Chapter 5

Chapter 5. Evelyn POV. Our mouths laid on top of each other like we have been lovers. I looked into his eyes. I squeezed my brow, curiosity filled me. I hope he will say something. Something meaningful about these unknown entities. Who barged into the room, not just any room. One of the rooms in the palace mansions where the newly wedded alpha and his Luna are sleeping. In short, one of the safest rooms in the pack. "Never mind," He whispered back. His warm breath laced with alcohol, caressed my skin. "Have you ransacked the bathroom?" Their leader asked. His voice was distant. The other quickly moved into the bathroom. I could hear the footsteps of his shoes approaching. Our eyes lit up in shock behind the door. Alpha James quickly placed his finger tip on my lips. A sign of quietness. Do not shake. Danger lurks. My breath seized. I looked into his eyes and fear gripped me. Sweat trickling down my face. Hand on the knob. It turned. The bathroom door creaked open. It made a funny sound that danger is here. We glue ourselves like well flattened snakes at the bark of a tree, ready to attack his prey. "Let's get out of here!" The voice from the bedroom snapped, "no sign of anyone here." The one peeping into the bathroom replied, "cleared!" He turned, and looked at the other wolf who was pacing around the room in anger. "I saw Alpha James coming into the room not long ago, and Luna Evren had been in the room just immediately after the party. I asked guys to keep their eyes on them." He retracted his footsteps back into the room. If he had fully gotten into the room, tilted the door a little bit, behind him, he would have seen us. He would have seen how we had perched to the back of the door. "When you are not smart enough to give correct intelligence!" The other wolf voice snapped. "Let's get out of here before anyone meets us here." Not long. Their footsteps disappeared. The door shut. I heaved a sigh but something caught my attention. Something important. Alpha James wanted to hug me but I held back his arm. "But, wait..." He turned and looked at me. His eyes were devoid of nervousness or panicking which was the exact opposite of mine. I just saw death. Someone just came in to threaten or exterminate me. "Those guys called my name..." I sought alpha James' faces for an answer. Still nothing. "Why are they after my life?" He looked into my eyes, smiled, and placed a wet peck on my forehead. It is nothing, "Nothing?" I quickly cut-in. "Yes nothing, " he answered, putting up a smile. I didn't want to press too much. All I want for us is to continue what we started. So it could afford me the opportunity to carry out my plan. Sorry, my father's plan. I paced my footsteps behind him as we walked out of the bathroom in stack nakedness. "It's just normal pack business between some unruly people who don't want to see us together. Unfortunately, they have chosen today to strike." He picked his clothes on the floor and started to put them on. He turned to me, bent low and pecked me on the forehead. "Give me a few minutes, my Luna. I have business to handle." He stepped out of the room fuming with rage. I could hear his footsteps fading away. "Fuck!" I balled my arms into fist as I slammed it onto the mattress repeatedly. 'Plan failed. Is he coming back into the room?' I said to myself. If he failed to come back. It means I am screwed. What will I tell my father? That I couldn't chip Alpha James. A baby task of this manner I couldn't successfully carry out? I think I am screwed. Father wouldn't blink twice before he removed me from his plan. From the scheme of things. I pray within me for Alpha James to come back into the room. But minutes turned to hours but yet, he didn't show up. I looked around but I couldn't find anything that was close to a male possession to signify that this room is his . I gravitated to the wardrobe. Just a few female shoes and bags. This room is meant to house alpha James'concubine or one night stand or... I picked my undies, scattered on the floor. Would It be stupid of me to remove the hair clip and hide somewhere safe since I was not sure if he is coming back into his room. The following morning I woke from bed with a knock. Check everywhere in the room. Alpha James didn't show up. "Fuck!" I muttered. Balled my hand and jammed it against the other in disappointment. I ran my hand through my hair. Alpha James didn't show up. Not even his break light. Then a knock on the door. I rearranged myself properly. No one should see me moody. " Please, your breakfast is ready," the word emanated from the doorway. "Can I bring it now?" I paused a little bit before answering. "Yes, you can come in." Antonia, one of the attendants who had applied my makeup the previous day, entered the room wearing her palace uniform. She carried a tray laden with food and fruit, which she carefully set on a nearby stool. She looked around, checked corners of the room and bathrooms to see if there was anyone. She brought out a piece of paper from her inner wear and gave it to me. "Boss said, I should give you this."
