want to be sure that he was serious and not just playing with my emotions. He took out something from his pocket and put in inside my palm, when his hand touched mine, tingles shoot up my arm and my wolf purred in happiness. "Our deal is to take what we need from eachother. So, I am agreeing to this deal." He said, his voice so non-chalant. "Are you not afraid that i will back out from the wedding once I take the money now?" I asked, with a teasing and a challenging tone. His eyes narrowed and a arrogant smirk appeared on his lips, like he knows i can't and won't able to deceive him. He was the Sherman Gatsby, heir of the Gatsby and no one dares to mess with him. "I dare you, Miss.Synder." He teased, but his eyes held a cold warning in them like he will destroy whoever cross him. I took the card form his outstretched hand and a shiver ran up my spine as the warning settled in my head. Sherman pulled me close to him by wrapping his arm around my waist and said in a playful tone, "I hope we have a very pleasant and beneficial deal, Mrs.Gatsby." His words froze me and i am having hard time accepting his words. He was already accepting me as his wife! He's calling me by his surname. My face heat up as i blushed in his arms and my body heat up at the closeness and his scent hypnotizing my senses. His face moved to the side of my face and he bowed towards my ear as his lips skimmed my ear. He pulled my body into his not leaving any space between us. I tried to move away but his hold on my waist tightened. "Are you shy now?" Sherman nibbled my ear as he teased me in his husky voice. I tremble in his arms as sparks spread through me and my wolf was purring non-stop and she was so giddy. "We.we are in the hospital, Mr.Gatsby." I tried to tell him but he was not listening to any of my protests.
