Chapter 2

As they walked to the coffee shop, Ariana couldn't shake off the feeling that they were being watched. She glanced around, but she didn't see anyone suspicious. When they arrived at the coffee shop, Rachel started asking the barista if she knew anything about the stranger. The barista thought for a moment before shaking her head. "Sorry, I don't recognize the description. But I can ask my coworkers if they've seen him around." Ariana and Rachel waited anxiously as the barista asked her coworkers. After a few minutes, the barista returned with a curious expression. "One of my coworkers thinks she might have seen him around," she said. "She said he's been coming in here for a few weeks, but he's always alone and doesn't talk to anyone." Ariana's eyes widened. "That's him. Do you know his name?" The barista shook her head. "Sorry, we don't know his name. But my coworker said she's seen him talking to someone else once or twice. She didn't get a good look at the person, but she thinks it might have been a woman with long, dark hair." Ariana's mind was racing. Who was the woman, and what did she have to do with the stranger? She thanked the barista and turned to Rachel. "What do you think?" she asked. Rachel's eyes were narrowed. "I think we're getting close to something. Let's keep digging and see what we can find out." As they left the coffee shop, Ariana felt a sense of determination. She was going to get to the bottom of this mystery, no matter what it took. Just then, Ariana's phone rang again. She hesitated for a moment before answering, wondering if it might be connected to the mysterious message. "Hello?" she said, trying to keep her voice steady. But this time, there was a voice on the other end of the line. "Ariana, we need to talk," the voice said. Ariana's heart skipped a beat. "Who is this?" The voice didn't answer. Instead, it said, "Meet me at the park at midnight. Come alone." Ariana felt a shiver run down her spine. Who was on the other end of the line, and what did they want from her? She looked at Rachel, who was watching her with concern. "What do I do?" Ariana mouthed. Rachel's expression was determined. "We're going to figure this out together," she said. "Let's go to the park at midnight and see what's going on." Ariana nodded, feeling a sense of trepidation. What would happen at midnight? And who was waiting for her in the park? As the clock struck midnight, Ariana and Rachel made their way to the park. The moon was full, casting an eerie glow over the deserted streets. Ariana felt a sense of unease as they walked, her heart pounding in her chest. When they arrived at the park, Ariana saw a figure standing in the shadows. It was the stranger from earlier that day. He was dressed in a black jacket and jeans, and his eyes seemed to gleam in the moonlight. "You're here," he said, his voice low and smooth. "I didn't think you'd come alone." Ariana stood her ground, despite the fear that was rising up inside her. "I'm not alone," she said, gesturing to Rachel. "My friend is with me." The stranger's eyes flicked to Rachel, and for a moment, Ariana thought she saw a glimmer of surprise. But then his expression smoothed out, and he nodded. "Very well," he said. "I suppose it doesn't matter. My name is Zayn, by the way." Ariana's eyes narrowed. "What do you want from me, Zayn?" Zayn smiled, a small, enigmatic smile. "I want to show you something," he said. "Something that will change everything." Ariana felt a shiver run down her spine. What did he mean? And what could he possibly show her that would change everything? But Zayn just turned and started walking, gesturing for Ariana and Rachel to follow him. Ariana hesitated for a moment, unsure of what to do. But Rachel's encouraging nod gave her the courage to follow Zayn. As they walked, Ariana couldn't help but notice the way Zayn moved with a quiet confidence, his eyes scanning the surroundings as if he was always on the lookout for something. She felt a sense of unease growing inside her, but she pushed it aside, determined to see this through. After a few minutes of walking, Zayn stopped in front of a large, old building. It looked abandoned, but Zayn seemed to know exactly where he was going. He led them inside, and Ariana felt a sense of trepidation as she looked around at the dark, dusty corridors. "What is this place?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper. Zayn didn't answer. Instead, he led them deeper into the building, stopping in front of a door that looked like it hadn't been opened in years. "This is it," he said, his voice low and mysterious. "This is what I wanted to show you." Ariana's heart was pounding as she pushed open the door. Inside, she saw a room filled with computers and surveillance equipment. It looked like some kind of monitoring station, but Ariana had no idea what it was for. "What is this?" she asked, her voice full of wonder. Zayn smiled again, his eyes glinting with amusement. "This is where the truth begins," he said. "Are you ready to see it?" Ariana's heart skipped a beat. What did he mean? And what truth was he talking about? She looked at Rachel, who seemed just as confused as she was. But before she could ask any more questions, Zayn started typing on one of the computers. The screen flickered to life, showing a video feed of a person Ariana didn't recognize. "Who is that?" Ariana asked, her voice barely above a whisper. Zayn's expression was serious. "That's someone from your past," he said. "Someone you thought you knew." Ariana's mind was racing as she stared at the video feed. Who was the person on the screen? And what did they have to do with her? She felt a sense of unease growing inside her, but she was determined to see this through. As the video continued to play, Ariana's eyes widened in shock. She couldn't believe what she was seeing. It was something that would change everything, just like Zayn had said. But what exactly was it? And how would it affect her life? Ariana's questions would have to wait, because Zayn was just getting started.

Then he chartered a private jet and rushed me to the most elite private hospital for emergency treatment. Inside the thermal recovery chamber, a faint thread of consciousness returned to me. Through the haze, I heard Julian arguing with the doctor. "Weren't we supposed to amputate just to save her life? Why are you draining all of her hematopoietic stem cells too? Mr. Crowe, you're personally destroying her last chance of survival!" Julian's voice, usually so controlled, carried a chilling cruelty. "Letting her live safely and comfortably until today is already the greatest mercy I've ever shown her. The only woman who will grow old with me is Serena Vale. And the only thing that can save Serena is her life. She owes Serena that much, and now it's time to repay it." So the promise to live and die together had only been my own foolish fantasy.
