Chapter 4

Chapter 4: The Boardroom Execution

The glass-walled boardroom of Thorne Enterprises overlooked the city like a vulture's nest. Silas sat at the head of the table, sweating through his five-thousand-dollar suit. He kept checking his watch, his leg twitching.

"Where are they?" Silas barked at his assistant. "The Vane Group was supposed to be here ten minutes ago to sign the merger."

"They're just arriving, sir," the assistant whispered, looking terrified.

The double doors swung open.

Dante Vane walked in first. He was a mountain of dark charisma, radiating a cold, predatory energy that silenced the room instantly. But it wasn't Dante who made the air leave Silas's lungs.

It was the woman on his arm.

Elena walked in wearing the crimson dress Dante had chosen. It fit her like a second skin, bold and unapologetic. Her hair was swept back, revealing the sharp, regal line of her jaw. She didn't look like the woman Silas had bent over a desk ten hours ago.

She looked like the woman who owned him.

"Elena?" Silas gasped, half-rising from his chair. "What the hell is this? Why are you with him?"

Dante pulled out a chair for Elena at the foot of the table, directly opposite Silas. He didn't answer. He simply sat down, leaning back with a terrifyingly calm expression.

"You're late, Thorne," Dante said, his voice cutting through the room like a blade. "And you're out of time."

"Get out, Elena!" Silas shouted, his face turning a mottled purple. "This is a private business meeting. You're a divorced housewife with nothing to your name. Go wait in the hall before I have security throw you out."

Elena didn't flinch. She leaned forward, resting her chin on her hand, a slow, dangerous smile spreading across her lips. "Actually, Silas, I'm not here as your wife. I'm here as the majority shareholder of the Vane Group's newest acquisition."

"Acquisition?" Silas laughed nervously, looking around the table at his board members. They all looked at the floor. "What is she talking about, Dante? Sign the merger so we can get on with this."

Dante slid a single sheet of paper across the polished mahogany. "There is no merger, Silas. I bought your debt. Every cent of it. And as of five minutes ago, I've executed the clause that allows me to seize your assets due to your... gross mismanagement."

Silas grabbed the paper, his hands shaking so violently he nearly tore it. "This is impossible. I have investors! I have-"

"You have nothing," Elena interrupted. Her voice was steady, cold, and dripping with a satisfaction that felt better than any touch. "You spent your investors' money on diamond necklaces for your mistress, Silas. Did you think I wouldn't find out? Did you think I wouldn't tell the man who was looking for an excuse to bury you?"

Silas looked at her, the realization sinking in. "You... you gave him the ledgers?"

"I gave him everything," Elena whispered, her eyes flashing with a dark fire. "Just like you gave me away to settle your debts. How does it feel to be the one traded for a signature, Silas?"

Silas lunged across the table, his hand raised as if to strike her. "You bitch! I made you!"

Before he could reach her, Dante was on his feet. In a blur of movement, he caught Silas's wrist, twisting it until Silas dropped to his knees with a cry of pain.

Dante leaned down, his voice a low, lethal growl that made everyone in the room shudder. "Touch her again, and I won't just take your company. I'll take your hands. She is mine now. And I protect what is mine."

Dante let go, and Silas slumped to the floor, panting, his dignity shattered in front of his entire board.

Elena stood up, smoothing the front of her red dress. She looked down at the man who had treated her like a slave for three years. "Pack your things, Silas. Or don't. Everything in that penthouse belongs to Dante now. Including the bed you used to 'own' me in."

She turned to Dante, her gaze softening with a mix of shared triumph and simmering erotic heat. "I think we're done here."

Dante placed a possessive hand on the small of her back, pulling her close. "Not quite," he murmured for her ears only. "We still have to celebrate your first victory."

As they walked out of the boardroom, leaving Silas sobbing on the floor, Elena felt the first real taste of freedom. But as Dante's hand tightened on her waist, she knew the game was far from over.
