When the Alpha Chose His Rogue Over Me Novel Cover

When the Alpha Chose His Rogue Over Me

When I was at the werewolf academy, Alpha Lucas Owens, the reserved heartthrob of the Silver Moon Pack, pursued me for two years until I finally agreed to be his mate. On the day we established our mate bond, I handed him three cherished items and said, “Alpha, these are the most important things in my life. Please never lose them, because if they’re gone, you’ll never find me again.” We were happy, moving hand in hand towards our future as Alpha and Luna of the pack. With my support, his leadership grew stronger, and the pack thrived. But everything changed when his former mate, Aubree Garcia, a rogue werewolf, returned. She tore up our mate bond token, and Lucas, who had never spoken harshly to me before, said, “It’s just a token. We can get another. Why are you making such a fuss? Apologize to Aubree.” He had always trusted me, but suddenly, when Aubree was attacked while wandering rogue territory, he doubted me. “Valerie, I told you, Aubree and I are just friends.

Chapter 1

When I was at the werewolf academy, Alpha Lucas Owens, the reserved heartthrob of the Silver Moon Pack, pursued me for two years until I finally agreed to be his mate. On the day we established our mate bond, I handed him three cherished items and said, “Alpha, these are the most important things in my life. Please never lose them, because if they’re gone, you’ll never find me again.”

We were happy, moving hand in hand towards our future as Alpha and Luna of the pack. Apologize to Aubree.”

He had always trusted me, but suddenly, when Aubree was attacked while wandering rogue territory, he doubted me. “Valerie, I told you, Aubree and I are just friends. Why won’t you understand? You sent someone to attack her. Now, apologize to Aubree.”

The day I saw the token on Aubree, my hope vanished. I was determined to reclaim the three items that meant the world to me. It was only when those three items disappeared that Lucas became frantic.

“Why is something I gave you now with Aubree?” I attempted to keep my emotions in check, striving not to let them erupt.

In a pack-wide announcement, Aubree flaunted the necklace I had painstakingly designed, now prominently displayed around her neck. This necklace was the first I had created all by myself, and it was the piece that had earned me recognition among the packs. It held immense significance for me.

“What are you talking about, Valerie? You’re being unreasonable,” Alpha Lucas snapped in a distant voice over the mind link. “Why are you so hostile towards Aubree now? Just because we’re mated, doesn’t mean everything I own is yours.”

His words cut deeper than any claw. I realized he’d forgotten the significance of the necklace, forgotten it was one of the treasures I’d entrusted to him. There was no point in continuing the conversation.

“My necklace,” I managed to grit out.

Finally, there was a pause on the other end of the link, his aura flickering with unease. “Valerie, it was a mistake on my part. I’ll get it back from Aubree.”

Alpha Lucas’s voice was tinged with panic, but I no longer wanted to listen. I painfully severed the mind link. Reflecting on the past year since Aubree’s return, I suddenly felt it was time to leave. I realized I had been deceiving myself all along. When Lucas and Aubree took pack missions alone, I thought it was purely professional. When he came home late, reeking of rogue territory, I told myself it was pack business. Even when strange marks appeared on his body, I assumed they were from training. But now, I understood I could no longer lie to myself. This mate bond needed to end.

After severing the link, I decided to go to the pack house to retrieve my necklace. However, just as I reached his office, unusual sounds drifted through the door.

“Aubree, why don’t you return the necklace for now? I’ll get you a more suitable one later,” Alpha Lucas’s voice was gentle, and suddenly I realized it had been ages since he’d spoken to me that way.

“Alpha, did you call me over just to take back this necklace? It seems I can never hold a place above Valerie in your heart. Just a single call from her, and you’re retrieving a gift you gave me,” Aubree’s voice lingered.

“That’s not true, Aubree…”

“It’s fine, Alpha. After all, you’re mated to her now, so naturally you have to go along with her demands. I can’t keep you any longer.”

Aubree’s words left the office in silence. Nearly a minute passed before Alpha Lucas spoke again. “Beta, find a way to replicate a necklace identical to the one Aubree is wearing…”

He said this right in front of Aubree, intending to create a duplicate for me. Didn’t he understand how much that necklace meant to me?

