Transmigrated into a Novel as the Female Lead's Ex-Husband Novel Cover

Transmigrated into a Novel as the Female Lead's Ex-Husband

Luke wakes up trapped in the body of the Female Lead's ex-husband—a disposable side character destined to die within a year. In the original tale, ruthless corporations and ancient bloodline families used him, then threw him away. Everything changes when a mysterious second awakening grants him an ice power fused with Time and Space. Now Luke refuses to accept the death already written for him. His plan is simple: survive, grow stronger, and rewrite the narrative from the shadows. But the plot is already shifting. Ancient powers are awakening, hidden forces are moving, and the world is racing toward destruction. The only one who knows how his story ends is the man who was never meant to live at all.

Chapter 3

「Foreign objects detected within the soul structure. Quantity: 2.」

「Condition for second awakening... met.」

Luke had read about the awakening conditions in the novel. Discovery, mastery, creation, treasures. He'd known them the way you know a fire escape route - abstractly, as a contingency, certain he'd have time to plan before he needed it.

He hadn't planned for this.

The Will's attention gathered around the two fragments - Time, Space - with the slow and total certainty of something that had never been wrong about anything. He felt it the way you feel a held breath: the quality of absolute attention narrowing to a point.

「Classifying... origin treasures.」

Treasures. Not foreign bodies. Not damage to be repaired. The Will had looked at the debris caught in his soul during the crossing between worlds, debris he hadn't known was there until twenty seconds ago, and found them worthy of a name.

「Initiating extraction of origin essence.」

Something shifted at the centre of him - deep, below the level where thought lived - and the Time fragment began to warm. Not physical warmth. The warmth of process: careful, precise, like a surgeon working in a space too small for impatience.

「Time fragment... extracting...」

A beat.

「...10%.」

「Insufficient soul power for deeper extraction. Remaining 90% will be sealed within the soul. Accessible at higher soul power thresholds.」

Ten per cent.

He felt the rest lock away - the bulk of the fragment going dormant, growing heavy and still, like a room whose door has just been shut. What remained was a thread of silver, thin enough to miss if he hadn't been looking, alive with a pulse that matched nothing so much as a clock he'd never heard stop.

「Space fragment... extracting...」

The same measured pull. The same result.

「...10%.」

「Insufficient soul power for deeper extraction. Remaining 90% will be sealed within the soul. Accessible at higher soul power thresholds.」

A dark violet thread remained where the Space fragment had been - barely a whisper, curling at the edges of his awareness. The rest sealed itself behind whatever door the Will used. Out of reach. Waiting.

Luke held the two threads in his mind and thought: sixty-two points. That's the ceiling. That's why.

Two lives' worth of soul power, one awakening's worth of gift, and it still wasn't enough to open what he was carrying more than a crack. But it was there - locked, not lost. The distinction mattered more than he had words for right now.

The voice didn't give him time to settle into it.

「Scanning core soul element.」

A pause.

「Core element identified: Ice.」

Expected. He'd inherited the original's foundation; this was just the Will confirming what was already his.

「Scanning abilities linked to core element.」

This pause was longer.

「Abilities found: 2.」

Luke's thoughts went quiet.

Two.

The original had one ability. Ice Manipulation - the novel had described it in half a paragraph, a throwaway detail about a man who was never meant to matter. One element, one ability. That was how it worked; the novel had said as much. Dual abilities from a single awakening were so rare the Bureau tracked them individually. The bloodline families had catalogued perhaps a dozen cases across their entire recorded history.

「Ability 1: Ice Manipulation.」

He'd known that one was coming.

「Ability 2: Ice Seal.」

The name landed like a step onto ice that turns out not to be solid.

He knew it. Not from the original's memories - from the novel. He'd read it in chapter forty-three, a detail the author had planted early and paid off late: Ice Seal. The ability to permanently inscribe ice runes onto another person's soul, binding their power at its root. Irreversible. Undetectable until activated. The technique the Family had recruited the original to perform. The reason he died.

The original had never known he had it.

He'd lived with it for three years - had gone to sleep at night, had eaten meals, had walked to work in the cold that felt like his own skin - and the whole time this thing had been sitting in him like a key none of them knew existed. Dormant. Invisible. His.

And yet the Family had found him.

That was the part Luke couldn't shake loose. If the ability had never activated, never manifested, never so much as flickered - if even the original himself had had no sense of it - then how had they known to look? What instrument had they used? What did they understand about how power hid inside people that the original, that the Bureau, that apparently everyone else had missed entirely?

He didn't have an answer. The question sat in his chest like a splinter he couldn't reach.

The voice continued.

