Chapter 3

As I leave the mansion, my eyes continuously wander among wolves searching for him. Disappointment clouds me. When mates find each other don't they run into each other's arms, talk or at least smile. But this male that is supposed to be mine disappears into thin air. I get into my car with a heavy heart and drive to my pack, my wolves follow. I keep thinking of today's events the weight of my thoughts crushing me. What I failed to notice before I left was a pair of cold eyes looking at me from the balcony window.

The drive back to my pack seems shorter this time and my heart is wary of the increasing distance between Deimos and me. Deimos, my gift from the moon. What does he think about me? Am I exactly what he dreams about? Am I what he wants? These thoughts take up my mind, not wanting to think too much about him I open the window to get some fresh air to cool my hot body that heats instantly with the thought of him.

Seasons pass, summer turns to winter. Soft white blankets of snow cover the land of my pack. I don't go searching for him and he does the same with me. Perhaps this is for the best. I don't need him, I have my pack to take care of. A queen can rule better without her king, her word has power and strength.

Searching for Deimos sitting in my office, only to receive a blank page with his name. Who is this wolf? How can there not be even a single bit of information about him? This sparks curiosity within me. "Alpha, it is time for our females to birth their pups," Elriam says entering the office.

"Send for the healer and prepare the birth house," I command rushing out of my office, running to the birth house. The sound of screams and pups bawling hurts my ears, pregnant females lying on beds trying to overcome the pain of contractions. Their blood splattered across the white sheets of the beds.

"Please help me." A female's voice catches my attention, I notice no wolf helping her, all of their hands full with the other females. I walk up to her looking over, noticing the pup's head slowly trying to come out, catching hold of the pup.

"Push, you are almost there." She screams her pain and her eyes glaze over, tears leaking waiting for death to take her.

"No! Listen to me don't give up, your male is waiting to hold you and your pup, if you give up your pup will die. Look at me." She slowly opens her eyes looking at me. Sweat coats her forehead. "One last push, do your best and you can hold your pup in your hands." She screams the sound of her pup bawling brings life to the birth house. I put the cleaned pup in the female's hands, he snuggles to her chest mouth searching for milk.

"Thank you, Alpha." The female's voice cracking.

My eyes soften. "Keep him safe."

Walking back to my house, my walk is interrupted with Elriam running towards me gasping for breath. "Alpha, we have intruders. They don't seem like rogues, I feel them emitting high power. They seem dangerous we must take our warriors." I snarl, my wolf wants nothing but to kill. Who dares enter my territory without permission. I will kill them all. Running to the gate by the border, I see unfamiliar wolves growling awaiting my arrival. My warriors behind me snarling, puffing up ready for a fight.

"How dare you enter my territory without gaining my permission? Do you wish for your deaths? Answer me, what is the reason for this and perhaps my warriors will show you mercy."

"You."

The voice takes me off- guard. I know this voice. He strides forward from the shade of trees that hid him from me. He was watching me, my reaction to this. Testing my strength. His wolves give way to him moving to both sides to give him the way. I just stand there, my mouth is turning dry. I can't speak. I can't breathe.

"Deimos," I whisper, my throat parched. Licking my lips I question him. "Why are you here?" His stare weakens my knees, my heart beating faster, skipping beats. He folds his hands near his chest, my eyes watch the flex of his muscles wondering what it would feel like to be held by them.

"I do not like to repeat myself." His voice is emotionless.

"What do you want with me?" Chin raised, back straightened I ask him just like an Alpha should. His scrutinizing stare tells me he can see right through my act of strength I am trying to portray to him. He can see he is becoming my weakness.

"I am here to take you and your pack." A loud laugh booms around us, birds fly from trees startled by the sound. The laughter comes from my throat.

"That was quite funny Alpha Deimos. And what made you think I will do as you please." My wolf trying to figure out who to support. Me or her mate. He walks towards me, my warriors growl showing teeth ready to fight for their Alpha. I put my hand up immediately silencing them, curious to see what this male is going to do. He stands in front of me slowly leaning to my ears. His breath brushing the shell of my ears. My hands shake eager to touch his skin.

"I heard your females delivered pups today, their lives lie based upon your decision." He whispers to me. Fury ignites my body. I take steps back closer to my warriors. Who does this male think he is? Is he not my moon blessed? He would kill his mate's pack? My body begins to shake, my wolf wants his throat. We will always protect our pack, even from our so-called mate.

"You come to my kingdom and you threaten their queen?" I scream pointing at my pack. "This will not end well, it will end in war and chaos." My wolf showing her presence, she agrees. He smiles a smile that doesn't reach his eyes. It's sadistic, he likes my idea.

"Look at your warriors, now look at mine." He says while raising his hand. With a flick of his wrist, more warriors flood into my pack land standing behind their Alpha. The amount of warriors I have is nothing compared to his. It will cause loss and destruction. My wolf disagrees, she believes our warriors. She thinks we can take them. I look towards my pack, females holding their newborn cuddled under the protective arms of their mates. Can I do this? Can I put them in harm's way knowing the result as an Alpha?

"So tell me mate." Loud gasps are heard around the field. "Do you think this should end in war and chaos?" He asks quoting my words, knowing very well how exactly I feel at the moment.
