Chapter 6

ALESSIA

I turned to face Liam. He slowly got out of bed, carefully adjusting the maids so they wouldn’t stumble, and they instinctively clung to each other. Watching him care for them made my chest tighten with envy.

I wished he could treat me with the same gentleness, like he used to back when our fathers were still alive.

He started walking towards me, his cock juggling—Gosh, why on earth is he not putting on briefs? He's shameless! Of course, he is, because why would he feel comfortable living the kind of life he's living?

He stopped beside me. The smell coming from him almost made me puke—a mix of sex and sweat and some strange fragrance.

"Where the hell are you coming from?" he snapped.

I swallowed hard, steadying my voice. "Hospital."

He chuckled. “You’re lying, Alessia. Everyone in the hospital knows you’re a Luna—and my wife. That’s why, unlike the other doctors, your shift ends during the day, not at night.”

He paused, then stepped closer. “Are you seeing another man?”

My breath hitched, and I quickly shook my head. “Liam, you know me, and yet you question my character… I’m not like you,” I said softly, my voice breaking no matter how hard I tried to stay firm.

His eyes trailed over me from head to toe, and he waved a dismissive hand. I sighed and left the room.

The soft morning light hit my face, and I slowly opened my eyes, only to see maids cleaning the house. I had slept on the couch last night. I swallowed hard, stretching lazily as I picked up my phone to check the time—it was 7:30 a.m.

My eyes widened in shock as I jumped off the couch.

Damn it. Those monsters asked me to be there before 8 a.m.

I rushed toward the bedroom and pushed the door open. The three maids were already dressed, attending to Liam—one adjusting his tie, another holding his suit jacket, and the third fastening his wristwatch.

I cleared my throat. “Good morning, Liam.”

His eyes settled on me with disgust before he looked away, ignoring me completely. I nodded, not surprised by his attitude. I would just act more respectful… maybe then I could avoid getting another scar.

I stepped into the bathroom and began brushing my teeth when my phone buzzed with a message notification. I wiped my hands and opened it.

"Little doctor, I hope you’re on your way. It’s almost 8 a.m. "

My hand tightened in frustration, and I quickly typed back.

"I’m just waking up… you’ll see me when I get there."

Another message popped up, but I didn’t bother checking. I hurried through taking a shower and stepped out.

“What did you just fucking say? Those damn triplets withdrew their investments. Fuck! ”Liam yelled, rubbing the back of his head violently.

My breath caught. Was he talking about Axel and his brothers?

“I told the guards to keep an eye on them. If there’s any suspicious move, they should report to me,” he added.

This time, we were the only ones in the room. I applied lotion while watching him, still not understanding what the problem was.

I slipped into a black, fitted corporate gown.

“The most annoying part is that bastard Asher. After letting them dance for him for a damn hour, he still shot them dead,” Liam said, his voice thick with frustration.

My entire body froze, so he was talking about them. I took a step closer.

“I don’t care how you do it—just make them invest again. Tell them I’ll take 40% and give them 60%,” Liam snapped before ending the call.

Frustration and anger burned across his face.

“Liam—”

“What the fuck do you want?” he growled, panting, his wolf reflecting in his eyes.

My chest tightened. Since it was about the pack’s company, and as Luna, it was my duty to lend a helping hand.

“What’s wrong, Liam? Tell me—I could help,” I said softly, taking another step closer.

He let out a mocking laugh. “Help? You help?” he said, shaking his head. “You can’t even satisfy me—something an ordinary maid can do—and you think you can help with this? Do you even know the kind of people those damn triplets are? You can’t even stand before them. They probably wouldn’t look at you twice before pulling a trigger on your fucking head, and you think you can help?”

My grip tightened around my phone as I stared at him in disbelief. He thought, I can't stand before them. Of course I can—but I can't tell him I was treating them. That was a secret, and my life depends on it.

“Liam, just trust me. I would plead with them to reinvest—”

Before I could finish, a sharp slap landed on my cheek.

Everything blurred. A ringing sound filled my ears.

“Who the fuck do you think you are?” he snapped. “You think you’re attractive enough to seduce them? Or that you’re special enough to stand before them? Fuck, Alessia, you disgust me.”

He turned and left.

Warm tears slipped down my cheeks as I sat on the bed, crying quietly.

I didn’t even know why I was crying—whether it was the insult, which I was used to, or my helplessness or the sting of the slap. I really didn’t know.

Another message popped up. I quickly wiped my tears as reality hit me—I still had another problem waiting. If Liam could hit me, then the triplets could do worse… or even kill me if I disrespected them.

I grabbed my bag and headed out, driving off immediately.

Just as I feared, Liam’s ring had cut my cheek. I only noticed when I glanced at the rearview mirror; I would have used a foundation on it. Gosh, I hate scars.

I arrived at the hotel, covering my cheek with a handkerchief. I went straight to the room where I had met them the night before. I already had the key card, so I scanned it and pushed the door open.

My breath hitched as I looked around. The room seemed even more beautiful than last night—maybe because I hadn’t really noticed it last night.

I walked into the sitting room. They were all there, busy with their own things.

Azriel sat on the couch, sipping green tea while scrolling through his phone. Axel was standing, his attention fixed on a file, and Asher leaned back on the single sofa with headphones on, eyes closed, his fingers tapping to the rhythm.

Wait… didn’t they notice me? None of them even looked up.

I swallowed hard and cleared my throat.
