Chapter 1

Betrothed to My Doctor

My family was on the brink of bankruptcy.

To save us, my dad married me to a rich and powerful family.

Before the wedding day, my fiancé demanded a V-card test.

I confidently agreed to the test.

To my surprise...

The man who examined me was actually the doctor who had repaired my membrane three times by now...

As soon as the door swung open, the smile on my face froze.

The man standing inside was actually my doctor.

There was a peculiar look in his eyes, too.

“I'm Tina Tyler."

After a few seconds of silence, I forced myself to casually introduce myself.

After all, the name I used when getting treated was Cheryl Fisher.

As long as I denied it with all my might, there was a chance I could pull the wool over this fool's eyes.

"Tina Tyler?" Joel Lane asked with a raised eyebrow as he scanned my face.

"Yes, that's me. Can we start?"

I just wanted him to get on with the test.

"If I remember correctly, I told you to avoid doing it for a month or two after the operation. It has only been 20 days since the operation, Cheryl."

Fresh out of the shower, he was dressed in a white bathrobe with a gaping collar that showed off his seductive muscles. His hair was still wet as it framed his sharp features. With piercing eyes, he scrutinized me.

I was panicking hard, but I remained stubborn. "What are you saying? I don't understand."

"Oh? Did someone impersonate you? I'll have to show the footage to your family and ask them about it."

"Don't!" I got flustered and confessed to it.

Never in my life would I have imagined I would marry a man who knows all my pasts.

Was he crazy? Why would a rich family's heir specialize in that kind of operation?

I had been tempted to pursue him due to his looks. However, I had a change of heart when I recalled the exact type of operation he specialized in. It was a little too much for me to bear, so I gave up on the idea.

The first time I had him repaired for me was five years ago.

Back then, he asked me why I wanted to undergo that operation.

With my eyes covered by my sunglasses, I casually replied, "Because I want to."

The long look he gave me was rather weird.

The second time was three years ago. He asked me the same question. "It's needed for your medical records. Please tell me the reason."

His face was icy cold. There was not a single sign of the warmth that people attributed to doctors.

I was not happy with his attitude. Hence, I crossed my legs and replied, "My man did it. He's that strong."

The fingers busy typing away suddenly stopped. The look he gave me was even weirder at that time.

Throughout the whole operation, his eyes were frigid.

The third operation happened just 20 days ago. This time, he did not even need to ask anything. I offered an answer unprompted.

"It's my man again. He loves the feeling of breaking me in. What can I do? He's my man."

He was typing away at the computer as usual. There was a dark look on his face as he spoke to me.

"While it's not a major operation, it's bad for your health to undergo this often."

"It's fine. I'm young and healthy. He's my man. I have no choice but to indulge him."

Joel's expression turned even darker. He remained silent for the rest of the operation.

I never dared to tell him, but I was actually not a loose woman.

However, he would never believe me anyway. Thus, I just lied.

My phone rang. "I need to answer this." I was going to seize this chance to escape.

Joel wrapped an arm around my waist and closed the door with the other.

I took a step backward. When my back hit the door, my heart was in my throat.

"Running away?" The look in his eyes grew sharper.

"N-No. I'm just answering this call." I guiltily showed him my phone.

At the very next moment, I dropped my arm and hid the phone behind my back.

Fitzgerald Woodard was the "stray" I used to torment in prep school, a boy I once paid to kneel in the mud for my amusement. He forced me to eat cold soup off the floor like an animal and gripped my hand over a heavy hammer, forcing me to crush a young guard's bones just to prove I was as much of a monster as he was. His childhood sweetheart, a nurse I once humiliated, stood in the shadows, whispering that I was nothing more than a used-up toy he was already bored of. I lay on the cold marble, shivering from a fever he refused to treat, realizing that the curse he placed on me years ago had finally come true. Every act of cruelty I had ever committed was being repaid with interest, and the man I once looked down on was now the only god I had left to pray to. Suddenly, he threw me out into the freezing night with nothing but rags on my back and a shattered phone. The hospital called with an ultimatum: fifty thousand dollars by noon, or they pull the plug on my father’s life support. Standing barefoot on the biting asphalt, I watched his black SUV disappear into the dark. I have nine hours to save the only person I love, and only one way to get the money. I have to go back and kneel before the devil I created.
