Chapter 3

While we waited for Jackson to show up, Christina grew even bolder.

She held the yellow roses and spoke to me smugly. "Josephine, I get that you grew up poor and love shiny things, but I won't let you slander me like this.

"You need to get on your knees and apologize. You also need to promise you won't use my name again. If you don't, my husband will teach you a lesson!"

I almost laughed.

I didn't even speak yet when the other interns jumped in.

"Christina, you're way too kind. She lied about you this badly, and you only asked her to kneel and apologize."

"Dr. Tyson, Mr. Reed isn't someone you can joke about. You should kneel now. If Mr. Reed gets here, he won't go easy on you."

"Yeah. I heard Mr. Reed never appears in public. But he came all the way here for Christina. Doesn't that tell you how serious this is?"

Jackson did hate showing up in public. That was just who he was. I never thought it would be used against me.

This whole thing was insane.

I let out a cold laugh. "Let's see who walks away today!"

Christina had been posing as me, using my identity as Mrs. Reed, everywhere. She even took my car and changed the interior.

I needed to know how she pulled it off. I couldn't let her drag my name through the mud.

Christina scoffed. "You can keep acting tough. You'll see what my husband can do any minute now."

Right then, noise rose from the entrance. The hospital director, Edward Doyle, and several department heads rushed forward.

"Mr. Reed, welcome. What a surprise to see you here! Why didn't you let us know? I would have come out to greet you personally."

"Mr. Reed, that 30 million dollars you invested in our medical equipment solved a huge problem for us. Everyone here is so grateful to you."

I looked up, and sure enough, it was Jackson. He walked toward us with steady steps, his expression calm.

Zoe Fitzgerald was the first to rush over with a flattering smile. "Mr. Reed, you really love Mrs. Reed. The second you heard she was upset, you came right away. Look, Mrs. Reed has been waiting for you forever."

At that, she pointed straight at Christina.

Jackson followed where she was pointing, glanced at Christina once, and then said in a low voice, "Honey, come here."

The moment he said that, everyone immediately grew excited. They all stared at Christina with pure envy.
