The Billionaire I Slept With Became My Husband

Chapter 3

One year later.

The numbers on the treadmill's display blurred as Chloe's legs pumped relentlessly. Her ponytail whipped back and forth, and sweat soaked through her sports bra, highlighting the lean, powerful muscles of her back.

She stepped off the machine and walked to the wall of mirrors.

The woman staring back was a stranger. Deep-set eyes, a sharp jawline, a flat stomach, and long, graceful limbs defined by hard-earned muscle. The girl who was nearly 200 pounds was gone, replaced by this sculpted, formidable woman.

But the transformation had come at a cost. When she turned sideways, faint silver lines stretched across her lower abdomen and inner arms—stretch marks from the rapid loss. She had learned to conceal them with high-neck tops and long sleeves, a small price for the armor she now wore. The loose skin on her upper thighs had tightened with months of targeted strength training, but she knew the marks would never fully disappear. She had made peace with that. They were battle scars.

Her phone buzzed with a client call—a hedge fund manager's daughter applying to Stanford. Chloe answered in her crisp, professional voice, rattling off essay strategies and interview prep tips in under five minutes. The call ended, and she allowed herself a small, grim smile. Her reputation as one of the city's top Ivy League admissions consultants had only grown during her year of isolation. It was the one piece of her old life she had kept polished.

Back in her apartment, her phone rang. The screen read "Brenda."

Chloe's eyes went cold. She answered, her voice calm and even. "Hello."

Brenda's sickly-sweet voice oozed through the speaker. "Honey, how have you been? I've arranged a meeting for you tonight. He's a very reliable man, you absolutely must go."

"Oh, really?" Chloe said, toweling her damp hair, her tone flat. She knew this was no act of kindness.

Brenda laughed, a condescending little sound. She still thought Chloe was the same weak-willed girl. "His name is Rick Tucker. He's a truck driver, a big, strong guy. He's been divorced twice, has a bit of a temper, but men are like that... You can't be picky. With your condition, you're lucky anyone's interested."

Chloe's gaze sharpened into daggers. So, ruining her reputation wasn't enough. Now they wanted to throw her to a violent brute to finish the job.

"Okay, I understand," Chloe replied, her voice betraying no emotion. "Send me the time and address."

After she hung up, Brenda's mocking tone still echoed in her ears. Chloe looked at her reflection in the mirror, a cold, dangerous smile playing on her lips.

Oh, she would go. But not for a blind date.

She was going to crash their party and give them a gift they would never forget.

She pulled up Chris's latest intelligence report on her tablet. Chris was a work associate, and a genius hacker.Brenda and Tiffany's communications had been intercepted for months. Chloe knew every detail: Tiffany's desperation to secure a meeting with Julian Sinclair, Brenda's back-channel negotiations with the Sinclair family's social secretary, and the confirmed reservation for tonight at Seraphina. Table 6. Julian Sinclair. And Table 9—Rick Tucker.

Chloe had been playing the long game. And tonight, the board was set.

Downtown, in the penthouse office of the Sinclair Group, Julian Sinclair stood before the floor-to-ceiling windows, looking down on the sprawling expanse of New York City.

His assistant, Liam Reynolds, stood respectfully behind him. "Mr. Sinclair, your grandmother, Mrs. Eleanor Sinclair, called again to remind you. The appointment at Seraphina tonight is mandatory."

Julian rubbed the bridge of his nose in frustration. It had been a year. He had used every resource at his disposal and still couldn't find her. Not even a single blurry security photo.

The hotel's security footage for that entire wing had been mysteriously corrupted—a coincidence that had infuriated him. His investigators traced it to a freelance data scrubber hired by an unknown third party. The trail went cold. All he had was the memory of her soft body, her terrified eyes, and the 2000 Massachusetts state quarter that had vanished from his nightstand when she left.

That coin had been a gift from his late mother. It was irreplaceable.

"I know," he answered coldly. The pressure from his family was mounting. He needed a wife to silence them. If he couldn't find her, then marrying anyone else was all the same.

He had spent the past year searching for a woman of nearly two hundred pounds, with dark hair and a distinctive red mole on her left hip. Every lead had been a dead end. He had no idea she had transformed herself beyond recognition.

Chloe opened her closet. It was now filled with perfectly tailored dresses and power suits.

She bypassed the more flamboyant options and chose a simple, black silk dress. It was understated, but the quality was superb, clinging to her new figure in all the right ways.

She applied light, elegant makeup, emphasizing her bright, emerald-green eyes. Her long hair fell in soft waves over her shoulders.

A text from Brenda arrived. Seraphina restaurant. 8 PM. Table 9.

Chloe looked at the number "9" on her screen and let out a humorless laugh.

She picked up her phone and dialed a number. "Chris, do me a favor. Check the reservation for table 9 at Seraphina tonight."

Less than a minute later, a message came back. Rick Tucker. Attached was a driver's license photo of a brutish man with a cruel face.

Chloe replied, Thanks. Now check if there's a reservation under the name Tiffany Price.

Chris's reply was quick. No. But there's a table 6 reserved by the Sinclair Group. Note says it's for Mr. Julian Sinclair and a guest.

Julian Sinclair. The name made Chloe pause. Of course she knew who he was. Tiffany had chanted his name like a prayer for the past year.

So that was their plan. Tiffany gets the billionaire, and she gets the beast.

A brilliant, wicked idea began to form in her mind.

She looked at herself in the mirror one last time, a captivating and dangerous smile spreading across her face.

Tonight was going to be very interesting.

She grabbed her clutch, slipped on her heels, and walked out of her apartment like a queen heading into battle.
