SAVING ANGEL

What do you want in return for saving my daughter?" Japheth Williams asked blankly. Gilda quickly sprang up, "No. I didn't save her because I wanted a prize, Angel is just too...." Chapter 6

GILDA'S POV

I was shocked to hear the words that had poured out of his mouth. My hands were shaking, my body won't stop reacting to the message.

I felt I did not hear correctly, but I could not lie about that; I heard it so well. It was clear, I did not need an interpreter for it. There was no need for one.

I held the bed and just stared, too shocked to speak. Next, I felt the little girl's hands on my skin; it seemed like she was urging me to accept the offer, but it was too dangerous for me.

I did not spare her a glance because I was scared I might give in.

" I know you heard me, you heard what I asked of you," his voice came on again.

It was now clear that I was not dreaming or thinking things on my own.

" I can not do it," I finally made up my mind.

What are people going to say? They are going to talk about how I have seduced him and thrown my body at a helpless man in a wheelchair.

I closed my eyes and imagined what the headlines would be. I shook my head. That's impossible. It's not going to be me in the news for such reasons.

I stood up, trying to find my way out of the place. I felt that same hand that had touched me, the little hand.

My heart sank into my stomach. I could not do this; it is going to cause much harm to my little career I'm trying to build, the one they wish to take from me so badly.

" She wants you to stay, she likes you," Japheth Williams said calmly.

It was my dream to finally meet the Williams family; perhaps, they could grant me some favours, but right now, everything was falling apart.

" Thank you for bringing me here, for being so kind to me, you kept me safe, but I can not remain here, I can not stay here, I'm so sorry, Sir," I finally said out loud.

I saw the disappointment on his face, then the sad look on his daughter's face. I could not look at her twice; she was going to make me change my mind, and I did not want that.

I left their house, even though it was hard for me to find my way out. It was big and so beautiful, I almost regretted leaving.

I ran away. There was nothing on me. But there was a little purse on me. I was glad it was not taken away.

I stood by the roadside, hoping I would get a cab that would take me back home. My legs were hurting me, and I was doing all I could to fight back the tears that had filled my eyes.

I was trying so hard to be strong and not give up so easily, or appear weak, even though I felt weak.

Just the moment I thought things would be better, it gets worse and makes me feel stuck.

I raised my head and saw a car coming along. I waved at it with my weak left hand. I was hungry as well.

" Get in," he said coldly.

It felt a bit off; something was not right about that voice.

But I had no other choice but to get in. I have been standing by the roadside for a long time, and I could no longer stand there, so I had to get in.

I sat in his car and kept my eyes on him the whole time. Maybe Vera and her mother sent him to kill me or take me to the old man forcefully.

I was helpless, and even though he wanted to do such, he would have succeeded.

" We are here," he said, bringing me out of my thoughts, into reality.

I stared hard at the house in front of me. I was back in this hell, in this hole. I was back in this temporary home.

I paid him and stepped into the place. Memories of Vera and her mother's screams filled my ears. For every step I take towards the house, it makes it even louder.

I raised my hands and tried to knock when I held them in the air. I kept thinking if it was a wise decision.

It wasn't a wise decision, but it was the only one I had, the only one I was left with.

There was nowhere else to stay, not even money for a bed space.

I heard footsteps coming close to the door. I was too scared to move. The door opened, and there she was.

Vera gasped as she saw me standing there. There was so much shock on her face at first, then it turned into a wide smile. It was suspicious.

" Come in," she said sweetly.

I know Vera too well; she was far from being a kind person to me. She was never going to treat me that way.

I stepped into the house and saw why she was acting like that. I knew it was never because of kindness.

" The stray dog has found its way home. I am glad you came back to your senses, and you must have realized that you can not be anything at all," my step-mother said to me.

I looked at the old man who was sitting at the other end of the long chair. His grey hair was all over the place. His face was wrinkled and ugly; it made me want to vomit.

He smiled at me, happy that he was finally going to have me.

" You make me want to throw up," I said.

He immediately frowned.

" I do not like to be disrespected," he faced Vera and her mother.

" I am sorry about that. I'll take care of it," she said.

I watched as she stood up, held me by the hand and pushed me inside the room. She pinned me to the wall, not minding that my fingers were against the wall and were bruising badly.