「Core element: Ice. Abilities: Ice Manipulation, Ice Seal.」

「Foreign treasure essences available: Time (10%), Space (10%).」

「Compatibility assessment... complete.」

「Ice is designated as the base element.」

「Time and Space essences will be integrated into existing abilities as evolutionary catalysts.」

「Initiating second awakening.」

「Begin.」

The pain didn't build. It arrived.

It started in his sternum and radiated outward through bone and nerve simultaneously, as if every system in his body had received the same signal at the same moment and responded as one. His muscles locked. His knees hit the floor before he chose to kneel, and his hands found the frozen surface by the same absence of choice. His mouth opened. Nothing came out.

Inside him, the ice - that vast, deep accumulation he'd barely touched during the first test, the frozen ocean he'd felt waiting beneath the small frost he'd made with his fingers - shattered.

Not destroyed. Broken apart at the molecular level, every crystal separating from every other, a million pieces suspended in the space where something whole had been. And into those gaps the two threads came - silver and dark violet, Time and Space - rushing through the fractured ice like water finding a new course. Filling. Bonding. Changing the nature of what they touched.

Behind his squeezed-shut eyes, he could see it the way you see something in a high fever: too clear, too detailed, lit from no particular direction. Ice - blue-white, vast, built from three years of power accumulating in a body that hadn't known what it was building - but threaded now with silver lines that wound through the crystal structure like rivers seen from altitude, and violet geometries that bent the edges of the ice into angles that had no names in Euclidean space.

Not three powers layered over each other.

One power with three axes.

The frost that erupted from his skin was the first sign that the outside world was catching up to what was happening inside. But it moved wrong. A water droplet falling from a crack in the ceiling froze in the air - not from cold but from stillness, from time pooling around it, and it hung there, a perfect sphere caught between one moment and the next. The frost spreading across the floor didn't radiate outward in a flat plane. It bent. It curved. Ice formed on the left wall and connected to ice on the right wall without crossing the space between, the distance simply absent, the geometry of the room quietly revised around him.

He saw none of it. His fingernails were digging into frozen stone, and he was holding onto the sound of his own breathing as the only fixed point.

Thirty seconds. A minute. Two.

The silver and violet threads worked deeper, tighter, until there was no longer any seam between cold and time or boundary between frost and space - just the one thing they'd become, dense and settled and entirely his.

Then the pain stopped.

Not gradually. The hand released.

The Will withdrew - receding from him the way the tide recedes from something it has finished with - and the absolute weight of its attention lifted all at once, leaving him in a silence so complete he could hear the water dripping from the ceiling. The frozen droplets, suspended mid-fall, began to move again, one by one.

「Second awakening complete.」

「Current soul power... 92.」

Ninety-two.

He was still on his knees, hands flat against the floor, breathing through his teeth. The number arrived in his awareness the way sensation returns to a limb that's been asleep - in stages, the full shape of it clarifying as he came back to himself.

Thirty points from the second awakening alone. More than triple what the first had granted.

He understood why, in the abstract: two abilities restructured, two external essences integrated. The soul power cost of what had just happened to him was enormous. The reward was commensurate.

He was still processing the arithmetic when the voice returned.

「New ability unlocked.」

「Freeze (Time) - Upon activation, the user can freeze any moving object, person, or active ability within lock-on range. Targets are suspended in temporal stasis and will resume upon release. Cost: 10 soul power points per second of activation.」

Ten per second. At ninety-two total, he had roughly nine seconds - less, accounting for anything he'd already spent. Nine seconds of absolute temporal halt, and then he'd be empty.

He thought about what one second meant. A bullet crossing a room. A fist completing its arc. An ability that had already left someone's palm and hadn't found him yet.

Nine seconds wasn't long. Against the right problem, it was everything.

「Passive ability unlocked.」

「Frost Phantom Substitute (Space) - Upon receiving a fatal strike, the user will instantly displace up to 500 metres to a marked location. A frozen phantom clone will remain at the original position, perfectly replicating the user's state at the moment of impact. The clone will persist for 24 hours before dissolving. Activation limit: 1 time per day.」

He read it twice.

A fatal strike. Upon receiving - not upon anticipating, not upon choosing. The moment something killed him, the ability would move him somewhere he'd already decided to be, and leave a perfect frozen copy behind to take the consequence.

He had no words for what it felt like to read that. He sat with it instead, on his knees on a frozen floor in a cold apartment, with the silver and violet threads settled and quiet inside him, and he turned the ability over in his mind until he understood its shape.

The Will's presence was gone. The voice had gone silent. The room was his again - ordinary, small, the snow still piled on the windowsill, the melt still dripping from the ceiling in slow, irregular beats.

Outside, the city continued as it had. No one knew. Nothing had announced itself.

He was still the same person sitting in the same room.

He just wasn't the same as he'd been an hour ago, and there was no version of tonight where he could go back to not knowing what he was carrying.
