The Luna after Alpha chose his first Love Novel Cover

The Luna after Alpha chose his first Love

I am Zoe, Luna of the Frostpine Pack—or at least I used to be. The day I nearly died giving birth to my son should have been the happiest day of my life. Instead, my mate, Alpha Kevin, chose his first love over me. While I bled on an operating table, he gave my doctors, my blood supply, and even my recovery room to Bella—the woman who once abandoned him and suddenly returned carrying another man's child. When Kevin accused me of crimes I never committed and stood silently while Bella stole everything that belonged to the Luna, something inside me finally broke. I took my newborn son and disappeared into the fog, leaving behind the pack, my title, and the mate bond that had chained me to heartbreak. But freedom comes with a price. As Kevin desperately hunts for me, dark secrets begin to surface. Bella's return was never an accident, and the betrayal runs deeper than anyone imagined. Meanwhile, in a distant territory, a powerful Alpha named David offers me something I thought I'd lost forever—respect, protection, and a chance to heal. Now Kevin wants me back. The truth has finally opened his eyes. The problem? Some realizations come too late. And when an Alpha chooses his first love over his Luna, he may lose her forever.

Chapter 3

"Help!" Bella shrieked from down the hall. "Somebody help me! She's not breathing!"

Chaos erupted in the corridor. Footsteps pounded against the linoleum. Medics shouted orders, their voices overlapping in a frantic blur.

"Get the suction!" a nurse yelled.

"She choked on her milk! Clear her airway!" another responded.

I clutched my hospital blanket, my heart hammering against my ribs. A tiny, fragile baby was suffocating just a few doors down. I squeezed my eyes shut, praying for the infant.

"She's breathing!" a doctor announced loudly. "Vitals are stabilizing."

I let out a long exhale, slumping back against my pillows.

My door slammed open, hitting the wall with a deafening crack.

Kevin stormed into the room. His chest heaved, and his eyes burned with a furious, golden light. He marched straight to the side of my bed, towering over me.

"What did you do?" he demanded, his voice a lethal low growl.

I stared at him, completely baffled. "What?"

"Don't play dumb, Zoe." He slammed his hands onto the metal bedrail. "Bella's daughter nearly died. What did you do to her formula?"

The accusation felt like a physical blow. "Are you insane? I just had major surgery. I can't even stand up."

"You were angry," Kevin snapped. "You yelled at Bella earlier. You wanted to punish her."

"I haven't moved from this mattress!" I shouted, ignoring the sharp sting in my abdomen. "You think I would try to kill a newborn baby?"

"You hate that she is here."

"I hate that my mate left me to bleed out on an operating table!" I fired back. "But I would never harm a child. How could you even think that?"

Kevin narrowed his eyes, studying my pale face. His jaw clenched tightly.

"It better not be you," he said, his tone turning to ice. "Otherwise, I will never forgive you."

He turned on his heel and walked out, leaving the door wide open.

I pulled my knees to my chest and buried my face in my hands. The physical pain of my incision was nothing compared to the violent tear in my chest. He didn't just abandon me. He thought I was a monster.

By noon the next day, the hospital room felt like a prison.

Voices drifted from the VIP lounge across the hall. The Frostpine Pack elders had arrived.

I forced myself out of bed. Every step sent a jolt of fire through my stomach, but I grabbed the IV pole and wheeled it toward the door. I needed to see my pack. I needed my people.

I stopped in the doorway of the lounge.

Bella sat on a plush sofa, dabbing her eyes with a tissue. Elder Grayson stood beside her, his wrinkled face full of sympathy. Several other pack members crowded around, offering her water and soft murmurs of comfort.

"It was terrifying," Bella sobbed. "The crash came out of nowhere. I thought I was going to lose my little girl."

"You are safe now," Elder Grayson said. "The Alpha protected you."

"I just don't understand why Zoe hates me so much," Bella whimpered, dropping her tissue. "I heard the whispers. People think she caused the crash on purpose because she knew I was returning to the pack."

"That is a lie!" I pushed my IV pole forward, stepping into the room.

The room fell dead silent. Everyone turned to stare at me.

Kevin stood in the corner, his arms crossed over his chest. He didn't move to help me.

