Cynthia cried out shrilly, “What did you do? You’ve killed him!”
Matthew was pleased by my failure. “You’re done for, Lilith. Even if Owen is just an illegitimate son, he’s still a member of the Ward family. The Ward family won’t let you off for this! But if you beg me, I might be merciful and help you.”
I pressed my lips tightly together and quickly tied up Owen’s limbs before giving emergency aid.
The doctors in the observation room were all frowning.
“What is Dr. Lilith doing? How did that man end up that way?”
“She must have panicked after seeing Dr. Cynthia succeed.”
“This is absurd! How could she mess up under pressure? It seems we will have to rethink allowing her to be an expert here!”
Fifteen minutes later, Owen was finally stable again, and he fell into unconsciousness. I wiped away my sweat and let out a relieved breath. Cynthia walked over and looked at Owen’s limp manhood. She laughed in delight.
“You’ve lost, Lil. I’ll be awaiting your performance.”
I peeked over at Matthew’s groin and said neutrally, “What’s the rush? Just because he looks better doesn’t mean he is. You’ll have to try it out before you know if he’s better.”
“You just won’t admit you’ve lost!”
Matthew pulled Cynthia into his embrace and kissed her soundly. Amorously, he said, “I’ll show you just how cured I am tonight, darling. Ideally, you’ll have a boy right away. This way, this scammer will be forced to accept defeat!”
Cynthia’s face was aflame as she thumped Matthew’s chest. “You’re such a scoundrel!”
I smirked.
The dark miasma around his groin was fully formed at this point.
There was no chance he could ever have a child.
That night, Matthew and Cynthia made love passionately in the ward. This was the first time Matthew experienced such pleasure, and he was hooked. He was like a possessed man.
In the next room, I looked after Owen. Even as I heard the noises of their exertions, I was softly counting down. “Three, two, one.”
“Ahhhh!”
Matthew’s pained cry came from next door.
At the same time, Owen woke up.
