Chapter 6

Chapter 6  My gaze on him squinted hard, "What could you possibly want me to do for you?" I sounded quizzical.  "I'm going to need your yes or no now, Little bird," he said back to me. Not an insight to whatever three things he wanted from me, and rather an influence to the mystery it already was.  Well... just three things. He wouldn't hurt me, or murder me, so there's no need to be wary of the things he needed from me.  I get those things done for him, and he's going to lay me bare, like I've always dreamt about on a soft mattress preferably to fulfill my wildest fantasies. He's going to take me hard and raw, no mercy.  "My answer is yes. I agree, I'll do it." I finally mouthed in break with the silence.  I watched a smirk grew into his face. Was he amused or amazed? That wasn't telling. The man's smug expression is always hard to read.  "Great, then we leave for the city tonight. Your first task is with me, I'll share the details with you whenever we're on the move. For now, you can go pack up." He stood up and faded out of sight seconds after his utterance.  'Leave for the city? To go do what?' I just stared at the absolute silence that filled the room following his absence. No answer to the question popped in my head.  I guess I'd have to be patient enough to find out.  My phone began ringing, an abrupt charge at my solitude. I pull the phone to check who the caller was and it was an unknown caller.  I stared at the call for few seconds, hesitant to pick before I finally slid on the answer button. I took the call silent, waiting on the caller to be the first person to speak.  "Gina?" A familiar voice bloomed, soft and feminine, like I've always known the voice to be.  "Mom?" I had to confirm because this cannot be possible.  "Yes Gina. It's your mother," her voice came through with an affirmation.  Huh? Impossible! It's been ages. Years! So many years that I've stopped counting.  "Are you dying?" I had to ask, because why now of all time did she choose to call. Something must be wrong with her wherever she is.  She doesn't miss me, she doesn't want to see me, I'm sure of that.  "I've missed you my pretty darling. I'm not dying, and I just thought it was time for us to-" "Hold that thought. There's no us, you left without turning back. You erased me from your mind, memory and life probably so don't you dare lie to me on this phone that you missed me because you wouldn't have been gone so long if you did! And even if you were indeed gone, the same way you were able to reach out to me you could've used the same way a long while back to check up on me. I'm not doing this with you, I've accepted that my mother is dead and so be it!"  I proceeded to end the call as well as quickly blocked the number she used to call me so it wouldn't go through if she decides to call me again.  She's dead to me. What does she even expect?  That I'd hear her voice and be all over her? Or forget the trauma she had me going through at a young age. I'll die before I forgive and forget everything she's done.  Gosh she just made me lose my appetite. Now I'm all riled up and disgusted. I shouldn't have picked that call.  My phone started to ring again, I checked the caller to see if it was an unknown number so I'd know better to ignore it this time around. However, it was my best friend in college.  I took the call and instantly placed it on speaker. "Hey Riri, how's summer back at home?" My voice was all lively and the opposite of the negative emotions I basically had myself processing this morning.  "I've missed you so much and it's so boring out here. When was the last time you heard from Jake? Are you guys still not talking?"  That was my boyfriend she's asking about. We had a little fight before I came home for summer break.  He had suggested he came home with me, to meet with my dad and introduce himself as my boyfriend. But I opposed the suggestion and that led to the small fight.  "You're bored and it's Jake you wanna talk about?" I scoffed at her, she's not serious.  "Yeah well it's because I may or may not have accidentally blurted out your home address to him," her tone softened to a guilty voice.  "What did you do, Riri?" When her voice goes this low, it's usually worse than whatever she's telling me.  "It's not my fault. He didn't tell me you guys had a fight at first, he was like he wanted to surprise you, be a good boyfriend and take things next level with you. I didn't mean to tell him the address at all, it was just in the midst of-" "Riri!" I had to cut into her blabber.  "Yes?....."  "What. Did. You. Do?"  "Told Jake your address and now I think he's on his way to surprise you. And before you blame me, I didn't know you guys were fighting until after he made me tell him the address. Also why doesn't he even know your address? He's been your boyfriend for two years already. Do you honestly still think your relationship with him isn't worth it?"  "Fuckkk...!" I cussed out inaudibly. "Riri I'll talk to you later, and don't think I'm gonna forgive this thing you did easily. Don't even think about it!" I told her before I hung up.  I can't have Jake come over here?! Not when it's me alone with Leon- when we've already planned to leave for the city tonight.  Leon doesn't need to meet my boyfriend, just like Jake doesn't need to meet the man I picture whenever I'm in bed with him.  Ding dong. The sound of the doorbell ringing drummed at my heart.  Fuck is he here? Cause who could be pressing that doorbell.  Author's Note: I'm well aware of the switch in ML's name. I've decided to use a different name for him. Frank sounds a bit too old and well dry-toned. So our ML is gonna be referred to as Leon now.

The CEO's Asset: Sold To My Enemy

I spent two years trying to please Xander Yates, thinking he was the man who would help me save my family’s struggling manufacturing business. As a former senior legal counsel, I thought I knew how to handle sharks, but I never expected the man I loved to be the one who would try to skin me alive. Everything shattered at a high-end gala when I felt a chemical fire start in my marrow. Xander had spiked my drink, chasing me through the hotel corridors with a predatory smile, ready to take by force what I wouldn't give him willingly. I barely escaped into an elevator, stealing a key card from a man in a sharp grey suit and collapsing in room 8086. That stranger turned out to be Crockett Blackburn, the "Ice King of Wall Street" and a man my family had spent years avoiding. He didn't save me out of the goodness of his heart; he saved me because he saw a "messy variable" he could turn into a weapon. By morning, Xander was blackmailing me with a video of me drugged, and Crockett was offering me a deal that felt like a deal with the devil. He would save my factory, but only if I gave him 51% controlling interest and became his personal legal counsel. The humiliation was total. Xander called me a junkie and a slut, while Crockett looked at the bruises on my neck with the cold, clinical assessment of a man checking a damaged piece of equipment. When a secret bid was leaked, Crockett didn't hesitate to pin the blame on me, accusing me of working with my ex to drive up the price. I was a pawn in a game between two monsters, one who wanted to destroy my body and another who wanted to own my soul and my family’s legacy. I had lost my apartment, my reputation, and my safety in less than twenty-four hours. "I don't like it when people break my things," Crockett told me as he applied ointment to the marks Xander left on my throat. I realized then that if I wanted to survive, I had to stop being the victim and start being the predator. I signed the contract, moved into Blackburn’s penthouse, and prepared for a scorched-earth war against the Yates family. I don't care if Crockett Blackburn is using me as a leash—as long as he lets me be the one to bite.
