Turning the Tables on Cheaters
Chapter 4
As I glanced at the crowd, their eyes filled with doubt, Zoey's gaze flickered briefly.
"No matter what, the fact remains that you have these diseases," she said.
With that, she snatched the test results from Laurence's hand, waved them in front of the crowd, then directly shoved them in front of a livestreaming camera.
Those who had been uncertain moments ago shifted their attention entirely to Zoey.
In an instant, the livestream and the room were flooded with voices cursing me.
The barrage of comments on the screen blurred in front of my eyes. Even without reading carefully, I could tell they were filled with harsh insults.
The more they cursed me, the more pleased Zoey seemed to become, her smile growing wider with every word.
"Who gets infected with so many STDs? I don't think I need to explain that. You're trying to shift the blame onto me just to distract everyone, aren't you?"
Zoey perfectly played the role of the victim, her expression one of such distress that both the people in the restaurant and the livestream viewers couldn't help but feel sorry for her.
[Poor girl. She's being targeted by that vile woman just because she's pregnant.]
[Yes, she’s so petty and dirty. I think she deserves to die right away.]
[Yeah! Do we have any experts here? Does anyone know this woman's info?]
Seeing the livestream viewers aggressively asking for my personal details, I knew I had to act fast.
If I didn't do something soon, in less than half an hour, I'd be exposed to the world like in my past life, and my information would be all over the internet.
I pulled out my phone, opened the camera, and pointed it at Zoey.
"You're saying I have diseases, then show the proof. If not, I'll sue you for defamation."
Zoey looked at me as if I were a fool, her smile wide as she waved the test results in the air.
"These results have your name on them. You're not going to claim it's just someone with the same name as you, right?"
I smiled thinly. "The name on the paper is mine, that's true—"
Before I could finish, Zoey interrupted, her voice rising in excitement, "You all heard that! She just admitted it! She's got all these diseases!"
The crowd eagerly nodded, taking several steps back from me.
The person who had been standing next to me filming quickly moved over to Zoey's side, scared to stay near me.
Just like that, it felt as if an invisible line had been drawn between me and everyone else.
Laurence, on the other hand, looked absolutely furious, his eyes burning with hatred.
I took a deep breath and spoke clearly, one word at a time, "The hospital mixed up our samples. These results are not mine."
Zoey scoffed. "How convenient for you. Don't try to make excuses."
Laurence chuckled darkly, joining in with a mocking tone. "Dakota, I know you can't accept this, but it's the consequence of your own actions. You brought this on yourself for fooling around. If you knew how it would end up, why didn't you think twice before?"
I stared coldly at Zoey and Laurence, listening to their cruel comments.
Even if Zoey didn't suffer a miscarriage like she did in my past life, with that test result, the public's scorn could drown me.
But what they didn't know was that the test results truly weren't mine.
"Laurence," I said, my voice unwavering, "when we went for our pre-marital check-up last week, the doctor mixed up our samples. You're the one with all these diseases."
