The Spy Who Stole My Heart Chapter 1

"You smell like strawberry" the man's low and hoarse voice sounded above Ava's head. She blushed shamelessly while wrapping her hands around his neck enjoying the heated moments.

After a passionate night, the morning light shone into the room, waking her up. Quickly pushing the hands away below her waists, and ran towards the bathroom to put on some clothes then dashed out.

She got drunk last night while celebrating her master's degree. Angel, her best friend, convinced her of having fun, probably a one-night stand.

"You're 26, Ava, and still a Virgin. Tonight's your night to change that!" Angel grinned, pushing her towards the crowded bar.

While she scanned  the room, Ava's eyes locked with a stunning stranger in a mask, his eyes blue and he had a strong jawline, she quickly approached him with a drunken smile. And that's how she ended up in his bed!

Ava raked her fingers through her tangled hair, frustrated.

After some time her phone began to ring, displaying a familiar number she hadn't spoken to in three years, her father. She answered, her voice barely a whisper. "Dad?"

"It's time to return home," he said, his voice devoid of emotions.

"Why?" She asked, her heart pounding.

Before she could get a reply the caller hung up leaving her more curious. She immediately booked a one way ticket back to her hometown, leaving behind the life she had built in another country as the plane took off. She had a feeling of uneasiness.

When she finally arrived in the city, she hailed a taxi to her home, although as she got closer to her destination, the familiar sights brought back  memories, memories she tried to  forget for so many years.

Ava was welcomed by her family's butler, Phillips, and her mother's personal maid, Grace.

Grace warmly welcomed Ava with a cookie to eat as she waits for her father.

After some minutes later  someone walked in. Mr Adams glad she returned home obediently, he smiled "You came just right in time" he sat down with his legs crossed.

Ava frowned, her father's smile means something is about to go wrong. "Why did you call? She asked with a straight face.

Mr Adams observed her flawless skin and smiled. Ava had grown up to be a beautiful lady. "Meet your sister, Sonia."

Ava  noticed the lady who tried to stay invisible, the lady appeared to be close to her age.

"You had another daughter while my mother was still alive?" She smirked although she was not surprised she always knew that her father was cheating on her mother.

Ava's mother chose not to believe her, she was blinded by love and believed that one day her husband will change. It wasn't up to  a week after her mother's death when her father brought his mistress into the house.

Ava observed the lady before stretching out her hand toward Sonia for a handshake.

Sonia got  irritated by how calm she was. The main reason she came with her father was so she could see the sad reaction of Ava, completely ignoring the hand shake.

"You don't have to pretend." Sonia smiled

Ava's gaze shifted from Sonia to her father, completely confused by what she meant

"Is this why you called me back?"

Mr Adam seeing how awkward it was getting, he quickly changed the topic, "How have you been?"

For the past three years, her father had never called to ask about her well-being, which was strange that he is asking now. " Fine." She replied with a stern expression.

Mr Adams was speechless, knowing she had turned cold towards the family. "Okay, I will just go straight to the point,"  he said.  "I want you to get married, since you are done getting your master's. You're ready for marriage."

Ava recalling the passionate night she had with an unknown man, she quickly frowned, "I do not want to talk about it now," she said, her voice tight. "If this is the reason you called me back, I'm afraid I will have to go."

Mr Adams laughed awkwardly, Ava you don't have a choice. Decide now.

After a moment of silence, Ava finally agreed to his request  to marry, but that's when she finds the right person.  "I should get going now." Ava said, not wanting to discuss it anymore, she made her way towards the front door.

Mr. Adam clapped his hands and said that since this was settled, he had found the perfect man for her.

Ava's feet froze, her eyes darkened, she knew something was off . "Who?" She asked, meeting his gaze. Mr. Adams smiled and said, "Mr. Tom"

Mr. Tom, he was in his late sixties, her father's childhood friend who had four wives and ten children, possibly it couldn't be him. Ava thought.

She clenched her fists behind her back, returning the smile to him, acting clueless, " You mean your friend or another Mr. Tom?"

"My friend," he replied curtly.

"You want to sell me off to that old man for your selfish interest? Ava asked.

"You should at least have a little shame left in you, marrying me off to an old hag. Do you think I will be happy in that marriage? she said, barely holding up her tears.

"How dare you!" He shouted pointing his fingers at her.  "Who cares about your happiness, he is so rich and that is what matters now."

Sonia, satisfied with Ava's reaction, she smiled, "Sister you should be happy, you can use his money as much as you want. Besides, if you don't marry him no one will marry you."

Ava laughed  like a crazy person, she was losing it, and grabbed the front door handle to step out . Mr Adam shouted, "if you move an inch, you are no longer part of the Adams family." He was scared she could do something crazy when she steps out.

Ava smirked, glancing at him "l stopped being part of this family the moment you cast my mother out."

After she left the mansion,  she could not think straight. She decided to walk to the park. With everything that happened today, she needed to clear her mind. As time went on, darkness covered the night, so she booked a hotel for the night.

Ava, staring at her phone, remembered her father's words, " You're no longer a part of the Adams family."  She laughed sarcastically, thinking about everything that had happened in the last few years, she might as well consider herself an orphan. Losing her appetite she slept off.

I was the long-lost Donovan heiress, finally brought home after a childhood in foster care. My parents adored me, my husband cherished me, and the woman who tried to ruin my life, Kiera Reese, was locked away in a mental facility. I was safe. I was loved. On my birthday, I decided to surprise my husband, Ivan, at his office. But he wasn't there. I found him at a private art gallery across town. He was with Kiera. She wasn't in a facility. She was radiant, laughing as she stood beside my husband and their five-year-old son. I watched through the glass as Ivan kissed her, a familiar, loving gesture he’d used with me just that morning. I crept closer and overheard them. My birthday wish to go to the amusement park had been denied because he’d already promised the entire park to their son—whose birthday was the same day as mine. "She’s so grateful to have a family, she’d believe anything we tell her," Ivan said, his voice laced with a cruelty that stole my breath. "It's almost sad." My entire reality—my loving parents who funded this secret life, my devoted husband—was a five-year lie. I was just the fool they kept on stage. My phone buzzed. It was a text from Ivan, sent while he stood with his real family. "Just got out of the meeting. So exhausting. I miss you." The casual lie was the final blow. They thought I was a pathetic, grateful orphan they could control. They were about to find out just how wrong they were.
