The Night My Sister Became the Stakes
Chapter 2
Everyone was stunned. Even the doctors stopped in their tracks.
The manager rushed forward, his hand trembling as he picked up the black card that had fallen from Evonne's pocket. His forehead was immediately matted with cold sweat.
"This… This is a Centurion Black Card?" he gasped.
At that, the room erupted in whispers.
"What? A Centurion Black Card?"
"There's only one person in the entire country who holds this card. I heard she's powerful and mysterious, and she could destroy a family by just lifting a finger. How did the card end up in Evonne's hands?"
Simon's eyes widened upon seeing the card, his expression darkening at once.
The manager was sweating buckets as he quickly dialed the top floor of the bar. "Mr. Clarke, we have a guest holding a Centurion Black Card. Please come down immediately."
A woman descended from the top floor not long after.
I recognized her at once. It was Dominic's assistant, Amanda Yarldon.
"Mr. Clarke is being held up, so he asked me to attend to this distinguished guest," she said with a polished smile.
Just as Amanda was about to take the card from the manager, Rachel interrupted her, "If I'd known this card was so special, I would've shown it myself."
Rachel pulled out a black card from her bag, holding it between her fingers as she waved it in front of Amanda.
Everyone was shocked to see the card in her hand. It was another Centurion Black Card.
"I am the rightful holder of the Centurion Black Card. Who is she to have it? It's probably a fake!" Rachel looked at Evonne with utter contempt.
Amanda stepped forward and took Rachel's card. After examining it for a bit, her gaze at Rachel grew with a hint of admiration. "Ms. Lopez's card is real."
After that, she turned to look at Evonne disdainfully. "Not everyone can own a black card, Ms. Bradford. Passing off a fake like this is embarrassing."
Evonne shook her head, her voice tight with panic. "That's impossible! My older sister gave me this card, there's no way it's fake! She's Abigail Bradford!"
Rachel scoffed. "Abigail Bradford? There isn't a single big shot in Gryndon I don't know of, and I've never heard of her."
Amanda crossed her arms and stood by the side, clearly enjoying the spectacle. "Since Ms. Lopez is the most distinguished guest in the bar, Ms. Bradford's matter has nothing to do with Mr. Clarke. Go on."
The previously quiet crowd started erupting again.
"Hurry up and get her examined! I've got millions riding on this!"
"I'm adding another 500 grand! I have to win it!"
The doctors surrounded Evonne once again, their hands reaching toward the last shred of her dignity.
Gillian still hadn't returned, but I couldn't wait any longer.
"Enough!" I rose angrily from the booth and strode forward. While the doctors remained in shock, I pulled Evonne off the stage and got her dressed.
Rachel stared at me in shock, fury blazing in her eyes. "Who are you? Do you have any idea what happens when you cause trouble on Mr. Clarke's turf?"
I pulled Evonne behind me and coldly spat, "I'm Abigail Bradford, the eldest daughter of the Bradford family."
