Rejected Luna’s Hidden Mate Novel Cover

Rejected Luna’s Hidden Mate

Roman Hudson, Alpha of the Silver Moon Pack and Lycan Prince, needed a Luna, and the Alpha Council chose me. Three years into our mate bond, we maintained a polite relationship, living a life that could be considered stable. He courteously called me "Luna," while I addressed him as "Alpha." There was no deep connection between us, only a bond that gradually formed over time. Initially, I thought Roman was as emotionally reserved and detached as I was. But later, I learned that he had once been deeply in love. He had defied his parents' wishes, giving up his position as heir to the Lycan throne, all for her. Together, they had run wild through the forests of the Mediterranean, howled beneath the full moon in the Appalachian wilderness, and found peace in a small pack nestled in the Alps. Eventually, his family found them, tearing apart their vibrant love story. When he shared this with me, I was deeply moved. I asked him, "Have you ever thought about finding her again?" Roman extinguished his cigarette, his Alpha aura flickering faintly, and replied calmly, "She's already forgotten me." I became his Luna at twenty-five, our bond arranged by the Alpha Council to strengthen alliances between our packs.

Chapter 1

I asked him, "Have you ever thought about finding her again?" Roman extinguished his cigarette, his Alpha aura flickering faintly, and replied calmly, "She's already forgotten me."

I became his Luna at twenty-five, our bond arranged by the Alpha Council to strengthen alliances between our packs. It was a union based on responsibility, family, and mutual benefit—love had no part in it. Roman was two years older than me, not a significant difference in the werewolf world. He carried himself with the commanding presence of a Lycan Prince, his aura strong and unwavering. He was like an ancient tome, filled with forgotten stories. I sensed this at our first meeting. Whether it was the pause as he looked at my hands or the way his gaze wandered as he sat across from me, it was clear he had a story to tell. Such a person seemed out of place in a mate arrangement. Yet, there he was.

As I stirred sugar into my coffee, I thought with indifference about how none of us can escape the Moon Goddess's plan. When the time comes, we follow the path laid out for us. It was true for me, and it was true for him as well. The weight of his title, the expectations of his pack, and the shadow of his past all loomed over him, shaping the man he had become. And though our bond was stable, I couldn’t shake the feeling that something was missing—something neither of us dared to name.

The first whiff of smoke reached me through the ventilation system—a faint, acrid scent that made my nostrils flare. I paused in front of the mirror, my fingers still adjusting the collar of my blouse. Tonight was supposed to be Declan's "Chosen Mate" ceremony—a cruel mockery of what should have been our moment. "Probably just someone burning leaves nearby," I muttered, trying to ignore the knot in my stomach. But the smell grew stronger. Too strong. I followed the scent to the kitchen, where wisps of gray smoke curled from beneath the refrigerator. My heart hammered against my ribs as I yanked the appliance away from the wall, revealing frayed wires sparking against the wooden floor. "Shit," I whispered, backing away as flames licked upward, hungry and swift. Panic surged through me as I lunged for the nearest exit—the French doors leading to the garden.

The Blood Moon Ceremony began with the soft rustle of leaves and the hushed whispers of the Silver Creek Pack. I stood on the periphery, my simple worn dress a stark contrast to the elaborate gowns of the other females. My fingers nervously smoothed down the fabric—the best I owned, yet still inadequate for such an important night. "Charlotte, don't stand so tall. You're drawing attention," my mother had whispered before she died, her eyes filled with a sadness I didn't understand then. Now I did. As an Omega, I was the lowest rank in the pack hierarchy. The dirt beneath their paws. The joke they whispered behind their hands. I'd spent my entire life being reminded of my place—until the Moon Goddess blessed me with a miracle.

The white silk of my ceremonial dress rustled against the marble floor as I adjusted my position at the altar for what felt like the hundredth time. The moonstone necklace I'd spent three months crafting lay heavy in my palms, its intricate silver filigree catching the candlelight that flickered throughout the pack house's grand hall. Each delicate stone had been hand-selected, each wire carefully twisted into Celtic knots that symbolized eternal bonds. Now it felt like a weight threatening to drag me under. The altar stood decorated exactly as I'd envisioned—white roses intertwined with silver ribbons, candles arranged in perfect crescents to honor the Moon Goddess, and the ceremonial chalice filled with blessed water from our territory's sacred spring. Everything was ready. Everything except my Alpha. My wolf, Sage, paced restlessly within me. *Where is he?* she whined, her anxiety bleeding into my consciousness like acid. *The moon is already high.

The sorcerers of the Vaelgorr Pack finally breached the forbidden boundary, successfully developing a witchcraft capable of extracting the memories of the dead. And the first one lying cold on the experimental table was me. When Father heard the news, he merely furrowed his brow. "That selfish, nasty girl? All she ever did while alive was cause trouble, and now she has to disgust us even in death? Today is Jasmine and Colin's Marking Ceremony! No one is to broadcast this filth in the pack!" Jasmine—my stepsister—was currently clinging to Colin's arm. And Colin, the man who once pledged his vows to me before the Moon Goddess, now wouldn't even spare a glance at my corpse. It wasn't until the memory footage was forcibly projected during the ceremony that they finally saw the whole truth. They knelt on the ground, confessing their regrets to me. Too bad, I was already dead. Their tears came far too late. A whole lifetime too late.
