Rejected Mate's Silent Vow Novel Cover

Rejected Mate's Silent Vow

The day of the rejection, I left with nothing but my medals. Alpha Caden was as indifferent as ever. He barely glanced up at me, his broad shoulders framed by the dim light of the pack hall, and asked, "What about our son? No more dreams of him becoming a champion warrior?" I managed a wry smile and shook my head. "No, he doesn’t want that life, and there’s no point in pushing him." I couldn’t erase the memory of our son, Wilson, angrily shoving me away, yelling, "All you ever do is make me train! I don’t want you as my mom anymore; I want Aunt Arya!" Since neither of them wanted my love or my skills, I decided to take them away. ============================== "Are you serious?" Alpha Caden tapped the black-and-white rejection papers, looking up at me with the calm demeanor that first attracted me to him. Back then, his composure was captivating. In my line of work as a Gamma warrior, I was always too competitive, so meeting someone unflappable drew me in. But now, after seven years of being mates and a six-year-old son, Alpha Caden was still the epitome of calmness and detachment.

Chapter 2

The ticking of the clock snapped me back to reality. I brushed off Alpha Caden’s remarks and simply reminded him to review the agreement outlining the division of assets. If everything was in order, he should sign it as soon as possible. With that, I grabbed my bag and headed for the door.

"Hold on," Alpha Caden called, his voice low but commanding, the weight of his alpha tone pressing against the room. "You’re only taking your trophies?"

He flipped through a couple of pages of the agreement and glanced at me, his expression anything but agreeable. I nodded, my posture firm despite the tension in the air. "When I became your mate, those trophies were all I brought with me. Now that we’re parting ways, they’re all I’m taking."

Everything else, including Alpha Caden and Wilson, I was leaving behind. Perhaps sensing that I wouldn’t return, he finally broke the silence, his tone softer but still laced with authority.

"Ophelia, whatever your thoughts may be, you’re still my mate and Wilson’s mother. I won’t leave you with nothing. I’ll let you have this house. You’re welcome to stay here if you choose, or..." He hesitated, offering an alternative. "If you don’t want to, the downtown apartment can be transferred to your name soon. As for support, I’ll ensure you receive it monthly..."

"Suit yourself," I replied, my voice steady but cold. "How much you send is your decision. Now, can I leave?"

Out of the corner of my eye, I spotted Wilson peeking around the corner. He stood still, his expression a tiny replica of Alpha Caden’s, filled with emotions mixed with a noticeable hint of excitement. My wolf stirred within me, a soft whimper echoing in my mind, but I pushed it down. There was no room for weakness now.

Seeing Alpha Caden had nothing more to add, I waved dismissively and moved toward the door. Just as I opened it, I heard Wilson rushing over, his voice eager and hopeful.

"Dad, after Mom leaves, will Aunt Arya come live with us? I don’t want to train anymore; it’s too hard. Can I spend time with Aunt Arya instead?"

My steps faltered for a moment, the weight of his words pressing against my chest. My wolf growled softly, a mix of pain and anger, but I forced myself to remain composed. Then, I pushed the door open more forcefully and walked out without looking back. The cool night air hit my face, a small relief from the suffocating tension of the house.

As I stepped into the darkness, I felt the bond between Alpha Caden and me stretch thin, the mate bond that once felt unbreakable now a distant echo. My wolf’s presence in my mind was faint, as if even she had retreated into the shadows. I took a deep breath, my fingers tightening around the strap of my bag.

This was my choice. My path. And I would walk it without hesitation.

The sacred healing springs shimmered in the pale dawn light as I knelt before them, my knees aching against the smooth stones. Steam rose from the crystal-clear waters, carrying the scent of minerals and ancient magic that had blessed countless generations of the Sterling Moon Pack. This was my twenty-seventh fertility ritual in five years – I'd counted every single one. "Please, Moon Goddess," I whispered, my voice breaking as I sprinkled the mixture of herbs Healer Elara had prepared into the bubbling spring. "Grant me the strength to bear an heir for the Sterling Pack." My wolf, Luna, whimpered inside me, exhausted from years of these rituals. *We've tried so hard*, she mourned. *So many moons, so many prayers.* I felt the weight of disapproving gazes boring into my back. Elder Margaret's scent – pine needles tinged with disappointment – was unmistakable, as was the cold vanilla and cedar that belonged to my mother-in-law, the former Luna. They'd come to observe, as they always did, their silent judgment more painful than any words. "The water must fully absorb the essence," Elder Margaret instructed, her voice clipped.

The leather-bound folder felt heavy in my hands as I slid it across the polished oak table toward Austin. Five years of work, countless late nights, and careful negotiations had gone into these trade agreements. The Shadow Ridge Pack would prosper because of them—because of me. "You've outdone yourself, Gia," Austin said, barely glancing at the meticulously prepared documents. His fingers drummed against the table as he practiced his speech for the tenth time. "The Alpha will be impressed." I smiled, ignoring the familiar ache in my chest. "The Silver Moon delegation will be here in an hour. Is everything ready?" "Everything's set." Austin straightened his tie, his eyes darting to the door. "This is our moment. Once we secure this alliance, no one will question my position anymore." I stepped closer, my fingers reaching for his collar.

I baked the pastries before sunrise. That was always how I worked — early, quiet, alone in the kitchen while the rest of the Pack House was still sleeping. My hands knew the recipes better than my mind did. Flour, butter, the particular ratio of spiced honey that my father had written in the margin of page forty-three in his careful, slanted hand. I didn't need to measure anymore. I just knew. I'd been kneading the dough for almost twenty minutes when I realized my shoulders had finally dropped. That was the thing about working with my hands — it was the only time the tightness in my chest loosened enough to breathe. Shepard had been distant for weeks. Distracted in a way that felt deliberate, like he was practicing it.

The ancient oak trees of the sacred grove stood sentinel around me as I knelt before the moonlit altar, my once-proud shoulders now slumped in defeat. Ten days. Ten agonizing days of whispers, cold shoulders, and downcast eyes from those who once called me sister. Ten days of watching my status as a celebrated warrior of the Silver Moon Pack crumble like sand between my fingers. My wolf, Luna, howled in anguish within me, her silver spirit dimming with each passing hour. We were dying—not physically, but spiritually. The mate bond that should have strengthened us was instead draining our essence like a slow-bleeding wound. "Where are you, Ryan?" I whispered, my voice cracking as I traced the ancient runes carved into the stone altar. "Why have you abandoned me when I need you most?" The sacred grove had always been my sanctuary, the one place where the whispers couldn't reach me. Tonight, the full moon bathed the clearing in ethereal light, illuminating the tears that tracked silently down my cheeks.

Isolde woke up in a freezing, ruined stone house with a splitting headache and only five percent of her life signs remaining. She had transmigrated into the body of a cruel noblewoman who mercilessly tortured her beastmen husbands with a barbed whip. And right now, she was lying in a pool of her own blood, having been shoved against the stone floor by one of them. Outside the rickety door, her husbands were coldly discussing her death. "Just go in and finish her. One stab, and we're free." "If she hit her head and died on her own, then it's an accident. We walk out of here as free males." To test if she was faking her sudden amnesia, the snake beastman Dangelo even ground his heavy military boot into her injured hand, waiting for her to snap so he could legally end her. She was poisoned, freezing, and entirely at the mercy of the men who deeply despised her. She was bearing the deadly consequences of a monster she never was, with a red system warning of imminent death flashing in her mind.
