The Discarded Bride's New Beginning Novel Cover

The Discarded Bride's New Beginning

After eight years together, I thought Floyd was my future. But when a wooden frame collapsed at the lake, he ran right past me to help another woman. He didn't even glance at my shattered arm. "Wait a minute, Katerina!" he yelled, scooping her into his arms and sprinting away. His betrayal only got worse. He moved her into our home, into the nursery we had planned for our child. He even forced me to help her try on my wedding dress. When a display rack collapsed and gashed my head open, he left me bleeding on the floor to rush her to the hospital. He didn't just break my arm or my head; he shattered the eight years of love I had given him. He proved I was nothing more than a disposable inconvenience. Waking up alone in a hospital bed, I finally understood. I checked myself out, packed a single bag, and bought a one-way ticket to a new life.

Chapter 3

Katerina Chambers POV:

I stood at the altar, my heart racing with anticipation. The Beverly Hills estate garden was transformed into a fairytale setting—white roses cascading from crystal vases, champagne glasses gleaming in the afternoon sun, and a sea of expectant faces turned toward me. Eight years of love, sacrifice, and dreams had led to this perfect moment. My wedding dress—a custom Vera Wang with delicate lace detailing—hugged my curves before flowing out in a modest train. I'd spent hours choosing it, imagining the look in Ryan's eyes when he saw me walking down the aisle. "You look stunning," whispered my maid of honor, adjusting my veil. "Ryan is going to faint when he sees you." I smiled, scanning the crowd for his familiar face. Our story was supposed to be perfect—childhood sweethearts who grew up together, supported each other through college, and built our futures side by side. I had put my own dreams of developing optical technology on hold to help him build his company, believing that our shared success would be worth every sacrifice. The string quartet began playing our song.

The day my guardian, Dante Moretti, announced his engagement was the day I started planning my death. Not a literal one, but the death of the girl who had orbited his world for ten years. He was the Don of the Moretti family, the man I'd secretly loved since I was a child. But with his new fiancée, Sofia, on his arm, he began to erase me. He even forgot my severe allergy, gifting me a watch that would blister my skin. He had ripped apart the diary where I confessed my love for him. "I am your guardian," he'd spat. "Do not ever cross that line again." Yet one night, drunk and stumbling, he crashed his mouth onto mine, his hands roaming my body as he pushed me against the wall. He groaned, but the name that escaped his lips wasn't mine. "Sofia..." When I screamed my own name—Elara—he shoved me away in horror. He wasn't horrified by his betrayal, but by the fact that he'd kissed the wrong woman. That was the final straw. I took the acceptance letter to a university in Toronto that I had kept hidden like a prayer. I called my estranged father and booked a one-way ticket. This time, I would burn my old life to the ground and leave nothing but ashes behind.

I woke up in the tangled black silk sheets of the Mafia Don's bed, my skin still burning from his ruthless touch in the dark. The heavy door burst open, and his pristine wife, Bianca, looked at my bruised collarbones with visceral hatred. Instead of having me killed for soiling her husband's bed, she offered a devil's bargain. "You will take my place in his bed. You will be a shadow in the dark." In my past life, I foolishly accepted, thinking her money would pay for my dying mother's hospital bills. I didn't realize the untouchable Mafia Queen was barren and just needed a disposable incubator. After I endured the Don's violent possession and birthed the Moretti heir, they cut off my mother's medicine. Then, they dragged me to a remote warehouse and suffocated me with a wet mattress to bury their dirty secret forever. Until my last agonizing breath, I didn't understand why my absolute submission and suffering were rewarded with such a brutal, meaningless death. Opening my eyes again, I was back on the morning after the Don first claimed me. I knelt on the Persian rug, weeping tears of fake gratitude as Bianca handed me the cash. But the moment my escort looked away, I didn't take her fertility herbs. I bought a bitter root from an alley witch to keep my womb empty. This time, I won't give the Don a child. I'll become his darkest obsession, and use his lethal power to burn this entire family to the ground.

The grocery bags felt heavier than usual as I pushed open the front door of our suburban home. I'd cut my shopping trip short when a nagging headache started behind my eyes—a warning sign I'd learned to respect since my heart condition worsened. The doctor had been clear: stress could trigger episodes, and with my transplant scheduled for next week, I needed to stay calm. The house was quiet as I set the bags on the kitchen counter. Too quiet. Mateo should have been working in his home office, and our son should have been playing in the living room. Instead, the silence felt heavy, almost expectant. "I'll just put these away and rest for a bit," I whispered to myself, my fingers instinctively pressing against my chest where the familiar ache had begun to throb. As I reached for a glass of water, I heard Mateo's voice from his study—low, intimate in a way he rarely spoke to me anymore. The words weren't clear, but the tone made me pause.

I stood behind the velvet curtain, clutching a positive pregnancy test, waiting for the perfect moment to tell Dante our family was growing. Instead, I heard him laugh. "She is not the bride," Dante told his Consigliere, swirling his fifty-year-old scotch. "She is the bulletproof vest I wear until it is safe for Sofia to enter the city. When the bullets stop flying, we throw the vest in the trash." My world shattered. When Sofia arrived that night, she didn't just take my place; she boiled my beloved cat for dinner. Dante didn't defend me. He told me to clean up the mess or face punishment. To prove his devotion to her, he had his men drag me to "The Pit"—an underground fight club. I was thrown into a cage with a starving Doberman. I looked up at the VIP box, begging the man I loved to save me. Instead, Dante pressed the intercom button, his voice booming over the speakers. "One million dollars on the dog," he said. "She won't last three minutes." He covered Sofia's eyes to protect her innocence while the beast tore the flesh from my arm. That night, Elena Vance died in the dirt. One year later, the grieving Dante Moretti attended a gala for a mysterious new artist in New York. He dropped his champagne glass when he saw me on stage, alive, wearing a dress that revealed my ruined, scarred arm. "I didn't leave you, Dante," I said into the microphone, my voice cold as ice. "You killed me. And now, I'm here to collect my winnings."
