Chapter 4

Officer King met our firm gazes and frowned even deeper. He had not expected us to be this stubborn.

“All three of you have alibis. The surveillance camera and the witnesses can confirm that. Murder is not a joke!” Officer King warned. “You’re seniors; you should know what to do and what not to do. The police station isn’t a place for jokes, and a murder isn’t meant for you to lie about!”

After saying that, he slammed the three statements forcefully against the table before us. However, none of us budged. We insisted that we were the murderers. Officer King and the counselor had no other choice.

However, just when he was about to ask the counselor to bring us back to the university, I took out an item. It was a small shard of glass.

“This is the cyanide bottle I used. I smashed it and flushed it down the toilet. This is the remaining piece, and Mandy’s blood is on it. Do you want to run it in the lab?”

My words shocked both the counselor and Officer King. The latter ended up coming back to his senses; he immediately took the glass piece to the lab.

At the same time, Anna showed her a cut that she had on her left thumb. “Mandy bit this part off my thumb. You can go and have a look in her mouth.”

Fiona also said, “The weapon that I used to kill Mandy is buried under the bush in front of our dorm. Go and get it.”

An hour later, the three of us were detained as suspects again.

Somehow, the news of our detention leaked to Mandy’s parents. They came over to the police station to riot. They spat and cursed us with vicious words. It was as if they were hoping to skin us alive.

“Murderers! Witches! Why didn’t you die?! I’ll never let you go! You have to pay with your lives!”

Mandy’s mother rushed forward to hit us, but the police officers stopped her. They were crying and yelling in the police station. In the end, Mandy’s mother fainted and was sent to the hospital. Before the counselor left the police station, she looked at us in extreme disappointment.

The news blew up online. Officer King was under immense pressure. He had no choice but to relook at the case, and he kept comparing our statements, alibis, and the autopsy report.

His assistant could not help but comment, “Officer, the victim’s cause of death is exactly like how they described. Is it possible that the three of them conspired?”

Officer King did not even look up. “It’s not impossible, but it doesn’t seem like they did it together from the way they admitted it. Usually, a group of murder suspects try to keep their stories identical to prevent any loopholes. Their statements may be similar, but the three of them are trying to take the blame alone. I feel like they’re trying to protect someone…”

Officer King paused before suddenly looking up. He glanced at the three perfect alibis and then he asked the three of us to enter the same interrogation room.

He sent us a mysterious look and said confidently, “We already know who the true murderer is!”
