Chapter 3

Consciousness returned to me like waves lapping at the shore—gentle at first, then with growing insistence. My eyelids fluttered open, and I found myself lying in an unfamiliar bed with silk sheets so soft they felt like clouds against my skin. The room around me was bathed in warm amber light from a fireplace crackling in the corner, illuminating rich mahogany furniture and walls adorned with elegant paintings.

This wasn't the Moonstone Pack house. This wasn't my sparse, neglected room.

As my vision cleared, I noticed a tall figure standing by the window, his broad shoulders silhouetted against the morning light filtering through heavy curtains. He turned at the sound of my movement, and I caught my breath. His eyes—a striking silver-blue that seemed to glow with an inner light—fixed on me with an intensity that made me shrink back against the pillows.

"Olivia," he said, his voice deep but surprisingly gentle. "You're finally awake."

Something about him radiated power—an aura so commanding it made Alexander's seem like a pale imitation. Yet there was no cruelty in his gaze, only concern and something else I couldn't quite place. Relief? Recognition?

"Who are you?" I whispered, my voice hoarse. "Where am I?"

He approached slowly, as if afraid of startling me, and sat in a chair beside the bed. "My name is Ethan Harrison. You're in my home, in the Silver Crest territory. I found you in the sacred circle after you performed the rejection ritual."

Memories flooded back—Alexander's final threat, my desperate flight through the dark forest, the searing pain as I severed our bond. My hand instinctively went to my chest, expecting to find the familiar ache, but there was only a dull emptiness where the mate bond had once been.

"Why did you bring me here?" I asked, wariness creeping into my voice. Three years with Alexander had taught me to expect the worst from powerful males.

Ethan's expression softened. "Because I've been looking for you for eighteen years, Emma."

Emma? The name struck something deep within me, like a bell ringing in a forgotten chamber of my heart.

"My name is Olivia," I corrected him, though the words felt strange on my tongue.

"No," he said firmly but gently. "Your name is Emma Harrison. You are my sister."

The world seemed to tilt on its axis. I gripped the sheets to steady myself as he rose and walked to a dresser across the room. He returned with a framed photograph and placed it in my trembling hands.

It showed a family—a stern-faced man with the same silver-blue eyes as Ethan, a beautiful woman with a warm smile, a young boy who was unmistakably a younger version of the man before me, and a small girl with wide, curious eyes. My eyes.

"That's our family," Ethan said quietly. "You were taken from us when you were just four years old. We've been searching for you ever since."

He handed me another document—a DNA test result with highlighted sections showing a sibling match between Ethan Harrison and Olivia Reed.

"This can't be real," I whispered, though deep down, something resonated with terrible truth. "I'm Olivia Reed. I'm the adopted daughter of the Reed Pack Alpha."

"Adopted," Ethan emphasized, his jaw tightening. "Or more accurately, stolen. The Reeds found a lost pup—you—and instead of returning you to your rightful family, they kept you, renamed you, and raised you as their own. All to use your future mate bond for their political gain."

My mind reeled with implications. If what he said was true, then everything I knew about myself was a lie. I wasn't Olivia Reed, the unwanted, wolfless Luna. I was Emma Harrison, daughter of the Silver Crest Alpha.

"I don't have a wolf," I said, the words catching in my throat. "I lost her in the rogue attack when I saved Alexander."

Something flashed in Ethan's eyes—anger, but not directed at me. "Your wolf isn't gone, Emma. She's been suppressed, hidden away so deeply you can't feel her anymore. But she's still there."

Hope—dangerous, painful hope—flickered to life in my chest. "How can you know that?"

"Come with me," he said, extending his hand. "There's someone you need to meet."

Still dazed, I slipped from the bed, noticing I'd been dressed in a soft nightgown. I followed Ethan through a maze of hallways until we reached a hidden alcove tucked away in what appeared to be the oldest part of the house.

There, waiting in the shadows, stood a tiny, ancient woman with skin like weathered parchment and eyes that seemed to hold the wisdom of centuries.

"Emma Harrison," she said, her voice surprisingly strong for one so frail-looking. "I am Elara. I've come to help you find what was taken from you."

Miles away, in the Moonstone Pack territory, Alexander Blackwood collapsed to his knees in his private chambers, a searing pain tearing through his chest. His wolf howled in agony, clawing desperately at his consciousness.

"What's happening?" he gasped, clutching at his heart as sweat beaded on his forehead. The pain had awakened him from a fitful sleep—sleep that had come only after hours of strange, unsettling emptiness.

His wolf's desperate howls echoed in his mind: *Find her. Find her scent.*

"Find who?" Alexander growled, struggling to his feet. But even as he asked, he knew. Olivia. His wolf was searching for Olivia's scent.

