Chapter 2

Maddox stared at me with a grimace. “Fine. This won’t happen again, but I’m warning you. You can only get away with this with me. You’d better keep your hands off everyone else, or or you won’t be using those hands again”

He threw a sour look and walked off.

I couldn't care less about his threat.

After all, I would be leaving this world soon enough.

Who cared about what he thought?

System was deep in contemplation. [Something tells me that he’s mad for the wrong reason.]

I believed his entire face went red. ‘Really? Who cares? He stormed off, and I followed the script to a tee. What’s the problem?’

System fell silent.

The next scene was set at home.

I arrived home to find Zane James sitting in the living room.

He was one of my targets, a childhood friend who was the perfect social match of the original owner.

Zane matched a crisply pressed white shirt and black pants with a neat dark tie. His eyes hid behind a pair of gold-rimmed glasses, and he looked like a refined scoundrel in every sense.

“Willow, Zane is here to see you. Be sure to make him feel at home.

“We’re off to a class at the senior center.”

My parents walked out, arm in arm.

System sounded excited. [Host, time for Act Two. Kick Zane right in the stomach. He won’t know what hit him.]

Zane uttered indifferently, “I heard that you have been spreading rumors about me. Apparently, I have a sensitive stomach and can’t hold it in, huh?”

I let out a wicked smile.

“That’s all me. I can fix that little problem for you now.” I propelled forward with my foot to stomp him straight in the gut.

To my surprise, he caught my foot, and I froze mid-kick.

He narrowed his eyes at me, looking as if he would show me a world of pain.

I turned meek right away. Out of my three childhood friends, Zane was one to hit back.

With a timid and whiny voice, I asked cautiously, “Zane, would you believe me if I said I was going to give you a tummy rub with my foot?”

I nudged my foot against his belly with caution to show where I stood.

Zane made a funny look, his earlobes flushing.

“Willow Fitzgerald, do you know what you’re doing?”

The only thing on my mind was to give Zane a hard kick.

I knew better than to say that out loud, though. I was quick to give him the boot before withdrawing my leg to make a run for it.

Out of the blue, Zane grabbed my leg and pulled it back with a tug.

I staggered forward and fell right into Zane’s arms.

My nose smashed into his solid chest, and tears poured out of my eyes.

He smirked in disbelief. “I can’t believe you kicked me. I guess you want me to come down hard on you.”

I put all my weight onto him while giving him the saddest puppy dog eyes.

“Will you please let me go?”

I could not stand picking on him. He would smack me for real if I pushed my luck.

Thankfully, this part of the script was over. I caved right away, my hand instinctively looking for a hold. Despite my attempts to keep my distance from him, I ended up brushing against something else by accident.

With his body tensing, Zane shoved me away. I fell back on the sofa, seeing stars.

“Uh… Hm… Nothing unusual here. Don’t get any funny ideas! Forget it. Just keep your hands to yourself next time.”

I was confused.

He grabbed his coat exasperatedly on his way out.

Zane stopped and warned me menacingly, “Willow, don’t try me.”
