Chapter 1

I was the lowest Omega of the Silver Moon Pack, treated like dirt and expected to scrub floors while Liam, the new Alpha, prepared for his succession ceremony on my eighteenth birthday.

At the stroke of midnight, the fated mate bond suddenly struck us. The future Alpha was my destined mate, but instead of accepting me, he looked at my dirty clothes with pure disgust.

He publicly rejected me in front of hundreds of pack members and visiting delegates.

"I cannot be tied to a weak, pathetic Omega," he declared, pulling the Beta's daughter close.

I was forced to accept the rejection, the snapping bond tearing my soul apart. No one offered help as I convulsed on the floor. I underwent a torturous first shift and was thrown out into the freezing snow like garbage.

I thought my life was over, condemned to die alone. But when I looked at my reflection in the frozen pond, I froze.

I was a flawless, glowing White Wolf—a legendary bloodline thought to be extinct for centuries. How could a worthless Omega like me possess the sacred power of the Moon Goddess?

Before I could process this, a terrifyingly powerful man stepped out of the dark woods.

It was Alpha Kael of the ruthless Blood Eclipse Pack, a monster known for wiping out entire bloodlines.

He draped his heavy coat over my shivering body, and a new, fiery mate bond instantly ignited in my chest.

"Found you," he whispered, his eyes turning pitch black. "My little white wolf."

Chapter 1

Elara POV:

*A pail of sullied water arched through the air, striking the floorboards in a great splash that instantly soaked the thin fabric of my dress.*

*A deep, agitating chill seeped past the cloth and into my skin.*

I looked up from my hands and knees.

Sienna stood above me, holding an empty bucket.

She was the Beta's daughter, and here in the Silver Moon Pack, bloodline was everything. *Alphas and Betas occupied the world as if it were their personal drawing-room, while Omegas like me were little more than the scuff marks on the floorboards*-expected to scrub and take the abuse without a sound.

"Clean it up, Omega," Sienna sneered, *and the wooden bucket left her hand, tumbling end over end toward my head.*

*I flinched aside, but its rim struck my shoulder, leaving a dull, throbbing ache in the bone.*

I did not speak.

I just grabbed my old rag and started wiping the cold water from the floorboards.

*Tonight, at the stroke of midnight, I would turn eighteen*-the age of our first shift and, if the Moon Goddess was not a complete stranger to mercy, the discovery of a fated mate. *But I held no such fanciful expectations. Who would want an Omega whose scent was a permanent mingling of bleach and old floor wax?*

Sienna leaned down, her face close to mine.

*A pendant of polished white gold, fashioned into the shape of a howling wolf, dangled from a chain at her throat. I flinched from the sight of it, a reflexive recoil, as if the metal itself held the sting of her cruelty.*

"Liam is taking over the Alpha title tonight at midnight," Sienna whispered, *a cruel little smile playing on her lips.*

Liam was our current Alpha's son, *a figure of celebrated strength and form.*

"He needs my father's backing to secure his position, which means he'll be announcing me as his Luna. *Get used to the feel of these floors, Elara.*"

Suddenly, a voice echoed inside my head.

*All pack members, gather in the main hall. The ceremony begins in one hour.*

*The Alpha's Mind-Link, a telepathic command I was forbidden to ever answer, echoed not in my ears but in the very marrow of my bones.*

Sienna stood up straight, smoothing her beautiful red dress.

"You better finish this mess, Omega," she said, walking away.

I was left alone in the cold hallway.

*My hands twisted the sodden rag, and a stream of grey water dripped into the pail.*

As I did, a sudden wave of heat washed over my body.

It was not the normal warmth of the room.

This heat started deep in my bones and spread to my skin, making me sweat instantly.

My breathing grew heavy, and a strange, sweet scent began to rise from my own skin.

My mind started to feel foggy, my logical thoughts slipping away, replaced by a raw, restless instinct.

I gripped the edge of the bucket, trying to steady myself.

The fever was getting worse.

*The narrow utility closet became my only sanctuary, its doorframe scraping my shoulder as I lurched inside. My body trembled, a violent, uncontrollable shuddering. Through the grimy pane of its single window, the clock tower hands marked the minutes with an agonizing slowness. Ten. Twenty. Forty. Each tick was a lifetime as the fire in my veins gathered its strength, a prelude to the midnight transformation I both craved and feared.*

Midnight was approaching, and my body was preparing for the shift.

But this overwhelming, dizzying fever felt like something else entirely.

It felt like my soul was desperately reaching out into the dark, searching for something it was missing.

*My own legs, trembling like a newborn foal's, pushed the weight of my body up from the floor.*

I had to get to the main hall.

If I missed the Alpha ceremony, the punishment would be severe.

But as I took my first step out of the closet, a strange scent drifted down the hallway, making my heart stop completely.
