Rejected Luna Finds New Life

Pain seared through my body like liquid fire. I gripped the edges of the birthing table, my knuckles white as bone. The contractions were coming faster now, each one more brutal than the last. "Push, Luna Jessica! The pup is crowning," urged Elder Willow, her ancient hands steady despite the urgency in her voice. Midnight had fallen over the Crescent Moon Pack, and the healing chamber glowed with silver light as our pack's healers channeled their energy toward me. My own healing abilities were useless now—I couldn't focus through the agony to help myself. "Something's wrong," I gasped, feeling a sharp, tearing sensation deep inside. "The pup—" Blood pooled beneath me, too much blood. The metallic scent filled the room, and I saw fear flash in the eyes of the younger healers.

Chapter 1

"The pup—"

Blood pooled beneath me, too much blood. The metallic scent filled the room, and I saw fear flash in the eyes of the younger healers.

"Her pressure is dropping," someone said, voice tight with concern.

My vision blurred at the edges. Where was Michael? My mate, my Alpha, should be here. I reached out through our bond, searching for his strength, but felt only a distant, cold acknowledgment.

"Luna Jessica is hemorrhaging!" Elder Willow's voice cut through my haze. "All healers, focus your energy now!"

Their hands lit up with silver healing light, pressing against my abdomen, my forehead, my heart. I felt the warmth of their magic seeping into my failing body, trying to anchor me to this world as darkness threatened to pull me under.

The door burst open, and for one blessed moment, I thought Michael had come. But it was Charlotte who stumbled in, her face contorted in pain, one hand clutching her swollen belly.

"Help me!" she cried out. "The baby—something's happening!"

Behind her, Michael finally appeared, his face ashen as he took in the scene—me, his Luna, bleeding out on the table, and Charlotte doubled over in pain.

I reached for him weakly. "Michael..."

His eyes met mine for just a moment before sliding away, focusing entirely on Charlotte. And then, in a voice that froze the room, he issued the command that would shatter my world.

"Leave Jessica," he ordered, his Alpha tone vibrating with power that made the healers' hands falter above me. "Save Charlotte."

The room went still. Even through my pain, I felt the shock ripple through every person present. Elder Willow's hands trembled against my skin.

"Alpha, your mate and pup will die if we—" she began.

"That was an order!" Michael roared, his Alpha aura flaring violently. "Charlotte carries my heir. Save her now!"

My heart splintered in my chest, a pain far worse than childbirth. My wolf howled in anguish, thrashing against the betrayal. As the healers hesitated, torn between their Alpha's command and their duty to their Luna, I felt myself slipping further away.

Through dimming vision, I saw Beta Anderson step forward, his jaw set in defiance. He didn't speak—he didn't need to. With a single, decisive gesture, he directed half the healers back to my side while nodding for the others to attend to Charlotte.

"Defy me, and you'll be banished," Michael threatened, but Anderson didn't flinch.

"Then banish me, Alpha," he replied quietly, "but I will not watch our Luna die."

The silver light intensified around me as the healers worked with renewed determination. I felt my wolf fighting alongside them, clinging to life not for myself, but for the innocent pup who deserved a chance to live.

Hours later, I awoke to the soft whimpering of my newborn son. We had survived, thanks to Anderson and the healers who had risked everything to save us. My body was weak, but healing. My heart was another matter entirely.

As I nursed my pup in the quiet aftermath, voices drifted in from the corridor outside. Michael's voice, smooth and proud, introducing someone to what sounded like visiting Alphas from neighboring packs.

"...my Luna, Charlotte. We're expecting our first pup soon."

My breath caught. My wolf went utterly still within me. In those few words, Michael had erased me—erased us—completely. The mate bond between us vibrated with a sickening wrongness, stretched to breaking.

I looked down at my son, his tiny face peaceful in sleep, unaware that his father had just denied his existence. Something cold and resolute settled in my chest where love had once lived.

"We don't need him," I whispered to my pup, a promise and a vow. "We never did."

I stood in the shadows of the grand Shadowmere Pack House, my trembling hands clutching the silver tray of champagne flutes. Each crystal glass caught the light from the chandeliers, fracturing it into a thousand mocking stars. I tapped my pencil against the edge of my sketchpad, staring at the half-finished design for the ceremonial necklace I planned to surprise Marcus with for our fifth anniversary. The silver and moonstone piece would symbolize our enduring bond—five perfect years as Alpha and Luna of the Silverstone Pack. "What do you think, Lyra?" I whispered to my wolf, who purred contentedly in my mind. *Beautiful, like all your creations, Victoria.* My inner wolf had always been my greatest supporter, even before Marcus. I smiled, setting down my pencil and stretching my arms above my head. The afternoon sun streamed through the windows of our shared study, casting a warm glow over the polished oak desk. Marcus had left his tablet behind this morning in his rush to handle what he'd called an "urgent pack matter." I reached for it, thinking I could review some of the anniversary celebration plans we'd been discussing. We'd granted each other access to our devices years ago—a symbol of trust between mates. The screen lit up at my touch, revealing a messaging app I rarely used. A notification blinked insistently in the corner—from Amber Rodriguez, our new pack coordinator.

Rain battered against the windows of our bedroom as I paced anxiously, one hand resting on my swollen belly. Our Beta asked from the doorway, concern etched on her face. "No, thank you. I'm just waiting for my mate." I smiled, though it didn't quite reach my eyes. On what should have been my eight-year anniversary with Felix Jones, the heir to the Silver Moon Pack Alpha, he humiliated me in front of the entire pack. Overwhelmed by alcohol and distress, I stumbled into the wrong room at the pack’s central hall during the gathering. The next day, when he heard I was planning to resign as his assistant, he laughed and hung up on me, assuming it was just a whim and that I’d come crawling back in a few days. But I booked a flight that very night and cut off all ties with Felix and everything connected to the Silver Moon Pack. Thinking my heart was broken beyond repair, my friend Abigail, an Omega like me, took me out to a local pub to drown my sorrows. My cheeks were flushed from the alcohol as I held onto a stranger, sobbing out my remorse: “I honestly didn’t mean it that night.” “I only acted that way because I was drunk. Please, forgive me,” I begged. “Saints and angels, I’ve run so far they surely won’t find me, right?” The room went quiet all of a sudden, except for Abigail, who dared to nudge me. Through tear-filled eyes, I looked up, and there was the familiar face from that night—Ronan Moore, a Beta from the Crimson Fang Pack. “So, Miss Rivera, are you not planning to take responsibility for your actions?” he asked, his voice low and firm, his Alpha aura pressing down on me even though he wasn’t my Alpha.

I smoothed down the front of my silver gown for the twentieth time, my fingers trembling slightly as they traced the delicate beadwork. Three months of overtime shifts at the pack's coffee shop had paid for this dress—a dress I'd hoped would finally make me look like I belonged among the Silvermoon elite. Like I deserved to stand beside their future Alpha. "You can do this, Lauren," I whispered to my reflection, forcing a smile that didn't quite reach my eyes. Seven years of loving Steven, seven years of enduring whispers and sidelong glances from his pack members, and tonight was supposed to be the beginning of the end of all that. Our marking ceremony was just weeks away. The Full Moon Festival was in full swing by the time I arrived at the clearing. Fairy lights twinkled in the trees surrounding the ceremonial grounds, and the enormous bonfire cast dancing shadows across the faces of pack members dressed in their finest. The scent of roasted meat and sweet wine hung in the air, mingling with the earthy perfume of the forest at night. "Lauren!
