Chapter 5

When I woke up again, I found myself lying in a hospital bed while a nurse was changing my IV drip.

When she saw me opening my eyes, she couldn't hide the disgust in her gaze.

She muttered under her breath, "Just my luck… Of all the patients, I get this heartless man."

After she was done, she hurried away like I'm some hideous beast.

I turned my head toward Harlan, who gave me a bitter smile. "Zachary, the whole internet is filled with dirt on you. You're the number one trending topic everywhere…"

I picked up my phone and saw negative articles about me dominating the top spot on Twitter. Videos of me on Instagram had already reached ten million views.

Seeing that, I let out a quiet sigh of relief. Everything was going according to plan.

Just then, Quintus' voice came from the doorway. "Zachary!"

I looked up as he pushed the door open with a furious expression. But when he saw the bandages on my head and how pale I looked, he sighed wearily.

He said, "How could you insult the police officer who saved your wife? There are hundreds of influencers and reporters looking for you right now. Come with me. We need to get you somewhere safe for a while."

Feeling touched by his concern, I managed a smile. But before I could speak, a crowd flooded into the room.

Leading them were Sylvia and Raven's husband, Malcolm Jones. They supported Raven's elderly mother, Olga Newman, between them. Behind them was a group of influencers and reporters.

The moment Olga saw me, she dropped straight to her knees.

She said, "Mr. Lawton, I'm just a useless old woman… I used up so much of Raven's money on my illness. Now that she's in a coma, I can't even afford her hospital room. I've failed my daughter!"

Instinctively, I wanted to help her up. However, I forced myself to clench my fist and step back.

"I'm begging you. Can you treat it as a loan, please? Help us through this crisis. I'll sell my blood if I have to! I'll pay you back," Olga begged.

With every plea, she clasped her hands together desperately and bowed her head to the floor.

I crossed my arms and looked at her coldly. "No need to beg me. I've already said that once Sylvia signs the divorce agreement stating she leaves with nothing, I'll transfer the money immediately."

Sylvia looked me up and down, feeling utterly perplexed.

After thinking for a moment, she turned to glance at Malcolm before turning back to me.

"Zachary, a few million dollars is nothing to you. Have some mercy on Raven's family," she pleaded.

Malcolm stepped forward, his face gaunt with exhaustion. He knelt in front of me with difficulty.

It was his turn to beg. "Zachary, please. Once everything is settled with Raven, I'll go get a job immediately to repay you. Please help us, won't you?"

I stared down at him and let out a cold laugh. While he and Olga continued kneeling on the floor, I pulled out my phone. I began scrolling as if no one else existed.

"Oh my god. He really is cold-blooded. They're kneeling, and he's just tapping away on his phone."

"Everyone in the livestream, let's curse this bastard together. I wish scum like him dies soon!"

After the influencer started cursing me, the crowd agreed with him and echoed his words. They insisted I shouldn't refuse to help the family of the person who saved Sylvia.

I wore an indifferent expression as I saw the number-one trending search that read, "Cold-Blooded Lawyer Zachary Lawton".

I opened an Instagram Live. There were 800 thousand people watching. The chat was filled with insults. As I watched the number rise rapidly, I chuckled under my breath.

The reporters exchanged confused looks.

Sylvia suddenly broke into tears while shouting at me, "Let me ask you again. Are you really only willing to pay if I leave the marriage with nothing? Are you really abandoning your own child?"

I glanced at her and snapped impatiently, "Sign it already. Stop dragging it out."

"Fine, I'll sign! If you're so sure I'll be a burden, I'll sign it right now as you wish," Sylvia cried out.

The crowd whispered and pointed. With trembling hands, Sylvia extended the signed divorce papers toward me.

"Are you satisfied now?" she asked.

I took the agreement. Upon seeing that the agreement stated she would indeed leave the marriage with nothing, I smiled.

Glancing at my phone, I saw the livestream numbers had just passed 20 million.

My grin widened as I said, "Sylvia, since you've given me something so satisfying, it's about time I reveal the truth to the world."
