Three Years Dead, Finally Remembered
Chapter 4
Mom let out a cold laugh.
"She's not dead. She's still alive; she just refuses to save her sister."
The foreign doctor immediately pulled up his phone, showing the hospital records from three years ago that documented my death during emergency treatment.
Mom stared at the screen, then studied the doctor's face intently. Her expression darkened.
"I've never seen you before! You're one of Cassidy's actors, aren't you? Looks like this death record is fake too! I can't believe Cassidy would go through all this trouble just to get out of saving her sister."
Before she could react further, the masked man called again via video.
"Madam, this is your last chance. If you don't pay one million, I'll dump your daughter's remaining ashes!"
Mom lost control, her fury explosive.
"Dump it! Dump it now! I will not pay a cent!"
The man poured the ashes into the sewer.
"You'll regret this!" he sneered.
Tammy wailed, her voice ragged with grief. "Please! Don't!"
She crawled painfully across the floor, trying to scoop my ashes with her hands, but the water had already carried them away.
Before the call ended, Tammy fainted from crying.
My heart twisted in pain, as if clenched in a vise.
'Tammy… you've done more than enough for me already. If I had died faster, you wouldn't have carried me into traffic and had your legs ruined. Yet, even in my death, you still suffer for me.'
After leaving the hospital and returning home, I saw something I had never seen on Mom's face before: unease.
Perhaps she was recalling the video call. After hesitating, she called her assistant.
"Go to the funeral home immediately. Have them issue a certificate proving that Cassidy was never cremated. I want to expose her tricks."
No sooner had she hung up than Rachel's call came in.
"Mom… just now, Cassidy and Tammy came to the hospital to scare me. They said if they didn't get a million, I'd just… be left to die."
Immediately afterward, Rachel sent a video showing the backs of Tammy and me.
I glanced at the screen and immediately noticed the AI synthesis.
Mom, however, couldn't see it. Instead, she slammed her hands on the table, furious.
"I almost softened for them… almost fell right into their trap! Since Cassidy claims she's dead, then I'll pretend I never had this daughter!"
Mom immediately posted on X, declaring that she no longer recognized me as her daughter and that I had no connection to the Porter family.
The masked man simultaneously released a recording of their conversation, accusing Mom of being heartless—even destroying her own daughter's ashes.
The incident exploded on social media, with opinions divided sharply.
Watching the public frenzy unfold, Mom spoke coldly, "Even if Cassidy admits her mistakes, I'll still pretend I never gave birth to her!"
Then her phone rang again. Through the trembling line of the assistant's voice came the words, "Ma… Madam… Miss Cassidy was cremated three years ago."
