Chapter 1

The company just hired a clueless new intern.

For a contract worth millions, she misplaced a decimal point and practically handed it over for one dollar.

I chased after the high-speed train and drank until my stomach bled before I managed to recover the company's losses.

While I was still in the hospital, she ran to my fiance, Edward Cooper, to complain.

"I've always been bad at math. How was I supposed to know something like that!"

Edward smiled at her dotingly, replying, "You just lack experience. Go ahead and do whatever you want. If anything goes wrong, Zoe will take the blame."

I was so furious I nearly quit on the spot.

To so-call "make it up to me," Jenny insisted on cleaning my office as an apology. She ended up throwing newly approved bidding proposals straight into the shredder.

The company lost hundreds of millions. I was fired and sued.

I ended up in prison, where I was tortured to death by inmates.

As I lay there on my last breath, I heard Jenny crying once more.

"If only I were smarter… maybe Zoe would still be alive?"

Edward stroked her head gently, soothing her, "She was incompetent. She couldn't even keep track of her documents. You're still young. You don't need to blame yourself."

I died of anger.

When I opened my eyes again, I had returned to the day Jenny first joined the company.

"Zoe, I've finished the contract for the project we secured yesterday on your behalf. Shall I send it to the client now?"

The familiar voice jolted me awake.

"Don't touch the computer! I'll deal with the contract on my own. Leave my office at once!"

The same day in my previous life, Jenny had tried to show off. While I was in a meeting, she snuck into my office and made the contract on her own.

In the end, she misplaced a decimal point, turning a multi-million-dollar deal into a one-dollar giveaway.

I had rushed all the way to the high-speed rail station, begging and negotiating, even drinking with the client the entire night.

Only then did I manage to recover the company's losses.

Jenny pouted aggrievedly, saying, "Zoe, do you think I'm stupid? You wouldn't even let me do a thing. I don't know much, sure, but I've been working hard for the company. It's like you're biased against me."

Since the day she joined, it was either she 'accidentally' destroying important documents or her trying to deliver water to coworkers, only to accidentally' splash it onto the power switch and black out the entire building.

Contributing? The fact that she did not cause any more trouble would be much more appreciated.

I grabbed her arm and pulled her up, saying icily, "You are not allowed in my office without my permission. Also, at work, you address me as Ms. Strallen."

Jenny sniffled.

The next moment, someone opened my office door.

Edward Cooper entered, holding Jenny's hand as he did.

"I asked you to mentor her, and this is how you go about it? Zoe, you really let power get over your head!"

I moved the computer screen and pointed to the wrong number on the screen.

"She snuck into my office without my permission and drafted a contract. Look at this contract that she almost sent out. If I hadn't stopped her, the company would have lost millions!"

The moment Edward noticed the mistake, his face instantly turned pale. He had not a single word of retort.

Jenny sniffled and feigned guilt.

"Ms. Strallen, it's all my fault! I've always been slow and not very good with numbers. But when we were alone, why didn't you point out my mistake? Why did you have to wait until Mr. Cooper is here to complain about me?"

Edward sided with her. He looked at me condescendingly and questioned, "Jenny is just an intern. What does it matter if she made a mistake on a contract? Don't forget. You were once an intern, too–and you've made mistakes as well. You were yelled at badly back then. What? You think you get to lord over her and criticize her just because you're higher in rank?"

The office door was wide open. The staff outside were all of my subordinates. If they heard this, how was I supposed to lead them in the future? He was clearly trying to humiliate me in front of them.

In the previous life, I could tell myself that he was just protective of a weak intern. This life, I finally saw through him.

His heart had long been on Jenny.

I snickered. "Fine. If you don't like the way I mentor her, you can do it yourself."

Edward pulled Jenny along and stormed off.

"Fine! You'll see! In less than a year, Jenny will pull you down and take your position!"

The next morning, Jenny entered my office with a wipe in her hand. Her eyes were on the documents on my table.

I secretly snickered.
