Revenge After Rebirth
Chapter 2
I picked to eat at a seafood boil.
As soon as the dishes were served, I called them over to eat.
"Cody, grab a couple of crabs for Mira. She’s too far to reach them."
Cody’s hand had already stretched out, but the moment Mira gave two little coughs, he quickly pulled it back.
"Thanks, Emily, but I don’t like crab."
"I remember you couldn’t stop talking about how much you wanted crab just last year. Do you not like it, or you can’t eat it?"
The question made them both freeze. Their guilty expressions, especially Cody’s, made me smirk inside.
I remembered in my past life, Cody swore on his life that his sister couldn’t possibly be pregnant.
That was the only reason I agreed to run the test for Mira. Even when the whole thing blew up in court, he insisted he hadn’t known.
This dinner was my test to see if he had known all along. And clearly, he had.
He’d been lying to me all along!
I gripped the jug of water tightly, barely restraining myself from pouring the ice-cold water over their faces.
"Of course it is because I don’t like crab.”
"Then I must’ve remembered wrong. Have some more shrimp instead, then." I let the topic drop with a calm smile, as if nothing had happened.
Once everyone was nearly done eating, I headed to the counter to pay, but the waiter stopped me.
"That gentleman already paid your bill."
I followed the direction of the waiter’s finger and spotted a familiar face.
It was Noah, my childhood friend.
In my past life, Noah had only met Cody once before he said, "Emily, what are you thinking? After all this time, you picked him?
“He’s obviously unreliable. If you’re going to date anyone, you’d be better off with me!"
However, I was blinded by love back then and refused to hear a single bad word about Cody. I fought with Noah so badly that we ended up cutting ties completely.
This time, I hurried over to Noah and whispered in his ear, "Help me out here. Just follow my lead!"
I pulled him over to stand in front of the siblings.
"Cody, let’s break up. I’ve found someone new."
Right on cue, Noah slung his arm over my shoulder.
Cody’s face twisted with anger, ready to lash out. However, when he realized Noah was a full head taller than him, he backed down and muttered, "Fine."
Behind us, Mira panicked and shouted, "Emily! Wait, don’t go yet! You still owe me that check-up!"
I acted as if I hadn’t heard a thing.
However, I celebrated too soon. People like her, who were disgusting, clingy, and shameless, did not let go so easily.
At four in the morning, the department head called me.
"Emily, did you have a pregnant woman go through a CT scan yesterday morning?"
