Chapter 35

Millicent's POV

I could not sleep that night. Anytime I shut my eyes, I saw Christopher's face. I could not get the kiss out of my mind either.

I had had to take a bath when I got to my room after leaving Christopher by the stream. The cool bath had done nothing to cool my heated body as my senses continued to run riot on me. I wanted to go to him, so that we could continue what we had started, what he had interrupted. I should be grateful to him for stopping when he did. And I was but I felt disappointed as well.

Early the next morning, before anyone was up, I was out and running. The exercise was good for me and I could feel the tension in my body easing.

After the exertion and my mind seemed to be clearer, I was about to return to my room when I heard footsteps behind me. Someone was also running. It would seem that I was not the only one who could not sleep or the person was running for sport - to keep fit. The two Alphas did it, Alphas Sylvester and Christopher. I knew now that it was beneficial.

The person came up beside me but it was not any of the males I had presumed. It was Cathania!

'Oh, It's you Cathania', I said, surprised.

'When did you start running?' she asked. 'Or are you doing this to win the heart of Sylvester? Or get him to mate with you here in the open?'

I was shocked and could only look at her. She sounded really malicious. What was irking her? If there was anyone who should be angry, then it was me. I saw her making out with my mate for goodness sake.

'You think that he loves you?' she asked bitchily. 'If you think that, then you are more of a fool that I gave you credit for! Do you think he loves you and he is still seeing me? When you will realise what you have got yourself into, it will be really late!' she said, laughing.

I wasn't going to dignify her words with a response. So, I made to pass but she stood on my way, her hands spread sideways, blocking my path. As I made to go right, she shifted to the right, and if I went left, she shifted to the left, clearly not wanting to let me be ony way.

' Cathania, what do you want?' I asked.

'Leave Sylvester alone. He belongs to me', she said, beating her chest to emphasize the fact. 'Ho back to where you came from and leave he and I to live out lives we are supposed to!'

'Talk to your Alpha then. I am not the one doing the chasing. He is. And I am just a lowly maid, who can only do his bidding', I said, then wanting to get her angry, I added suggestively, 'No matter what that bidding might be'

Slap! 'You whore!' she said. 'Aren't you ashamed of causing a rift between two close brothers?'

I rubbed my check, seething. Cathania would never change was my thought.

'She the way the brothers are always quarrelling over you. What do you hope to achieve? Sleep with the both of them? And even their Betas as well. I wouldn't put it pass you, didnt you do it in the past before you were sent on exile?'

Slap! I retaliated, with all my strength, making sure it was a harder one than she gave me. 'How dare you slap your Luna?' I asked. 'I have a mind to report you to the council and you will be severally punished!'

'You are not my Luna!', she screamed, rubbing her cheek like I had done earlier. 'I am not from this pack, not yet anyway. And you are not yet married to anyone of the Alphas. So you are just their whore!'

'If you are not from this pack, then what are you doing here?' I asked smiling. Cathania had to realise that the roles were reversed now. 'And if I am a whore, what are you? You are not married to Alpha Sylvester and won't be, I'll make sure of that!'

'Bitch!' she spat. 'I shall deal with you. You shall learn not to mess with me, I promise!' Then shoving me to the side, she stormed off.

I don't know how long I stood there but suddenly, I heard someone say: 'Alpha Christopher, are you sure you want to go for your usual run? You are later than usual. Maybe we should leave it fo another day?'

From the sound of the person's voice, it was his Beta.

I didn't know if I wanted to see him or not. My feelings were confused. I felt happy, that I was going to see him but I was also scared and I had run with the specific intention to see if the exertion would help me forget about him, you know get him out of my mind.

'I am sure', he said gently. 'Don't come with me!' Then as though as though he suddenly remembered. 'Has there been a word from those warriors I sent to carry out the investigation?'

'Not yet', Alpha Christopher.

What investigation? Was there something going on that I didn't know? I tried to hide but I had left it too long and as I Ade to hide, he called for me'.

'Millicent, is that you?' How had he known it was I?

'Come out, my love, I can smell you', he said. Oh, so that was how he knew, I thought as I walked towards him.

'What's the problem?' he asked, as soon as his eyes met mine. Was he really that perceptive?

'Problem? There's no problem', I said, then to change the subject more than the need to know,I asked, 'Hope you had a good night rest?'

'I couldn't sleep', he said, coming closer and looking deep into my eyes, ' I thought of you, through the night. I tried to force you out of my mind but I couldn't'.

I opened my mouth to say something to divert him from what I was sure he intended but I found that my mouth had been captured by his.

There was no use fighting it, this was what I wanted as well. This was what I had spent the night wanting and from his words, it was the same for him too. So, I melted into his body and with a groan, he pulled me tightly into his arms as he sank his tongue into my mouth, teasing, exciting me. I felt myself moving and realised he had carried me and I do not know through what route but he opened a door and we were inside a room.

'Where is...' I started.

'Shh', he said, stopping my words with one single finger placed vertically on my lips. 'Not now '.

I didn't think I wanted to have any discussions either. I had something else on my mind.
