The Night I Was Replaced
Chapter 2
My friends were in an uproar in no time, whispering and snickering among themselves.
"Let's be real. If it weren't for your brother and your wife, we wouldn't give a hoot about a lame guy like you getting hitched. Better say you're sorry, and fast. Everyone knows you bent over backward to marry Janet. If you can't have kids, you won't be able to handle the Wallace family's fury."
Everyone thought I was lucky to marry Janet, like I had reached for a star.
However, the truth was, the Wallace family was falling apart, and it was Janet who begged me to marry her. She was the one I adored.
When she looked upset, I rushed to bail out the Wallace family with all I had. When she smiled, I snapped up any fancy watch she wanted without blinking. When she asked, I got her the best bodyguards, no questions asked.
However, after she met Elliot, things took a turn. She started using my money to spoil Elliot with a fancy house. She handed over that pricey watch to him, to make him look good. She even sent my bodyguards to look after him.
The more I thought about it, the colder and harder my heart got.
I just smiled faintly, facing the friends who laughed at me. "Ironic… I don't think much of you guys either. Today, I'm cutting ties with everyone here. That includes you."
After saying that, I wheeled my chair around to leave.
However, Janet caught hold of me.
She towered over me and said sharply, "You can't go! You have to stay and watch me and Elliot tonight. If you don't, you might spread lies about us and ruin our good name!"
I stared at her, almost laughing. They were about to sleep together and she was still talking about being innocent?
I refused, but she had her parents and my friends pick up my wheelchair and dump me in the bathroom. When they snatched my chair, I fell hard to the floor.
My legs, which were not functioning, were trampled on. I lay there, struggling and humiliated.
Their mocking looks broke what little pride I had left.
My mom thought I had not had enough. "You're already half-dead, so why act tough? You'll need your brother and Janet to take care of you and keep our family and business looking good. Just do what Janet says and think about what you've done!"
With that, they slammed the bathroom door shut.
I had no choice but to listen to the sounds of Elliot and Janet outside, their moans making me angry.
Through the glass door, I could see their shadows, and it hurt to look.
I hit the floor with my fist, growling with rage.
Elliot seemed to enjoy it even more.
"Janet, who's better? Me or your husband?"
Janet gasped and cuddled up to him, teasing, "Oh, stop. You're the only man I've been with. How would I know?"
Then, I felt a sharp pain in my hand. I looked down and saw that I had pinched it until it was bleeding. I shut my eyes tight, grabbed my phone, and found Yvette Robinson's number.
"Get me the best divorce lawyer. I'm done with Janet for good!"
I secretly taped Janet cheating. I took a deep breath, pushed myself up, and spun around.
However, my face went white when I saw the trash can behind me. Inside the trash can was a used pregnancy test that showed a positive result!
…
The day after they let me go, all that was left on our bed was Janet's shredded wedding dress.
I turned away, feeling sick, and left the room.
On the living room table, there was a bowl of soup that smelled amazing. After a night of being so upset, I was worn out. I grabbed the bowl without thinking, but then my mom smacked it out of my hand.
She looked really annoyed. "That's the special stew I made for Elliot. It costs a lot, and it's just for him. If you have it, what will he have?
"Giving it to you would only be a waste."
