Chapter 5

Amy's POV His eyes and their sharp intensity held me until he stood right in front of me, the already small room that only contained the bed I was sitting on right now seemed to shrink by a size or two before he spoke. "Tell me something, what's your angle here?" He asked the amusement lost from his voice I could tell he was not playing around with me and a shiver ran down my spine but I steeled myself to remain bold and keep eye contact with him all these days that I have starved myself refusing food and any other form of sustenance was to get his attention if they wanted to sell me off for the highest price they couldn't do so if I looked half dead that's my hope at least his eyes carried me in patience in grieved in them but I cleared my throat and spoke up. "The maids told me that you usually don't have a problem sleeping with the women you are going to use as hookers, that's what I want." He scoffed, it sounded first though, "I've already told you that I have no interest in you and I'm using even more by your desperation." I clenched my teeth, this was really going nowhere. It didn't look like he was going to budge. "Then I won't work for you." I said plainly and there was a deadly glint in his eyes, he held my chin keeping my eyes on imprisoning me in his gaze. "It seems you don't understand your situation clearly, bunny this isn't negotiation, your boyfriend sold you off like a second-hand car. And now I have 10 million that someone has to pay for, unfortunately that someone is you." I swallowed the lump down my throat. "And if I say no?" His lips curled downwards, "you don't want to know what will happen if you say no," I found myself laughing even though it seemed like my life was hanging by a thread. It was really funny while I thought of it. I had loved a man viciously for the past 5 years giving him everything and anything. There was never a moment of rest, while we were in college I was stuck between classes and the moment I stepped out of class it was right into a part-time job he moved in with me just two months into dating then paid the rent once and never again. Any friend that didn't go about him being the best man in the world was cut off which means I was pretty much isolated by the time I graduated from college. But I didn't care. So what if I was losing the friends I had known for years here was my man who was willing to do anything and everything for me at least he said he would Jeremy was all about the promises and never about the action if we went by his promises alone translating them perfectly into reality we should be living in our own Villa in a gated community with five kids. Now the dream I had chased for years had turned to be no more than a mirage. It was all gone, it had been my everything, my reason for living. I closed my eyelids. "If you're going to take me out please just make it quick, put me out of my misery already." He dipped his hand into his pocket and pulled out a gun, raising it to the same level as my head. I could see this because my eyelids were not completely closed. "Are you testing me? Do you think I won't pull this trigger if I want to?"The cold metal was now resting on my neck, pressed against the side. "I don't take well to people who try to test me and you should take my word for it when I say they always regret it. Do you want to be one of those people?" "I don't want anything, it's clear that I was never supposed to be happy or have anything worth living for so you might as well just take me out now and put a stop to all my suffering so that I can finally be free." Neither of us moved but I could still sense the shield coming from the gun the knowledge that anytime he might pull the trigger and that would be it the curtains would follow my life completely and it would all end there Jeremy would probably continue his own life no surprise that he might still end up in the same position where he had to sell me I wonder if he's going to toss away the woman who's with him now. Clearly he doesn't know how to love just how to use and it was something I refused to see for so long until it brought me here. The second stretched out like decades until finally I opened my eyes and so that he was staring straight at me finger on the trigger but he wasn't pulling it. "How about we make a new deal, something that will not only clear off the 10 million debt but give you enough money to start your life fresh," I blinked rapidly before I could speak. He continued, "don't think I'm doing charity here, you're going to work for that money, just not the way I previously planned for you." He pulled the gun away from my neck and then pushed it into his pocket concealing it once more. "Madame Loretta I believe you remember her, she'll prepare you for tonight." "What's happening tonight?""I asked my pulse, he hadn't even said what job he was going to make me do and honestly I was getting a bit frightened but at the same time I had been pushed too far for too long. He turned his back to me. "You'll find out soon and they will not be going back, do you understand?" "Yes... I understand." He looked over his shoulder. "And eat your meals you need your strength for what is to come." He left the room and as his steps faded into memory I leaned against the wall and asked myself what the heck I just agreed to.

In my past life, the bullet chambered in the gun on the desk was less lethal than the indifference of the two men standing beside me. Dante and Matteo were supposed to be the future kings of Chicago, and I was their queen. But they threw it all away for Sofia—a liar with a pretty face and a fake sob story about a gambling father. They forced me into a gilded cage, making me serve Sofia like a maid while they played her saviors. They didn't even mourn me; they were too busy comforting the girl who would eventually destroy them. I died realizing that my loyalty was my fatal flaw. "I don't need your protection anymore."
