Chapter 6

The city's relentless hum had faded into the quiet darkness of the night. Ariana flicked off her bedroom light, the room plunging into peaceful darkness. Her eyelids fluttered shut, but her mind refused to rest. The day's events replayed in her mind-the cryptic messages, the fragments of photographs and documents, the eerie feeling that her past was slowly rising from the shadows. She had spent the entire day scrutinizing everything, trying to piece together what little she had learned about her origins, but nothing made sense yet.

Her thoughts kept circling around Zayn. His mysterious background, his lies about his family, the secrets he hinted at but never fully revealed. She knew that Zayn was not what he showed himself as. All her life, she had grown up without her parents, only knowing her paternal grandmother as her sole family. Now, everything was changing, and she felt unmoored.

She turned onto her side, pulling the blanket tighter around her. Sleep was elusive, her mind racing with questions. Who was her mother? Why had Zayn lied about his background? What secrets was everyone hiding? Her heart pounded with a mixture of anxiety and curiosity. She desperately wanted answers, but the journey ahead seemed fraught with danger.

Outside her window, the city was silent, wrapped in its own mysteries. The distant sounds of cars and distant conversations faded into the night. Finally, exhaustion overcame her, and her breathing slowed. Her eyelids grew heavy, and she drifted into a restless sleep, her thoughts drifting into the depths of her subconscious.

---

The next morning dawned bright and warm. Sunlight streamed through her window, casting a golden glow across her room. Ariana slowly stirred, feeling the weight of the past days settle on her shoulders. Today was important. Zayn had arranged for someone special-his cousin, Adeel-to come by. Ariana had never met him before, but Zayn had spoken highly of him, describing him as dependable, sharp, and trustworthy.

She hurried to get ready, her mind filled with a mixture of anticipation and nerves. As she opened the door, her heart fluttered unexpectedly. Standing there was a tall man with a calm, confident demeanor. His dark eyes were observant, and a friendly smile played on his lips.

"Hey," he said, extending his hand. "You must be Ariana. Zayn told me a lot about you."

"Hi," Ariana replied, hesitating for a moment before shaking his hand. "Nice to meet you."

Rachel appeared behind her, offering a warm smile. "Hi, I'm Rachel. It's good to finally meet you."

Adeel nodded politely. "Zayn speaks highly of both of you. I've brought some things that might help us understand your past better."

He reached into his coat pocket and pulled out a small bag. Inside were fragments of old photographs, torn letters, and what looked like pieces of a diary-scraps of someone's life, scattered and incomplete.

"Zayn told me about your curiosity," Adeel said softly, spreading the fragments on Ariana's coffee table. "He mentioned you've always wondered about your biological parents, about who you are really connected to."

Ariana's heart thumped. She had always known she was adopted, but her knowledge was limited. Her only family had been her paternal grandmother, who had raised her with love but never shared details about her origins.

Adeel carefully picked up a torn photograph-a woman's face, faint but recognizable. "We've uncovered some pieces that might lead us to your birth mother. It's not much yet, but it's a start."

Rachel leaned closer, her eyes bright with curiosity. "What kind of fragments are these?"

"Old documents, letters, photographs," Adeel explained. "They suggest there's more to your story than you've been told. We're still piecing it together, but I believe we're getting close."

Ariana looked at the fragments, her fingers trembling slightly. Hope flickered within her, mingling with the fear of what she might find. Could this be the key to her true past?

Meanwhile, Rachel reached into her bag again and pulled out her phone. Her expression was serious. "There's something else," she said. "I just got to know that Zayn is from the Knights family, one of the most powerful and wealthy families around. But he lied to you about his background-he said he was from a middle-class family, probably trying to protect you."

Ariana's eyes widened. "Why would he lie?"

Rachel hesitated. "Because the Knights family is known for their influence. They're involved in things most people don't even know about. If Zayn's real background was known, it could put him-and you-at risk."

The revelation hit her like a blow. All the assumptions she'd made about Zayn, her own life, and her future suddenly felt fragile. She looked at the fragments on the table and then at Rachel's serious face. How much had she been kept in the dark?

Adeel nodded, his expression solemn. "It's complicated, but these pieces might finally lead us to your birth mother. Zayn's family history can be dangerous, but it's also a part of your story."

Just then, the phone in Ariana's pocket vibrated. She pulled it out and saw a message from Zayn: *"Check in when you can. Things are moving faster than expected."*

She looked at Rachel and Adeel. "Zayn's involved in all this more than I realized," she murmured. "He's trying to help, but I can't shake the feeling that he's hiding things."

Rachel reached out and gently squeezed her hand. "He's from a powerful family, Ariana. That kind of influence comes with secrets-and dangers. But I believe Zayn cares about you. We just need to be careful."

Ariana nodded, feeling both overwhelmed and hopeful. For the first time, she sensed that her past was within reach-her real family, her identity, her purpose. The pieces of her puzzle were slowly coming together.

Later that evening, they gathered again in her living room. Adeel laid out the fragments, explaining what they knew so far. "These pieces point to someone-your biological mother. We're not sure who she is yet, but I believe we're close."

Rachel looked at her, her expression serious but supportive. "And Zayn's family might be connected to her. That's why he's so secretive."

Ariana stared at the fragments, her heart pounding. The life she'd known was about to change forever.

Just then, her phone buzzed again. She saw a message from Zayn: *"Be ready. We're close."*

She looked at Rachel and Adeel, feeling a renewed sense of purpose. "I want to find her," she whispered. "My mother. I need to know the truth."
