Chapter 3

Kingston woke up the next afternoon. When he opened his eyes and saw me, he froze for a moment.

I was sitting beside the bed, and my eyes were red.

"You've been crying?" His voice was hoarse.

I really did want to cry. If Kingston had died while he was with me, his father would inevitably blame me. He might even kick me out, and the money in my bank account could be frozen. The thought made me as sad as I'd be if my husband had died.

But Kingston suddenly laughed. His eyes lit up as he looked at me. "Leah Henderson, before this, I always thought you were only being nice to me because of money. But yesterday, you risked your life to save me. Now, I believe you really like me."

I opened my mouth. "Actually…"

He interrupted me. "Since we're already married, I'm willing to give you a chance. We can try getting along first. Oh, right. Do you still have spending money? I'll transfer another 100 million dollars to you."

I immediately swallowed the words I was about to say. "Thank you. I really like you."

The live comments instantly erupted in despair.

"I want a husband who randomly transfers me money like this. Why does he say 100 million dollars like it's nothing?"

"Kingston, wake up! Don't you realize that Leah is basically a seasoned corporate slave treating you like a client? She only likes the way you drop cash!"

I ignored the noisy comments and looked thoughtfully at Kingston. This guy really lived life on the edge. If one day, he really got himself killed, would the York family still let me stay?

No.

Now that I had tasted luxury, I could not go back to living poor, enduring the exhausting life I had before.

So, I might need a child.

On the night Kingston was discharged from the hospital, I slipped into his room wearing a low-cut slip dress. When he looked up, he nearly dropped his phone on his face.

"Kingston." I knelt on the bed between his legs and looked up at him. "You're all I have. Please don't get hurt again, okay?"

My voice was soft, and my eyes glistened.

His body stiffened, and his breathing grew heavier. In a hoarse voice, he asked, "What are you doing?"

I leaned closer, and my lips almost brushed his chin. "I'm seducing you, honey."

He cursed under his breath and suddenly pulled me up, only to pin me down onto the bed.

Thanks to Kingston's hard work, I successfully tested positive for pregnancy two months later.

Stanford was so happy that he immediately gifted me a seaside villa.

Kingston became extremely nervous and wouldn't let me touch anything. He accompanied me to every prenatal checkup, all at the most expensive private hospitals. In the villa, there were three more housemaids, a nutritionist, and a private doctor.

In my fifth month of pregnancy, Kingston brought me to a York Group celebration banquet. I wore a custom-made dress with a high waistline that hid my baby bump, only making my figure look fuller. Kingston went off to socialize and told me to wait in the lounge area.

Just as I sat down, I saw a familiar figure. Nina.

She was wearing a cheap black dress and holding the arm of a balding middle-aged man. His hand kept wandering across her waist while she forced a smile. When she saw me, her eyes widened instantly.

"Leah!" She rushed over and pointed straight at my face. "Where the hell did you disappear to? Do you know how long I've been looking for you?

"Those debt collectors keep coming to harass me, saying I owe them five million dollars. Even selling the house wouldn't cover it. You knew all along and set me up on purpose, didn't you? Hurry up and pay them back!"

Nina was furious. After finding out she owed so much money, her rich boyfriend had dumped her right away. Now, she could only force herself to stay with her creditor. All of this was supposed to be Leah's burden!

The man beside her had his eyes glued to me. "So, this is your sister. She really is pretty. How about this? Let her spend a night with me. If I'm satisfied, I'll clear the rest of your debt."

Nina looked at me. Her expression shifted from anger to calculation, then finally to excitement. She reached out to grab me, but I dodged.

"Don't act so pure," Nina sneered, raising her hand to slap me. "You snuck into a place like this wearing fake designer clothes just to hook up with some rich guy, didn't you? Stop dreaming."

As she grabbed my wrist painfully, I spotted a familiar figure in the crowd.

Suddenly, I raised my voice, "Honey, I'm over here."
