Chapter 38

Millicent's POV

'What the fuck?' I heard Christopher say and felt him throw the covers over me and at the same time jumped off me. I felt bereft. I had not been aware of my surroundings. I had been far gone in pleasure land, so my mind was slow in taking in the things that were happening. So I sat up to find out why Christopher had leapt away from me. Was he going to stop half way again, like he did at the stream? I looked up to find Sylvester at the door, blood dripping from his mouth, there was a red welt on Christopher's cheek as well and I realised what had happened.

How did Sylvester know where to find us? I thought in my head, as I burrowed back under the bed covers, covering myself from view.

'Damn! He just interrupted something deliciously exquisite!' Milly moaned.

'Shut up! This is not the time to be randy!' I cautioned.

When they started arguing about whose mate I was, I knew that I had to do something. I quickly picked my discarded shirt from beside the bed where it had been thrown, pulled it over my head and drew it down my body, still under the covers, off course. Then I zipped up my shorts. I inadvertently looked towards the door and I saw someone. It was Cathania! I should have known. She was surely the one to burst our bubble. She had her usual smug smile on her lips.

'Let's go to the open field', Sylvester suggested in fury.

'Yes, let's! We have to settle this matter once for all', I heard Christopher say.

I knew that I could not allow them do that before they killed each other.

'Stop this for goodness sake!' I shouted, coming to stand between them. ' You are leaders of a pack and you want to teach your subjects that the way to settle any issue is through combat?' I asked.

'Millicent, why are you doing this?' Sylvester surprised me by asking. 'We were going to get married. You are supposed to be my mate, my Luna!'

'Millicent, do not listen to him! You havedone nothing wrong. Nothing to be ashamed of', Christopher said, and I smiled my thanks. 'You have just made your choice and he should respect it'.

'I had her first, Christopher!'

'Then you didn't. I am the one who has her now!'

'Stop this, you two', I shouted again. 'Why are you bickering like two little boys? Please, the both of you should go to your rooms and cool off!'

'No! we are going to have a duel, the winner will have you, Millicent and the other will have no choice but to hands off!' Sylvester said.

'Yes! Yes!' some males from the crowd that had gathered shouted.

'No!' I said. 'I shall not have the both of you duel over me. If you do, I shall reject the both of you and you shall not never see me again!'

Both of them glared at each other and stormed off to their respective rooms.

I heaved a sigh and thank goodness, the onlookers had started dispersing. I prepared to go to my room for a quick shower and a little rest.

Clap! Clap! Clap!

I swung round to see Cathania. I had forgotten about her.

'Mighty Luna, sought after by the two mighty Alphas', she said. 'See what you are causing between the brothers, you whore! Luna, my foot!'

'You are still here? Aren't you supposed to go back to your pack?' I asked. 'This is a family matter. We don't need interference from outsiders like you!'

'Who is an outsider?' she asked, and struck at me. I caught her hand in the air and threw it back at her.

'Don't you even dare!' I warned. ' I will not only break your claws next time you raise them to me, you will also be surprised at the charges I shall level against you if you do!'

She was silent for a while, seething and suddenly, she laughed.

'There's really no need for that! I was testing your mantle and I can see that you are not brittle at all', she said. 'You know, my admiration for you is increasing by the day. Who would believe that the maid of yesteryears, was the same one, putting two mighty Alphas in their place and making sure they obeyed her? It is really a mighty feat!'

'Cathania, please make way. I don't have the time nor the energy to stay and chat!' I said, tiredly. I felt very exhausted and the fight had gone out of me. I just wanted to have a cool shower and a nap. Though I had to admit that her words caught me by surprise. I had not expected her apology, if you could call it that.

She shifted to the side and I walked pass her towards the building but I found that she fell in step with me, in such a way that any on looker would think we were actually walking together by mutual consent. What does Cathania want now?

I got to the mansion, entered and was going to start climbing the stairs to my room, expecting her to go a different way but she followed me up the stairs.

'Cathania, where are you going?' I asked.

'I want to have a word with you but I want it to be between us', she said.

I nodded, wondering what she wanted to discuss with me.

'Where do you want us to stay?' I asked.

'I'd rather we stayed in your room', she said. 'I do not want anyone to eavesdrop in on us nor disturb us'.

As we passed by Sylvester's room, 'Excuse me, a moment', she said, entering the room. I was going to ask what she was going into one of the Alpha's room for but I recalled she and Sylvester had been an item, and still was and kept my mouth shut.

'Meet me in my room', I muttered, instead, walking towards my room. She soon fell into step with me again just as I opened the door to my room and was about to enter.

As I entered the room, I saw she had something in her hands. A bottle of wine and two wine glasses. This discussion Cathania wants to have with me must be really something for her to want to share a bottle of wine with me, I thought to myself.

'You cannot trust this sneaky bitch', Milly whispered in my head. But what do I need to be cautious for?

I waved her to a chair in the room and sat on the only other chair in the room. I waited for her to initiate the discussion but she just sat there stating at the bottle of wine.

'Cathania, you said you wanted to speak with me, can we do this fast, I really need to sleep, I barely slept last night and the run, this morning has really exhausted me', I said yawning, involuntarily.

'No worries, after our discussion, you will have more rest than you intended', she smiled.

'What do you mean?' I asked baffled.

'Don't worry about that. I just wondered why you have not allowed yourself to get pregnant', she said seriously.

I was shocked. 'What are you talking about?

'Get pregnant with one of the Alphas especially the one you prefer. It will help secure your position', she clarified.

'You can't possibly mean that, Cathania, can you?'

'Oh, Millicent, don't play dumb with me and stop putting on this righteous airs of yours. We just found you in a very intimate position with Christopher', she said. 'if we had not come at the time we did, both of you would have mated. So why are you acting like you do not know what I am talking about?'

'I am not so conniving as to hold anyone down against their will, everything will take its natural and destined course!' I said getting angry with Cathania and disgusted with what she was suggesting.

She raised her hands in mock surrender. 'Okay, okay. No need to get so worked up', she said. 'I meant no harm. Just advising you on how to get what you want faster. But it is really all up to you'.

I heaved, trying to get my self back in control. This woman knew how to get ony nerves. If she wanted to get what she wanted very quickly, why had she not born Sylvester any pups or at least become pregnant with his pup. She was more desperate than I, after all.

'To show you that I come in peace, let's share a drink', she offered.

I nodded. And she poured the drinks into the glasses.

It was only one drink and I'll be rid of her so I can have my rest, I thought, rubbing my tired eyes with my hands.

'Here, all done', she said offering me a glass. 'Truce?' she said smiling.

'Truce', I consented, taking the glass from her.

She took a sip. 'Wow, heavenly!' she exclaimed.

I lifted my glass to my lips, putting the cup down, after a sip.

'What? You don't like it?' she asked, her voice incredulous. 'Finish off your drink. It would be a shame to waste such a wonderful wine!'

I lifted the glass to my lips again and downed it's contents.