Initial relief at her absence—freedom from her constant disappointment—had morphed overnight into something else entirely. Panic. His wolf was panicking.

He staggered to her room, throwing open the door. The bed was neatly made, untouched. On top of it lay a single folded note. His hands trembled as he read her words, the realization of what she had done hitting him like a physical blow.

"MARCUS!" he roared, his Alpha voice shaking the walls.

Within moments, his Beta appeared at the door, eyes alert despite the early hour. "Alpha?"

"Call the council. Now." Alexander's voice was deadly calm, a stark contrast to the storm raging inside him.

Thirty minutes later, the pack council gathered in the meeting hall, tension thick in the air. Alexander paced before them, his movements jerky, uncharacteristic of his usual controlled demeanor.

"Report," he snapped at Marcus.

Marcus Kane stood, his face grave. "It appears Luna Olivia entered the sacred circle last night and performed the rejection ritual herself."

Murmurs rippled through the council. A Luna rejecting her Alpha was unheard of.

"That's impossible," Alexander snarled, though the emptiness in his chest told a different story. "She doesn't even have a wolf."

"Nevertheless," Marcus continued steadily, "the ritual was completed. We found traces of her scent and..." He hesitated. "Blood. Not much, but enough to suggest she collapsed afterward."

"And?" Alexander's voice was dangerously soft.

"And then her trail vanishes. Another wolf was there—powerful, unfamiliar. They took her."

Something primal and possessive surged through Alexander. His wolf, previously howling in distress, now growled with territorial fury.

"I want every warrior mobilized," he ordered, his voice cutting through the room like a blade. "Search every inch of our territory and beyond. Find her."

The council exchanged glances. This wasn't the reaction they'd expected from an Alpha who had threatened rejection countless times.

"Alpha," one elder ventured cautiously, "if she rejected you herself, perhaps it's best to—"

"FIND HER!" Alexander roared, his eyes flashing dangerously as his wolf surged to the surface. "She is MINE to reject, not the other way around!"

But beneath his wounded pride and fury lay something he wasn't ready to acknowledge—a gnawing fear that he had lost something irreplaceable.

Elara's withered hands moved with surprising strength as she prepared the ritual space in a small, circular room deep within the Silver Crest Pack house. Candles flickered in a perfect circle around a stone altar, casting dancing shadows on walls covered in ancient symbols.

"The Reed pack," she said as she worked, her voice like dry leaves rustling, "they didn't just rename you and hide your identity. They fed you herbs—wolfsbane mixed with moonflower and other suppressants—to keep your wolf dormant."

I sat on a cushion, watching her methodical movements. "Why would they do that?"

"Control," Ethan answered from where he stood by the door. "A Lycan-blooded wolf is too powerful to manipulate easily. They needed you weak, compliant."

Lycan-blooded. The term sent a shiver through me. Lycans were rare, powerful werewolves with ancient bloodlines dating back to the first wolves blessed by the Moon Goddess.

"The cleansing will take three nights," Elara explained, turning to me with eyes that seemed to see through to my soul. "Each dawn will bring pain as the herbs are purged from your system. It will feel like fire in your veins."

"I'm not afraid of pain," I said quietly. After three years with Alexander, physical pain seemed almost welcome compared to the constant emotional torture.

Elara's expression softened. "No, child. I can see that you are not."

The first night of the ritual began with Elara's chanting—words in an ancient language that seemed to vibrate in the air around us. She painted symbols on my forehead, my palms, and over my heart with a mixture that smelled of earth and moonlight.

As the night deepened, a strange warmth began to build inside me, starting in my core and radiating outward. By midnight, the warmth had become uncomfortable heat. By the time the first hints of dawn appeared, it was unbearable.

I writhed on the stone altar, every nerve ending aflame. It felt as though my blood had been replaced with molten metal, searing through my veins. I bit my lip until it bled, determined not to scream.

"Let it out," Ethan urged, his hand cool against my burning forehead. "No one will think less of you."

But years of hiding pain, of showing no weakness before Alexander and the Reed pack, had conditioned me too well. I endured in silence as the herbs that had suppressed my wolf for years were burned away by Elara's ancient magic.

When the sun finally crested the horizon, the pain subsided to a dull throb. Exhausted beyond measure, I slipped into unconsciousness, but not before I felt something stir deep within me—a presence I had thought lost forever.

My wolf. Faint, distant, but undeniably there.

Somewhere in the darkness of my mind, I heard a voice—not Ethan's, not Elara's, but one I had almost forgotten.

*Emma,* it whispered. *I've been waiting for you.*
