You're Acting, but I'm Not

Nathan tossed his phone aside impatiently. "That's all!"

I was about to hang up when I spotted a notification. So many days had passed, but Nathan still hadn't removed my access rights from the security cameras in his house.

Because of that, I received the audio on my phone as well as the videos from the security cameras. The entwined bodies of Nathan and Cassidy and the suggestive noises they were making seemed to go straight to my head.

"Nathan, my hand hurts. Don't work me too hard."

Nathan bit her ear and said in a low voice, "That won't do. Can you bear seeing me suffer?"

Cassidy giggled. "Since you can't bear to be apart from me, why don't you marry me?"

Nathan's expression turned cold at once. "There are so many women in the world, and they come in all shapes and sizes, vying for attention. I don't mind trying things out once in a while, but I will only marry Liv."

Cassidy pouted, and her eyes filled with tears. "My hand is in this state because of you. Can't you just lie to me?"

Nathan snorted. "I can say whatever you want me to say to please you, but don't mention marriage. You and I are merely having a brief affair. I don't like foolish women."

Cassidy hooked an arm around his neck understandingly and pressed herself close to him. "Let's not talk about things that will spoil the mood. Just let me feel the warmth of your body."

Nathan had just proclaimed his love for me, but in the next second, he lunged at her like a wild animal. The two of them indulged their desires without abandon in the house we had lived in for several years.

The images and sounds pounded relentlessly in my ears, and I felt a ringing in my ears.

My stomach twisted violently, and I felt a warm liquid flow out of the lower half of my body. I felt more fearful than I had ever felt before, and the boundless darkness seemed as if it would drown me.

In the end, I gritted my teeth and called emergency services.

The moment the paramedics burst through the door, my vision went black, and I fainted.

When I woke up again, I was already in the hospital. There was a string of unread messages on my phone.

"Olivia, what do you mean by this? You said you would stop harassing me, and then you went and told my colleagues that you were triggered into having a miscarriage because of me!

"Now they're all gossiping about me. Don't you have any shame?"

Despite what he had done, he would not allow people to talk about it. I retorted, "They're the ones talking about it. Do you think I can control them all?"

He was rendered speechless, and he hung up.

Not long after that, I received a friend request. The profile photo was of a sexy woman, and I immediately guessed that it was Cassidy.

After I accepted the request, she sent me an accusing message instantly: "Olivia, why don't you just go and die?

"Don't you know how much you disgust him? I'm the one he loves! He says I've made him feel more satisfaction than he's ever felt before!

"Don't you know that a good sex life is the foundation for maintaining love? Don't be so shameless and stay far away."

To her insults, I merely answered impassively: "You two are made for each other. Make sure you don't release him into the wild."

After blocking her, I recuperated in the hospital for a few days. Once I had recovered, I bought a ticket and got ready to leave.

The day I left, I realized that it was Nathan's birthday. It was also the day that Nathan had been planning to "turn over a new leaf."

I had ordered a pair of matching watches as a gift. However, when I happened to pass by the mall and went in to get the watches, I spotted Nathan leaving the boutique with Cassidy.

Nathan saw that my eyes were on their wrists, and he tried to explain.

"You can have them."

I turned around and left. He flung Cassidy's hand aside to rush after me, but she grabbed him.

"Nathan, didn't you say that we would have a final meal together?"

It turned out that they were getting ready to say goodbye to each other. I got a cab to the airport and boarded a plane bound for overseas.

After Nathan had sent Cassidy off, he went to my office with his friends. Although they waited for a long time, I did not appear. He went in to look for me, but the security guard chased him out.

"What are you shouting about? Olivia resigned several days ago!"
