Chapter 2

I had also torn up my lower part to be able to deliver my babies.

After I pulled my first baby out, I found that he was no longer breathing.

At that time, blood gushed out from between my thighs, and the second baby was at the torn opening.

The sticky blood smeared my hair, and I hugged my bloody firstborn as I stopped breathing. My eyes were wide open.

How would Mark react if he saw this?

But he only cared about hugging Rachel right then, and he spoke in a regretful, guilty tone. “It’s my fault. I shouldn’t have let Jane show up in front of you and make you sad. I swear that this will be the last time she’s pregnant with my babies. I won’t let you see another pregnant woman in the house ever again.

“You don’t know this, but she lied to me to make me pity her. She said that the twins were too big, and she was worried that she would have a very difficult labor. She even said the doctor suggested she be hospitalized immediately.

“She managed to survive in the wilderness for three days and nights despite starving, yet she has the galls to tell me that she’s scared about giving birth!”

My heart ached so much pain that I could not breathe.

A pregnant woman’s body was different from an ordinary person’s. Besides, from the moment I was pregnant with the twins, the discomfort from the pregnancy tormented me so much that I was exhausted.

There were a few times when my body was in such horrible condition that I had to be hospitalized in order to save the babies.

When I was locked up in the attic, I did my best to beg Mark to let me out because if I was really locked up for three days, I knew that I was definitely going to die along with my babies.

But Mark said to the butler, “Go and throw the keys into a river. No one is allowed to open the door for Jane. Three days later, I’m going to make her apologize to Rachel!”

In order to survive, I removed the painting on the wall to reach the window behind it. I smashed it at the cost of my hands being reduced to a bloody mess, and I forced it open, even if it meant that my nails were torn.

I endured the searing pain and forced myself to crawl to the eaves outside. I then held onto the tiles for dear life and shimmied my way to another room to escape.

But I saw Mark holding onto Rachel tightly and kissing her in the garden.

They kissed wantonly and looked like they were about to go even further.

Then, Rachel pushed Mark away, looked up, and screamed.

Mark looked up and flew into a rage when he saw that I was trying to escape.

He was sure that I had deliberately shown up in front of Rachel again, so he ordered someone to get a crane. After that, he piloted the boom and pushed it against my stomach to force me back into the attic.

Pain shot up from my stomach, and blood flowed endlessly from between my thighs.

In the end, I held onto my bloody firstborn with my eyes wide open as I took my last breath.

Mark fed Rachel the milk he had brought over for her.

“I already sent someone to bring Jane over to apologize to you. If she’s sincere about it, I’ll have them send her to the hospital. If she’s not, she can give birth in the attic.”

Rachel took small sips of the milk but still choked and coughed so harshly that she teared up. She looked pitiful.

“Mark, you can’t do that to Jane. It’s very dangerous for women when they give birth.”

Mark sighed and stared at Rachel dotingly. “You’re too kind, and that’s why Jane bullies you. Jane is an expert survivalist. Even if she doesn’t have anything to eat or drink, she can still survive for three days. As for you, you’re so weak that you’d even choke on milk.”

He flicked her nose. “How can you say that it’s dangerous for women to give birth? You make it sound like you gave birth before.”

Panic flashed momentarily in Rachel’s eyes, but she immediately lowered her head and said sadly, “Mark, you’re the only one who can see just how frail I am despite the tough front I put on…”

She looked up again, and her eyes welled up with tears. She bit her lip to make it look swollen and moist.

She wrapped her hands around Mark’s neck and pushed her body forward against his.
