I screamed that Hope was dead, the words tearing at my throat. The more I screamed the truth, the more enraged the Don became.

Hudson commanded my silence with a flick of his wrist. Two massive enforcers seized my bruised arms and hauled me into the estate courtyard. Members of the Syndicate formed a silent ring.

My knees hit sun-baked paving stones. A soldier approached, his hand raised.

The first strike landed against my left cheek. The second against my right. I lost count. The world spun into black.

I awoke to the sharp smell of antiseptic, lying in a mob-controlled private hospital suite. Thick bandages wrapped my swollen face.

Hudson sat beside me, stroking my hand. “I only meant to scare you,” he murmured. “You’re a terrible mother for cursing our child with such lies.”

I pulled my hand away. “A man who publicly degraded his own daughter has no right to lecture me.”

His jaw clenched. He twisted the blame: my defiance in dressing Hope in white had caused everything.

Then he leaned closer, his tone shifting to business. Hazel had aggressive leukemia. I was the only viable bone marrow match in the registry.

He issued a Don’s Command. I would undergo the transplant and save Hazel’s life.

I stared at him. My eyes burned with dark, calculated hatred.

To his obvious surprise, I did not fight. I nodded slowly and agreed.

During the month leading to surgery, Hudson barely looked my way. He doted on Hazel in her VIP suite. He left me alone with my grief—and my plan.

I used my elite hacking skills to slip past the hospital’s encrypted firewalls. I altered pharmaceutical delivery schedules. Over three weeks, I secretly administered a full, lethal course of synthetic bone marrow toxin into my own system.

I poisoned my stem cells. She would never get them alive.

On the morning of the procedure, nurses wheeled me into the prep room. Hazel was there, pale but victorious. “An honor for a worthless civilian to extend a true Yale’s life,” she sneered.

Hudson stood by her side, excusing her venom.

I watched the mob doctor prepare the extraction needles. Then, with a steady voice, I announced: “I’ve been injecting myself with synthetic bone marrow toxin for the past month.”

The room went dead silent. The doctor frantically checked my bloodwork, turned ghostly pale, and stammered to Hudson that using my marrow would be instantly fatal to Hazel.

The transplant was canceled.

Hudson lunged at my bed, face twisted in fury. “You sabotaged her only chance!”

I looked straight into his raging eyes. “I would rather die than save the woman who murdered my daughter.”

His eyes darkened with a ruthless promise. He leaned close, his hot breath against my ear. “I’ll have my doctors inject you with aggressive nutritional IVs every single day. You will learn your place.”

I smiled with bloody lips. “Try me.”
