Chapter 6

Xander's words at the bar counter were still ringing in her mind. They got into Xander's car and were on their way back to her apartment. Angel didn't think that Xander had thought that far ahead. She thought Xander was a cold and arrogant man. Like there was no chance for her to get flattery from Xander Whithold. The ride home was very quiet. Angel tried to divert her boredom by staring at the monotonous view outside the window. Usually they would talk about Xander's very busy schedule and the various formal invitations he had to attend. Never had they been caught in such awkward silence. "Did you like the guy at the bar?" "Who?" "The man I sent away." "Um... We just got to know each other. I think he's pretty cool." "I'm sorry for sending him away." Xander glanced at her with a sour face. "You are very sexy and beautiful tonight. I don't think that guy is truly sincere to you." "Sincere or not, I don't care. I just want to have fun tonight." "Do you have a boyfriend?" "No, since several years ago." "What caused you two to separate?" "He's having an affair." Angel looked away towards the window. She was embarrassed to talk about her love story with Mario, which did not go smoothly. "That's the right action. Never give a jerk a chance." "How about you?" Angel suddenly realized that her spontaneous question had really crossed the line. She became confused and tried to improve the situation. But the question had already left her lips. "Are you saying that I'm as much of a jerk as your ex-boyfriend?" The traffic light turned red quickly when it was his turn to pass through the intersection. Xander was forced to stop the car, and he had a chance to turn towards his secretary. "Angel, you've been my secretary for years. You've seen everything I've done with those women." "You were disappointed with your ex-lover, and you tried to forget the pain by messing with those women?" Xander smiled bitterly. He didn't expect that he would share his bitter past with his secretary. "You've heard that a lot from Finn. You can judge me whatever you like." "I think you have every right to feel hurt because you were betrayed. But you can't keep up that pace of life. You have to stop someday and start being serious about the relationship you are in. Not all the women you've dated are bad, right? There must be one that caught your attention." "So far all women are the same. They just want pleasure from me, but they can't understand me. In fact, no one was better than Jennifer at the beginning of our meeting." "Maybe someday you'll find it." Angel didn't understand why she suddenly had an impulsive reaction to touching the back of Xander's hand that was lying on his toned thigh. She ignored the tremors in her own body and the heat that continued to spread from the nape to her cheeks. In all her years as Xander's secretary, Angel had never had such emotional physical contact. "Thanks, Angel. You are the best." Angel hurriedly pulled her hand away when the traffic light turned green. She stiffly kept her palms on her lap and looked straight ahead with her body very upright. Angel wanted to curse the stupid nervousness she was feeling. That was really embarrassing. She hoped Xander wouldn't notice her nervousness once their hands touched. "Oh my God, Angel! You only even touched his hand, not kissed him. Stop shaking!" Angel scolded herself in her heart. "Are you cold?" "N-no."' "Your body is shaking." "I... yes, maybe I'm cold. This dress is too revealing." Xander raised the thermostat and made the temperature in the car warm. But Angel was still shivering. Her brain went wild imagining erotic things with her boss. Her lips were still twitching with pleasure from her boss's kiss. She thought about holding on to that pleasurable sensation for as long as she could. She didn't want to lose the delicious taste of her boss's lips on hers. "Are you okay?" "Y-yes." She was getting impatient to run away and curl up under her blanket. She was sure Xander knew what was happening to her, but he pretended not to care. "We are here." "Thanks for the ride. See you tomorrow at the office." It was so awkward. This was their first time leaving the office formality zone. Angel couldn't focus on opening her seatbelt. She was so nervous because Xander was watching her with his sharp gaze. Her body became hot, and her nerves became sensitive. She would have probably moaned loudly like a bitch if Xander hadn't interrupted her suddenly. "Need help?" "Uh... I..." "Just tell me if you need help, Angel." Shit! She both hated and loved how Xander said her name. It sounded both sexy and dangerous with his slightly hoarse accent. "No. I can do it myself. You really don't need to help me." "Don't argue. I will help you." Angel gulped nervously when Xander bent in front of her to undo the seat belt around her body. She turned her face towards the window to avoid Xander's dangerous green eyes. A soft clicking sound jolted Angel's body. She quickly put away the seat belt strap and hurriedly opened the door. "Once again, thank you. I'll give you your jacket back in the morning, sir." "Call me Xander. We're not in the office, Angel." "Um... Okay, Xander." Xander watched Angel's awkward movements. His hands itched to do something. The image of his secretary's sexy body under the almost transparent dress stirred his mind. Impulsively, he grabbed Angel's shoulders and pulled her back into the car. "Wait." "Yes? Is there something you want to say?" "No." But Xander suddenly kissed her hard. Angel widened her eyes in surprise. Xander who was closing his eyes while enjoying her lips filled her entire view. His palm pushed her nape to deepen their kiss. His tongue flicked the seam of her lips before entering her mouth. Angel moaned softly in between their hot kisses. "Good night," Xander pulled his head away and whispered against her glistening lips huskily. Angel nodded stiffly. Her gaze was blank. She still couldn't believe that her boss had just kissed her. Again. She had been kissed twice by her boss in one night! She stepped out of his car and closed the door behind her quietly. Her soul felt like it was floating in the air. Her cheeks were burning hot. Her lips were twitching, and wet, and hot, and everything. Angela couldn't describe the feeling that was welling up in her chest. Oh my God! Xander kissed me? Hell must be freezing over right now. Xander, who was cold and never paid attention to me, suddenly kissed me? God, please don't ever wake me up if this is just a dream. The sound of Xander's car horn brought Angel out of her stupid daydream. She was still waiting on the sidewalk until Xander's car disappeared around the corner. A second later she groaned softly while rubbing her lips, which felt hot. Her lips felt heavy and had a hint of whiskey from Xander's tongue. Her cold and stiff boss suddenly turned warm to her. She had to thank Ellena for lending her that sexy tight dress. Xander no longer found her boring and too formal, instead he found her sexy and hot. "Kyaaa! "I'll go to the office in a tight dress starting tomorrow morning," Angel muttered hysterically. Walking into her apartment, Angel couldn't stop thinking about her boss and his kiss. She was sure that tonight she wouldn't be able to sleep without dreaming of her boss's handsome face while kissing her.

