After My Alpha Broke Our Bond for an Omega

9.3 / 10.0
At the Silverfang ceremony, three hundred wolves witness a devastating betrayal. Just before marking his promised Luna, Alpha Corbin freezes. Entranced by the cloying distress pheromones of Solana Moreno, a newly arrived Omega in the crowd, he abandons his sacred union at the altar. Left humiliated with a heavy crown, his rejected mate must face the fallout of a broken bond in a modern werewolf world where power, duty, and forbidden desires collide.

After My Alpha Broke Our Bond for an Omega Chapter 1

The bond broke at 10:14 on a Tuesday morning.

I know the exact time because I was staring at the ceremonial clock when Corbin froze mid-step, his hand halfway to my neck where the mark should go. Three hundred wolves packed the Silverfang hall. The Luna circlet sat heavy on my head. My pulse hammered in my throat.

He was looking past me.

I followed his gaze. Third row. Solana Moreno—the transferred Omega who'd been in the pack all of three weeks—stood with tears streaming down her face, trembling like she might collapse. The scent hit me a second later: distress pheromone, sharp and cloying, designed to trigger every protective instinct in an Alpha's skull.

Corbin's hand dropped.

"Corbin?" My voice came out steady. I was proud of that.

He turned back to me. His eyes were wrong. Distant. Already somewhere else.

"I'm sorry," he said quietly.

The hall went silent.

"I, Corbin Davis, Alpha of the Silverfang Pack, reject you, Lauren Gardner, as my mate and Luna."

The words hit like a blade across my sternum. The half-formed mark on my neck—the one he'd started three nights ago in private, the one that was supposed to complete today—turned cold. Not painful. Cold. Like someone had replaced my skin with ice.

Then it went hollow.

The mate bond I'd felt for three years—cedar and rain, the scent that had rewritten my entire world the night he turned eighteen—snapped. I felt it sever. A clean cut. My wolf, dormant for so long I'd almost forgotten what her voice sounded like, screamed inside my skull.

Then she went silent.

My knees buckled. I caught myself on the altar. Three hundred wolves watched. No one moved.

I could hear my own breathing. Short. Shallow. The circlet was still on my head. I reached up with hands that didn't shake—I would not give them that—and lifted it off. The metal was warm from my skin. I set it on the altar between the ceremonial candles.

Corbin said something. I didn't hear it. My ears were ringing.

I turned toward the doors. The crowd parted. Slow. Uncertain. Like they weren't sure what they were watching. I walked. One foot. Then the other. The marble was cold under my bare feet. I'd taken my shoes off for the ceremony. Tradition. The Luna walks to her Alpha barefoot to show trust.

I kept walking.

The double doors stood open. I stepped through them into daylight. The cold hit me—February air, sharp enough to sting. The Silverfang grounds stretched ahead. I crossed the courtyard. Passed the training yard. The healer's wing. The guest cabins where I'd lived for three years because Corbin said it wasn't proper for us to share a room before the ceremony.

Not one wolf followed me.

The border was a mile out. I walked it. My feet went numb somewhere around the halfway mark. The dead mark on my neck throbbed with every step—not pain, just a cold, hollow ache that reminded me something used to be there.

I crossed into Blackveil territory just after noon.

Zoey's guest cabin sat near the eastern border. I found it by instinct. My hand was on the door when it opened.

Zoey took one look at my face and pulled me inside.

I made it three steps into her kitchen before my legs gave out. I didn't cry. The severed bond had left something numb in my chest, like an organ had been removed and the cavity sealed over. I just shook.

Zoey wrapped me in blankets. She didn't ask questions. She moved around the kitchen—opening cabinets, pulling out mugs, filling the kettle—and I sat on the floor and watched her.

My jacket was still on. I reached into the pocket and pulled out my notebook. The operational log I'd kept for three years. Patrol schedules. Healing rotations. Supply inventories. Every detail of running a pack that didn't have a Luna because I didn't have a wolf.

I opened it to a blank page.

I stared at the empty lines.

I closed it.

This was what I had: the notebook, the clothes on my back, and a wolf that wasn't answering anymore.

Zoey set a mug in front of me. Tea. I wrapped my hands around it. The warmth didn't reach the hollow in my chest.

"He rejected you," she said quietly. Not a question.

I nodded.

"In front of everyone."

I nodded again.

Zoey's jaw tightened. She sat down on the floor beside me. We didn't talk. There was nothing to say. The bond was gone. The mark was dead. My wolf was silent.

I drank the tea. It tasted like nothing.

Three days later, Zoey brought the healer.

Nora Whitfield was Blackveil's senior medical wolf—older, precise, with the kind of calm that made you trust her immediately. She examined me in Zoey's guest room. Drew blood. Ran the standard dormant-wolf panel.

She went still when she read the results.

"What?" I asked.

Nora looked up. Her expression was careful. "Your markers don't match a dormant profile."

"What does that mean?"

"It means your wolf isn't absent. She's suppressed. Something powerful is fighting to surface, and something else is blocking it."

I absorbed this. "Can you fix it?"

Nora hesitated. "If your wolf doesn't awaken soon, the suppression may become permanent. You could lose the ability to shift forever."

The words settled into the hollow where the bond used to be.

I reached for my notebook. Opened it. Wrote one word: *deadline*.

The fourth morning, Zoey coaxed me outside.

We walked through the Blackveil grounds. The air was crisp. The pack house sat ahead—larger than Silverfang's, older stone, ivy climbing the walls.

A man stepped onto the porch.

The scent hit me before I registered his face.

Wild jasmine and thunderstorm.

It punched through the numbness in my chest like a fist. Warmth flooded the hollow where the dead bond had left a wound. My wolf—silent for days—stirred. Not awake. Just… aware.

I looked up.

Jameson Hunter stood twenty feet away. Zoey's older brother. The Lycan Prince. His eyes flashed gold for half a second before he locked it down.

I felt the pull. Deep. Old. Nothing like what I'd felt with Corbin.

I looked away.

Jameson's voice, when he spoke, was measured. Controlled. "Lauren. Welcome to Blackveil."

I nodded. Didn't trust my voice.

Zoey glanced between us. Her expression was unreadable.

We walked back toward the cabin. I didn't look back. But I felt his eyes on me the entire way.
