When My Alpha Chose His Mistress Over My Omega Son
Chapter 2
The Silverfang pack house felt different after Buster died. Not quieter—it had always been quiet around me, the kind of silence that came from people deciding you weren't worth speaking to. But now the silence had weight. It pressed against my skin like something physical.
I moved through the days with a stillness that Ethan's warriors misread entirely. They thought I was broken. Subdued. Finally learning my place.
They were wrong.
I spent my nights alone in my quarters, the door locked, Buster's collar in my pocket where I could feel its weight against my ribs. I pulled out the encrypted hard drives I'd been maintaining since my first year in Silverfang—years of alliance contracts, ritual performance records, every piece of documentation proving that Silverfang's triumphs were generated by my gift, not Ethan's dominance.
I had kept these records out of instinct more than strategy. Some part of me had always known I would need to prove what was mine.
I organized them methodically. Timestamped recordings of alliance negotiations where my aura had turned hostile Alphas into willing partners. Contracts bearing Ethan's signature that referenced capabilities he didn't possess. Testimony from warriors who had felt their strength amplify in my presence during training sessions Ethan took credit for.
Every file was labeled, cross-referenced, backed up in three separate encrypted locations.
I was not preparing for a conversation. I was building a case.
Through the pack bond, I felt Ethan's anticipation building as the Summit approached. He was excited. Confident. He truly believed that presenting Daniella as his chosen mate would cement his status among the continental Alphas. He had no idea what he'd destroyed to get there.
Or maybe he did, and simply didn't care.
I touched Buster's collar and kept working.
The Summit of Alphas in Silver Ridge was held in a massive convention hall that had been built specifically to accommodate the supernatural community. High ceilings, reinforced walls, security checkpoints manned by Lycan Court enforcers in their distinctive black uniforms.
I attended in defiance of Ethan's order. Not as Luna—I wore no formal dress, no ceremonial markers. I dressed in dark, simple clothing and positioned myself at the margins of the main hall where observers and lower-ranking pack members gathered.
No one stopped me. To most wolves present, I was nobody.
From my position near the back, I watched Ethan take the stage. He wore formal Alpha regalia, his posture commanding, his voice carrying easily across the hall. Daniella stood beside him in a white dress that caught the light, her hand resting delicately on his arm.
She looked perfect. Radiant. Every inch the devoted mate.
I read the room's collective aura with the precision that came from years of practice. The assembled Alphas were impressed. Intrigued. Several were already calculating potential alliances. Daniella's performance was flawless—the slight tilt of her head when Ethan spoke, the way she smiled at him with what looked like genuine adoration, the careful deference that suggested strength wrapped in softness.
The lie had been accepted completely.
I cataloged every face. Every alliance handshake. Every detail. My wolf was silent inside me, coiled tight, waiting.
Ethan spoke about Silverfang's recent victories—the treaty with the Cascade Pack, the successful integration of the Northern Border wolves, the enhancement of warrior capabilities that had made Silverfang one of the most formidable packs in the Pacific Northwest.
He did not mention my name once.
Daniella gazed up at him like he was the Moon Goddess's gift to the werewolf world.
I felt nothing. That absence of feeling was clarifying.
The Summit's VIP reception was held in an adjacent ballroom. I didn't enter—observers weren't permitted—but I positioned myself near the service entrance where I could hear fragments of conversation through the partially open door.
The Alphas were drinking, networking, performing the elaborate social dance that pack politics required. I heard Ethan's laugh, loud and confident. Daniella's softer voice responding to some Alpha's compliment.
Then another voice cut through, sharp and mocking.
"Tell me, Ethan, is it true that Silverfang's recent alliance victories were truly your doing?" The speaker's tone carried skepticism. "There's been some interesting rumors circulating. Something about a Luna whose gift was rather more impressive than her Alpha's."
The ballroom went quiet.
I moved closer to the door.
"What did you say?" Ethan's voice had dropped into a register I recognized—the one that preceded violence.
"Just curious," the other Alpha continued. "Marcus mentioned something about your former Luna. Emma, wasn't it? He said she had a rather unique aura. Amplification, I heard. Quite rare."
I heard movement. A chair scraping. Glass shattering.
"You question my mate's honor?" Ethan's voice was a snarl now. "Daniella is my chosen Luna. Everything Silverfang has achieved is through our bond."
"I'm sure it is," the other Alpha said smoothly. "I'm merely repeating what others have—"
The sound of the first punch was unmistakable. Then shouting. The crash of furniture. Multiple wolves snarling.
I stepped back as the service door slammed open and Lycan Court enforcers poured through, moving with the kind of coordinated precision that made resistance pointless.
They emerged minutes later with Ethan between them, his formal jacket torn, blood on his knuckles. Daniella followed, her face pale, her perfect composure finally cracked.
The head enforcer—a massive wolf with silver insignia—spoke quietly into a radio. "Alpha Ethan Cole of Silverfang Pack detained for assault during Summit proceedings. Holding for tribunal review."
Ethan's eyes swept the crowd and landed on me. For a moment, we simply looked at each other.
Then his phone buzzed. He glanced at it, his expression shifting from rage to calculation.
I knew what was coming before he said it.
"I need to contact my Luna," he told the enforcer. "She'll vouch for me. This was a misunderstanding."
My phone vibrated in my pocket. I pulled it out and read the message: *Detained at Summit. Need you to vouch for my release. Come to enforcement holding immediately. This is not a request.*
I looked up. Ethan was watching me from across the hall, his expression carrying absolute certainty that I would comply. That despite everything—despite Buster, despite Daniella, despite years of erasure—I would still perform my role as his Luna and rescue him from the consequences of his own violence.
I touched Buster's collar through my jacket pocket.
Then I typed a single word in response: *No.*
I hit send and watched Ethan's face as he read it.
The certainty drained from his expression, replaced by something I'd never seen there before.
Fear.
I turned and walked away from the Summit hall, my phone already pulling up Camden's contact.
It was time for the next move.