I spent two years navigating the stratified air of Spencer Kensington’s world, thinking I was the woman he loved. I even ate instant ramen for months to afford a vintage camera lens for our anniversary. When I got a mysterious text about "Operation Blue Moon," I thought it was our private signal for a proposal. Instead, I walked into a limestone fortress to find the Kensington and Van Der Woodsen Engagement Party in full swing. Spencer wasn't there for a romantic dinner; he was standing under a crystal chandelier, announcing his "business merger" with a blonde heiress. When I confronted him in a service hallway, he didn't apologize. He offered to buy me a brownstone and keep me as his "side project" while his mother, Victoria, watched from the balcony like a queen. "Vanessa is just furniture," he said, his voice full of a terrifying sincerity. "But you're the one I love. I can give you a life of ease." When I refused to be his dirty little secret, the retaliation was instant and brutal. By the next morning, I was fired from my reporting job, my father’s nursing home funding was pulled, and I returned home to find my apartment condemned by the city. My entire life was piled in wet boxes on a rain-soaked sidewalk. I couldn't understand how one family could have the power to erase a person’s existence in a single night. How could the man who kissed me yesterday watch his mother leave me homeless and penniless today? Standing in the rain next to my ruined belongings, a black SUV pulled up and Mayor Julian Sterling stepped out. He didn't offer me pity; he offered me a deal. "The Kensingtons are panicked," he said, his eyes cold and calculating. "And panicked people make mistakes. You have a reason to watch them burn. I want to see what you know." I took his hand, knowing he was just as dangerous as the people I was fighting, but I was done being the victim. This wasn't just a breakup anymore; it was a war.

I stood in the corner of the grand ballroom, trying to stay invisible despite the massive diamond on my finger. As the fiancée of the billionaire Arturo Watts, I was supposed to be the most envied woman in the room, but the suffocating scent of lilies felt more like a funeral than a gala. A waiter’s elbow clipped my arm, sending my clutch crashing to the floor and spilling its contents for everyone to see. Among my lipstick and phone lay a heavy, glittering brooch—the Pink Star diamond—that had just been reported stolen from the neck of a billionaire socialite. "Thief! Just like her father," the crowd hissed as cameras flashed like gunfire in my face. Tiffany Watts ground her heel into my bag, her eyes gleeful as she watched the "scammer's daughter" finally get caught. Just as security reached for my wrists, Arturo stepped out of the shadows, but he wasn't there to save me. He grabbed my face and kissed me with a brutal, bruising intensity, branding me in front of the news drones to turn my humiliation into a PR stunt for his company’s stock price. I thought I was being protected, but I soon realized I was just a prisoner in a gilded cage with new locks on the windows. I discovered the truth Arturo was trying to shred: I wasn’t his fiancée, I was his "key code." He was using my name to access fifty million dollars of my father’s hidden money, and he had blocked my FBI application to ensure I’d never uncover the trail. "I did it for you," he whispered, standing over me with the same cold, unreadable eyes he used on his business rivals. He thought he could buy my silence with designer gowns and a fake romance, but he forgot that I am my father’s daughter. I’m done being a liability in his corporate games. I’ve found the secret account and recorded his confession. If Arturo Watts wants to treat me like a target, I’m going to make sure I’m the one who hits the mark and takes every cent he’s hiding.
The Billionaire's Doll: Her Secret Escape

I was just a placeholder, a warm body in silk sheets to keep the bed from getting cold while my billionaire "owner," Garrick Head, dreamt of another man’s wife. To the world, I was Ever Wells, the lucky girl he’d plucked from obscurity, but in reality, I was a doll on a 145-day contract, counting every second until I could disappear. Everything shattered when a burner phone buzzed in my hand with a message that turned my blood to ice: "I know your secret, Everly." My real name was the one thing I had buried to protect my four-year-old son, Leo, who was hidden in a cramped apartment in Queens. Just as the blackmailer closed in, Leo’s asthma flared into a life-threatening fever, and the medication he needed cost thousands I didn't have. When I tried to siphon money to save him, Garrick sensed my desperation and froze my credit cards, mocking my "poverty" and demanding I crawl back to his bed to earn his favor. The nightmare intensified at a high-society gala when Clarence Frazier, a dangerous ghost from my past, cornered me. He mouthed my real name in front of the cameras, his eyes promising to tear my fake life apart. Garrick’s possessiveness turned violent as he broke a man’s jaw for insulting me, yet in the same breath, he reminded me I was nothing but a "rented whore" he’d bought off a shelf. I had to smile while he kissed me and detach my mind while he touched me, all while siphoning pennies into a hidden account. He thought he could finalize my imprisonment with a twenty-million-dollar apartment on Central Park West, calling it a gift when it was really just a heavier lock on my golden cage. "I don't want to save the world," I whispered to the empty, marble penthouse after he fell asleep. "I just want to save my son." With a predator from my past watching my every move and a master who treated me like a pet, I realized I couldn't wait for my contract to end. I had to run tonight, or Leo and I would both die in this cage.
