After My Engagement Ended, I Caught Him with My Sister

He cheated, and I forgave him. All my friends said, after ten years, if it ends now, it would have been a waste. My mom echoed, reminding me they couldn't keep worrying about me forever. So, when he got down on his knees and apologized in front of family and friends, I forgave him. But at night, when he tried to touch me, I couldn’t stop myself and ended up throwing up. Miles's face froze for a moment, then turned pale. Watching me dry heave by the toilet, he reached out to help me up. "Eve..." But the moment he touched me, it felt like an electric jolt, and I jerked back, standing up abruptly. The sudden movement startled us both. The atmosphere was tense, and after a couple of seconds, I turned away to explain.

Chapter 1

He cheated, and I forgave him.

All my friends said, after ten years, if it ends now, it would have been a waste. My mom echoed, reminding me they couldn't keep worrying about me forever.

So, when he got down on his knees and apologized in front of family and friends, I forgave him. But at night, when he tried to touch me, I couldn’t stop myself and ended up throwing up.

Miles's face froze for a moment, then turned pale. Watching me dry heave by the toilet, he reached out to help me up.

"Eve..."

But the moment he touched me, it felt like an electric jolt, and I jerked back, standing up abruptly.

The sudden movement startled us both. The atmosphere was tense, and after a couple of seconds, I turned away to explain.

"It's nothing. You should get some sleep; I'm just feeling a bit off."

I took the tissue from his hand and forced a polite smile. "Thanks."

His face went even paler, his eyes flickering with what seemed like a realization. He started moving as he spoke.

"I'll make you some oatmeal, okay? Your stomach's always been sensitive."

He didn’t really give me a chance to refuse. By the time he finished speaking, he was already on his way to the kitchen.

I was left standing in the bathroom, clutching the tissue. My stomach churned with acid and a sharp ache, but all I felt was a chill.

It was an untimely reminder: today marked thirty-six days since Miles cheated.

And the first day I forgave him.

The sterile scent of antiseptic filled the private hospital room as I stood beside Lucian's bed, my fingers intertwined with his. My heart hammered against my ribs as Dr. Vasquez approached with sterile forceps, ready to remove the final layer of bandages from his eyes. "Are you ready, Mr. Wright?" she asked, her voice steady and professional. Lucian nodded, his jaw tense. "More than ready." I squeezed his hand tighter. "I'm right here with you." The past year had been a blur of medical consultations, experimental treatments, and sleepless nights. I'd drained my secret accounts to fund the world's best ophthalmologists, all while maintaining my humble volunteer facade. After My Husband Chose His First Love Over Me Novel Cover

I gave up the life of a privileged London socialite to live for ten years in a cramped rented apartment with my boyfriend, Arturo. But on our wedding day, he abandoned me to tend to his ailing first love, Luciana. As I stood there, the guests coldly judged and mocked me, while Arturo posted a sugary message online: "Excited for our new family model of 1+1=3." It was accompanied by an ultrasound scan and a cozy photo of him with his first love. Calmly, I liked the post and then asked Arturo for a divorce. But he dropped to his knees before me, eyes red, pleading with me not to leave. The next day, Arturo's call came late. As soon as I answered, a sweet, delicate voice greeted me: "Sorry, Zendaya, I wasn't feeling well yesterday, and I didn't expect Arturo to miss the wedding because he was worried about me." "I told him off for your sake." "And about that Facebook post, I've already asked him to delete it. Don't dwell on it." After a pause, her teasing voice continued: "Arturo, you're all grown up now, yet you still act like a foolish child when things go wrong." "Back in college, you did whatever I asked. After all these years, nothing's changed." "The way you behaved yesterday, how do you think Zendaya would feel?" "Listen up, take some time and reschedule the ceremony. I can handle things here." Her tone was accusatory, yet sugary enough to make my stomach turn.

I stood at the kitchen counter at 5:30 AM, just like every morning for the past eight years. The familiar weight of the spatula in my hand, the soft sizzle of eggs in Gregory's favorite non-stick pan, the careful arrangement of his toast—golden brown, never burnt—on the plate I'd warmed in the oven. These small rituals had once felt like acts of love. Now they felt like muscle memory, performed by a woman I barely recognized. Walker was still asleep upstairs, his room a disaster zone of expensive toys and clothes I'd picked up countless times. Gregory would be down soon, checking his phone while I served his breakfast, maybe grunting a thanks if I was lucky. The morning light filtered through our pristine kitchen windows, illuminating the granite countertops I'd lobbied for during our renovation three years ago. Everything looked perfect. Everything was perfect, wasn't it? That's when I heard Gregory's voice drifting from his study, low and amused.
