After My Mate’s Betrayal, I Became the Lycan Princess Chapter 1

Three years. One thousand and ninety-five days of fighting, scavenging, and surviving in the Rogue Lands. Three years of dirt, blood, and the hollow ache where my wolf once lived.

I stumbled forward, my legs trembling with exhaustion. The border of Blood Moon Pack territory was just ahead—a line I'd once crossed willingly, never imagining I'd return as a broken shell of myself.

"Just a little further," I whispered to myself, though there was no one to hear. My wolf remained silent, buried so deep I sometimes wondered if she'd ever return.

The morning mist clung to my skin, mixing with the grime that had become my constant companion. My once-fitted clothes hung loose on my frame, torn and patched with whatever I could find. The scent of home—pine and wild jasmine—grew stronger with each step.

I allowed myself a moment of hope. Maybe Nolan would listen. Maybe he'd remember our bond, the way his eyes once looked at mine. Maybe Victoria's influence hadn't completely poisoned him against me.

Then the mind-link hit.

"*Attention all pack members of Blood Moon and neighboring territories. This is Alpha Nolan speaking.*"

His voice slammed into my consciousness with the force of a physical blow. I froze mid-step, my breath catching painfully in my throat.

"*Today marks a new chapter for our pack. I hereby officially declare my rejection of Sophie Dixon, former member of this pack.*"

The words echoed through my mind like thunder. Each syllable hammered against my chest until I couldn't breathe.

"*The mate bond between us is formally severed by my will and before witnesses. Furthermore, I announce the immediate coronation of Victoria Sterling as my chosen Luna. The ceremony will commence at moonrise. All allied packs are invited to witness our union.*"

Something inside me shattered. The last fragile thread of hope I'd been clinging to snapped, and I collapsed to my knees in the mud. The rejection wasn't new—it had happened three years ago—but this public declaration, this finality, was a fresh wound tearing open scars that had barely begun to heal.

Pain radiated through every cell of my body as the mate bond officially dissolved. I gasped, clutching at my chest, feeling as though my heart was being ripped out.

"Sophie," I heard Nolan's voice soften in the mind-link, as if speaking to me directly. "You were never worthy of being my Luna."

A cruel laugh followed—Victoria's—before the link closed.

I remained on my knees, trembling, tears mixing with mud on my face. I was nothing now. Not even an exile—just a nobody.

A low growl pulled me from my spiral of despair.

I looked up to see five pairs of yellow eyes watching me from the treeline. Rogues—the same ones who'd been tracking me since I left the Rogue Lands. They'd sensed my weakness, my wolflessness.

"Look what we have here," the largest one sneered, his scarred face contorting with hunger. "A rejected mate. No pack. No wolf."

They circled me slowly, their movements predatory and confident. I tried to stand, but my legs wouldn't cooperate.

"Please," I whispered, hating the tremor in my voice. "I've done nothing to you."

"You exist," the lead rogue snarled. "That's enough."

He lunged forward, jaws aimed at my throat.

I closed my eyes, waiting for the killing blow.

It never came.

Instead, the air around me suddenly grew heavy, pressing down with such force that I could barely breathe. The rogues froze mid-motion, their bodies suddenly rigid.

A car door slammed.

"That's enough entertainment for one day," said a voice deeper than midnight, colder than winter.

I forced my eyes open to see a sleek black limousine parked on the forest path. A man stood beside it—tall, broad-shouldered, dressed in an impeccably tailored suit that did nothing to hide his lethal grace.

Kaleb.

The Lycan King.

He didn't shift. He didn't need to.

A wave of pure Alpha energy rolled off him, so powerful it was almost visible—a shimmering aura that crashed into the rogues like a physical force. They whimpered, dropping to their bellies, tails tucked tightly between their legs.

"Run," Kaleb said softly.

They scrambled away, tails between their legs, some urinating in fear as they fled.

Kaleb turned his gaze to me—calculating, assessing. Not a trace of pity in those amber eyes.

"Interesting," he murmured. "A dormant wolf with royal blood."

He extended a hand. "Get up. You're coming with me."

---

The safehouse was sparse but clean—a stark contrast to the filth I'd grown accustomed to.

"Shower," Kaleb ordered, pointing to a door. "There are clothes. Be quick."

Twenty minutes later, I sat at a table across from him, freshly scrubbed but still feeling dirty inside. He pushed a plate of food toward me.

"Eat."

I devoured it without tasting.

"Now," he said, sliding a document across the table. "Let's discuss business."

I looked down. A contract, written in elegant script.

"I know what happened," Kaleb said, leaning back in his chair. "Victoria bought the poison from a black market dealer my people monitor. She framed you."

I stared at him, speechless.

"I need a mate," he continued. "The Council grows restless. You need power and protection." His eyes held mine. "I'm offering you a deal, Sophie Dixon. Be my chosen mate—publicly. In exchange, I'll give you everything you need to destroy Nolan and Victoria."

"Why me?" I whispered.

"Because you have nothing left to lose." He pushed a knife toward me. "Sign in blood. It's more binding that way."

I took the blade, its weight familiar in my hand.

"What's the catch?" I asked.

Kaleb's lips curved into something not quite a smile.

"You'll find out soon enough."

I pressed the blade to my palm and sliced. Blood welled up, dark and thick.

"By my blood," I said, signing my name on the contract, "I accept."