"Luna Zoe," Elder Grayson said, his tone stiff. "You should be resting."

"I will not rest while she accuses me of attempted murder," I said, pointing a shaking finger at Bella. "I was a victim in that crash, too."

Bella shrank back against the sofa cushions. "I didn't mean to upset you, Zoe. I'm just so scared. Especially after what happened last night."

She reached up and unbuttoned the top of her silk blouse.

A silver chain rested against her collarbone. Hanging from the center was a massive, teardrop-shaped moonstone. It caught the harsh hospital lights, glowing with a faint blue aura.

My stomach dropped into a bottomless pit.

"Kevin gave me this," Bella whispered, touching the stone. "He told me it would keep me safe. He said it was a token of his eternal protection."

Elder Grayson frowned. "Alpha Kevin? That is the Frostpine Moonstone. It is meant only for the Luna."

"I know," Bella said, casting a tearful glance at Kevin. "I tried to give it back to him when I left three years ago. But he refused to take it. He told me to keep it forever."

I turned my head slowly, locking eyes with my mate.

On our wedding night, I asked him about the missing pack heirloom. He told me it was lost. He swore he would find it and place it around my neck.

"Tell them," I challenged, my voice cracking. "Tell them she stole it."

Kevin held my gaze. His expression remained entirely unreadable.

"Kevin," I pleaded. "Say something."

He uncrossed his arms and shoved his hands into his pockets. "It is just a necklace, Zoe. Let it go."

A collective gasp rippled through the pack members.

He didn't deny it. He let her claim the Luna's heirloom right in front of my face.

"I see," I whispered.

I didn't yell. I didn't cry. I simply turned my IV pole around and walked out of the lounge. I finally understood the truth. I was never his true mate. I was just a placeholder until the woman he actually loved decided to come back.

Night fell, wrapping the hospital in heavy shadows.

The pain medication wore off, leaving me wide awake. I needed to see my son.

I shuffled down the quiet corridor toward the NICU. The large glass window offered a clear view of the incubators.

I stopped short.

Kevin stood inside the dim room. He wasn't standing next to Leo's incubator. He was holding a tiny bundle wrapped in a pink blanket. Bella stood right beside him, her head resting gently on his shoulder.

They looked perfect. A complete, happy family.

"She has your nose," Bella whispered, her voice carrying through the cracked door.

"She is so small," Kevin replied, his thumb brushing the baby's cheek.

"If I hadn't left three years ago," Bella asked softly, trailing a hand down Kevin's arm. "Would it be me standing by your side? Would I be your Luna?"

I held my breath, my fingernails digging into my palms.

Tell her no. Tell her you love me.

Kevin stared down at the baby. "The past cannot be changed, Bella."

He didn't say no.

I backed away from the window. The last remaining thread of hope inside me snapped.

I walked straight to my room and picked up my phone. I dialed a number I hadn't used in five years.

"Uncle Marcus," I said when the line clicked open.

"Zoe?" His gruff voice sounded thick with sleep. "It's the middle of the night. What's wrong?"

"I need your help," I said, staring at the blank hospital wall. "I need new identities. For me and my son."

"Are you leaving the Alpha?"

"Yes."

"Pack law requires the Alpha's consent to take a pup across borders," Marcus warned. "If he catches you, he will lock you in the cells."

"He won't catch me," I said flatly. "Can you get the papers ready?"

"Give me twenty-four hours. I will send a car to the hospital loading dock tomorrow night."

"Thank you, Uncle."

I ended the call and tossed the phone onto the bed.

I closed my eyes and focused on the deep, magical tether in my chest. The Mate Bond. It pulsed with a dull, heavy ache, connecting my soul directly to Kevin's.

"I, Zoe," I whispered to the empty room, "reject you, Alpha Kevin Mercer."

A sharp, violent tear ripped through my heart. I dropped to my knees, gasping for air as the bond shattered into a million jagged pieces. The pain was blinding, far worse than the surgery.

I pressed my forehead against the cold floor, waiting for the agony to pass.

Suddenly, heavy boots slammed against the floorboards in the hallway, sprinting directly toward my room.

"Zoe!" Kevin roared, his voice shaking the entire ward.
