After Seven Years, My Mate Reclaimed Her Power Chapter 1

I stood rigid among the Sterling Pack council members, my eyes fixed on the holographic projection at the center of our meeting hall. The inter-pack council session had been proceeding normally until a moment ago—Alpha representatives discussing territory disputes, trade agreements, and the upcoming full moon celebrations. Alexander sat at the head of our delegation, his posture commanding and distant as always.

Then it happened.

"Miss me already, my Alpha?" Victoria Kane's sultry voice suddenly invaded the mind-link, broadcasting to every connected pack member across allied territories. "I can still feel your touch from last night..."

My breath caught in my throat. The public mind-link—meant only for official pack business—had been hijacked for the most intimate of intrusions.

"Victoria." Alexander's voice carried no rebuke, only mild amusement. "This is an official council session."

"And yet you opened our private link," she purred, her voice echoing through the minds of dozens of pack leaders. "Shall I remind everyone what you whispered to me when you thought no one could hear?"

My wolf whimpered inside me, clawing at my consciousness as humiliation burned through my veins. Every eye in the room turned toward me—some with pity, others with barely concealed satisfaction at my public disgrace.

"Perhaps we should continue this discussion later," Alexander said smoothly, but made no move to sever the connection.

Victoria's laugh rippled through the link. "Later, when you've dismissed your... chosen mate? I'll be waiting in our usual place."

The emphasis on "chosen mate" rather than "Luna" was deliberate—a reminder to everyone that I held no true position in Alexander's life. My hands trembled as I kept my gaze locked forward, refusing to crumble before the assembled council.

Alpha Blackwood from the Northern Territories cleared his throat. "Perhaps we should take a brief recess before continuing with border discussions."

The projection flickered as connections were temporarily severed. I stood frozen, unable to move even as council members filed out, their whispers trailing behind them like poisoned arrows.

"Sophia." Alexander's voice was ice. "My quarters. Now."

I followed him through the stone corridors of the Sterling Pack house, my wolf alternating between rage and despair. When the heavy oak door closed behind us, I finally found my voice.

"Seven years," I whispered. "Seven years I've endured this, Alexander. But to humiliate me before the entire council—"

"You humiliate yourself by caring so much," he cut me off, loosening his tie. "Victoria is merely an amusement. You are the mother of my child, my chosen—"

"Not your Luna," I finished. "Never your Luna, though the Moon Goddess herself bound us."

His eyes flashed dangerously. "Watch yourself, Sophia."

"No." My wolf surged forward, lending me courage I rarely displayed. "Emma deserves better than a father who parades his mistress before allied packs. I deserve—"

The weight of his Alpha aura crashed down on me like a physical blow. My knees buckled as he closed the distance between us, his power pinning me in place.

"You deserve what I give you," he growled, his face inches from mine. "Remember your place. You are here because I allow it, because my mother favors you, because you bore my heir. Not because you hold any true claim to me."

I struggled to breathe under the pressure of his command. "The pack knows," I managed. "They all know now."

"The pack knows what I tell them," he said coldly. "That you are my chosen mate, not my fated one. That arrangement can always change."

When he finally released his hold, I collapsed against the wall, my wolf howling in anguish within me.

"Clean yourself up," he ordered. "Emma will be returning from her lessons soon."

He left without another glance, the door slamming behind him.

The following days were worse than the confrontation. Pack members averted their eyes when I passed, conversations halting abruptly. During the evening pack run, I kept Emma close to my side, but even she noticed the change.

"Why is everyone whispering, Mama?" she asked, her small hand in mine as we walked the perimeter of the territory.

"Pack business, little one," I murmured, forcing a smile.

Ahead of us, Beta Marcus deliberately stepped aside, creating distance between us as if my presence was contaminating. Other wolves followed his lead, leaving a visible gap around Emma and me.

My wolf snarled inside me, but I kept her contained. For Emma's sake. Always for Emma's sake.

As twilight descended, I caught a familiar scent on the wind—vanilla and jasmine. Victoria. She emerged from the tree line with three pack members flanking her, her smile victorious as she approached Alexander at the head of our formation.

"Alpha," she greeted him, loud enough for all to hear. "I hope I'm not too late to join tonight's run."

Alexander's welcoming smile was like a knife to my heart. "Never too late for you, Victoria."

My daughter's grip tightened on my hand. Even at her young age, she sensed the shifting dynamics, the danger to our precarious position.

As Victoria took her place beside Alexander, her eyes met mine across the clearing—challenging, triumphant. The message was clear: she was no longer content with being the secret. She was coming for everything.