I couldn’t listen any longer and pushed the office door open. Alpha Lucas still held the mind link open. When he saw me, a flicker of panic crossed his face. “Luna, have you forgotten to knock before entering the Alpha’s office?”

His words left me speechless.

Luna? Those words reverberated in my mind, repeatedly wounding my soul. The words I had planned to say got stuck in my throat, impossible to utter. Perhaps realizing the inappropriateness of his words, Alpha Lucas finally paused, looking at me.

The previous life, my mate, Carson Marshall, the Gamma of the Silver Moon Pack, had betrayed us all for Armani Gutierrez, a rogue spy. Not only did he share the pack’s defense plans with her, but he also abandoned his post to take her on a private outing. While they were away, rogues armed with the stolen information attacked our territory, breaching our defenses without a fight. Joey, Carson’s younger brother and a loyal Delta, had been gravely injured defending the pack. I sent multiple urgent messages to Carson through the mind link, begging him to return and save us. When he finally arrived, the rogues were driven back, but the damage was done. Armani, meanwhile, met a tragic end—allegedly forced to jump off a cliff during the chaos. Before her death, she left a letter accusing me of orchestrating the attack to eliminate her and claiming that Joey and I had been unfaithful, even suggesting the child I carried was his. Carson told me he didn’t believe her lies. But six months later, on the night of our child’s first moon, he set our home ablaze, his voice cold and filled with rage.

The antiseptic smell of the infirmary couldn't mask his scent. That intoxicating blend of pine and winter frost that made my fingers tremble as I prepared the therapy room. Alpha Alec Harrison's aura filled the space before he even entered—dark, commanding, and laced with something feral that called to the emptiness inside me. "Keira." His voice was rough when he finally appeared in the doorway, his broad shoulders blocking most of the light. "I need you." Those three words sent heat spiraling through me. I kept my expression professional, though my heart hammered against my ribs. "Alpha Harrison, please lie down. We'll begin the aura therapy shortly." He complied, his movements fluid and predatory even in his weakened state. The obsidian claw mark on his forearm—a battle wound from last week's territory dispute—had healed poorly. His wolf was fighting him from within, making him dangerous to everyone except me.

The sacred grove of the Silvermoon Pack was alive with activity as I carefully arranged the ritual herbs for tonight's healing ceremony. My fingers traced the edges of the moonstone altar, feeling the smooth, cool surface beneath my touch. Three years of blindness had heightened my other senses—the earthy scent of sage and wolfsbane filled my nostrils, the distant murmur of pack members preparing for the ritual hummed in my ears. I adjusted my posture, tilting my head slightly as I'd trained myself to do, appearing to listen while actually concealing the fact that I could now see shadows and blurred outlines—the first signs my sight was returning. The full moon tonight would complete what had already begun. "Just a little more vervain on the eastern corner, Luna," Elara, our ancient pack healer, instructed gently. I nodded, reaching for the dried purple flowers. "Like this?" "Perfect," she said, her voice carrying a warmth that few in the pack showed me. "You have a natural instinct for healing rituals." I smiled, though my heart wasn't in it. Tonight's ceremony was my greatest hope—the rare celestial alignment that might finally restore my sight and awaken my dormant wolf.

The three-hour drive from the Northern Alliance meeting should have felt like coming home. Instead, as I pulled through the gates of Silverstone Pack territory, an unsettling quiet pressed against my chest like a physical weight. The familiar sight of our pack house—its stone facade and wraparound porch that had always welcomed me—now felt cold, almost hostile. I parked near the front steps, expecting to see pack members going about their evening routines. Children should have been playing in the yard, adults chatting on porches, the usual warm buzz of pack life that made this place feel alive. Instead, the grounds were eerily empty. The few wolves I did encounter on my way to the house avoided my gaze entirely. Mrs. Henderson, who usually stopped to ask about Sophie's schoolwork, practically fled when she saw me approaching. Young Marcus, one of our patrol guards, actually crossed to the other side of the path rather than offer his customary respectful nod.
