The Erased Wife's Spectacular Wedding Revenge Novel Cover

The Erased Wife's Spectacular Wedding Revenge

I married Alessandro Moretti, heir to the West Coast's most feared family, believing he chose me over duty and blood. On our wedding night, his mistress Gianna texted him. Three days later, Alex looked up from a hospital bed and asked who I was—a fake amnesia staged by his mother, his mistress, and the family doctor. They expected me to vanish quietly. The kinder option, I later learned, was walking away; the other was a fatal car accident no one would question. When Don Moretti's man handed me cash and told me to start over far from San Francisco, I took the money—and stayed. Now I'm planning Gianna and Alex's wedding, and every chandelier, centerpiece, and napkin will be a monument to their worst mistake. They gave me an exit. I'm building them a cage.

Chapter 2

Elena Conti POV:

My fingers were cold, trembling slightly as I held his phone. Alex hadn't added my fingerprint—that would have been too trusting for a Moretti. But he'd been careless in a different way. Three weeks ago, fumbling with a bottle of wine while his other hand held his phone, he'd asked me to type in his passcode. "Seven-seven-one-four," he'd said. "The date the family business incorporated." I'd typed it in without comment, filing the number away the way I filed everything—seating charts, vendor preferences, the weak points in a client's logic. He'd never changed it. He hadn't thought I'd remember.

He'd handed me his passcode the way men like him handed over everything—carelessly, never imagining it could be used against them. The wedding chaos had made him sloppy. He'd meant to archive the conversation before tonight, I knew it as surely as I knew my own name. But the days leading up to a three-hundred-guest wedding left no time for covering tracks. He'd handed me the key to his secrets, certain I'd never use it.

The phrase echoed in my mind now, a sick, hollow joke.

My thumb traced the six digits I'd memorized over wine and laughter. The phone unlocked.

The messaging app was on his home screen. I tapped it. The conversation with "Gianna" sat at the top, marked unread.

I opened it. The last message, the one that had just arrived, was three lines. Three lines, and the architecture of my life collapsed.

"Last night was incredible, Alex. Definitely worth the wait. Now that the wedding’s behind you, when do I finally get you to myself?"

I didn’t cry. I didn’t shake. Something older than tears kicked in—the part of me that had grown up in foster homes, learning to read a room before I learned to read a book. I’d survived places where the wrong reaction got you moved, or worse. This was the same muscle. Assess the threat. Document the evidence. Decide later.

"Last night." Our wedding eve. He’d told me he was with his groomsmen. A final night of freedom—that was how he’d sold it. I’d smiled and told him to enjoy it. I’d been arranging his bachelor party’s after-party at the same time he’d been inside her.

I scrolled up. Months of messages. Flirtatious. Intimate. Plans. This wasn’t a mistake he’d made. This was a life he’d been running parallel to ours.

The champagne I’d been drinking turned sour. I made it to the wet bar before my stomach emptied itself—a quiet, clinical heave that left me gripping the marble. I looked at my reflection. Pale. Controlled. The face of a woman who’d just discovered she wasn’t a wife. She was a placeholder.

The Rossetti princess. Carlo Rossetti’s daughter. The woman the Moretti family had chosen for Alex years ago. And she’d been waiting. Patiently. Knowing she’d win.

No. Not patience. Certainty.

I straightened up. Rage was a luxury. I didn’t have the money for luxuries. What I had was strategy—the one thing that had carried me out of every bad situation I’d ever been in. I walked back to the bed and picked up my own phone.

Evidence. I needed evidence.

I photographed every screen of their conversation. Dates, times, the casual intimacy of people who’d never had to hide from each other—only from me. I checked the cloud sync. Confirmed. Deleted the local copies.

I picked up Alex’s phone again. Marked her message as read. Swiped the notification away. Placed the phone back on the pillow, at the exact angle it had been.

A flawless performance. I’d been giving those my whole life.

I sat on the edge of the bed, the bathroom door at my back. Behind the frosted glass, his silhouette moved under the spray. Three years. Three years of him telling me I was different, that I’d earned my place at his side. And all of it had been borrowed time he was spending until the family made him settle his debts.

His mother. Caterina Moretti. The look on her face during the ceremony—I’d catalogued it as reserved approval, the best I could hope for from a woman who measured people by their utility. Now I replayed it. Had it been pity? Or anticipation?

They all knew. His mother. The Rossettis. Probably half the men who’d toasted us at the reception. The only person at my own wedding who hadn’t known the marriage was already scheduled for demolition was the bride.

The shower cut off.

The silence pressed in. My pulse was a steady, controlled beat. I’d learned to do that—control what my body gave away.

The door handle turned.

I had about three seconds to decide what kind of performance I was about to give.

Alex walked out, towel around his waist, dark hair dripping, wearing the satisfied smile of a man who believed he’d gotten away with something. He saw me on the bed.

"What’s wrong, baby?" The question was lazy, warm. The kind of question a man asks when he expects the answer to be about him. "Couldn’t wait for me?"
