The Don's Melted Snow Novel Cover

The Don's Melted Snow

For fifteen years, she bled for her husband, a ruthless Mafia Don, helping him build his syndicate from nothing. Then, on their anniversary, she found a cheap strawberry lip balm in his armored car—proof of his affair with a civilian secretary now pregnant with his heir. He lied to her face and abandoned her to rush to the mistress's side, the same woman he gifted the flawless blood diamond he once promised his wife during their starving years in safe houses. Even his right-hand man had covered up the betrayal for months. But she didn't cry or beg. Instead, she left her cheap copper wire wedding ring on his pillow, drafted a severance demand for half his laundered assets, and booked her own first-class ticket to Europe. This time, she would see the snow for herself.

Chapter 2

Elena POV

I take the private elevator down to the security floor.

The corridor is empty, lit by low, humming fluorescent strips. The air smells of concrete and chilled server exhaust. I find Lorenzo in his office, bent over a stack of documents. As I enter, he stands from behind his mahogany desk. He sees my face, and his confident posture visibly deflates.

"The truth, Lorenzo," I say, my voice a blade of ice.

His voice falters. "Elena, I don't—"

"Do not lie to me."

He looks down at the floor, his shoulders slumping as the silence in the room presses down on him.

The story comes out of him in fragments.

He admits that Cassio has taken an interest in an outsider, a new girl working at one of our front companies. Her name is Serena. I recall Cassio mentioning a "Serena" a few months ago, a new secretary. I had been too busy reconciling the Syndicate's shadow ledgers to register a nameless face. But the name was not meaningless.

The details spill from Lorenzo, one after the other.

Cassio is not just working late at the docks. He has been buying Serena designer bags with the same funds I make clean. He has been ordering Lorenzo to deliver painkillers to her apartment when she has cramps. A sharp, bitter sensation crawls up my throat. I remember the time I was running a high fever, shivering under our silk blankets. Cassio had left me in the middle of the night to rush Serena to a Syndicate doctor for a minor scrape on her wrist.

"He sees her as… unprotected," Lorenzo tries to explain, his tone pleading. "She's a civilian, Elena. No father. Her mother just died."

He hesitates, then adds, almost to himself, "He looks at her like she's something fragile he needs to save. You… you're the one who's always been his shield."

I stare at Lorenzo. A wave of profound nausea washes over me. I cannot comprehend how the Don twists his betrayal into a perverse narrative—one where I am the unbreachable fortress, and the mistress is the defenseless village in need of his watch.

"You will say nothing of this," I tell Lorenzo, my tone leaving no room for argument.

"Elena—"

"You will not breathe a word of this to Cassio. That is an order."

Lorenzo remains silent. The only sound is the low hum of the server banks in the next room. Then, he nods slowly and swears his compliance. But his eyes hold something I rarely see in a made man: raw, undisguised guilt. He knows I will not let this rest.

I leave him standing alone beneath the fluorescent lights, his silence following me all the way back to the elevator.
