Rejected by the Beta, Crowned by Fate

Upon arriving at the pack’s headquarters, a Delta guard abruptly blocked my path, tossing my personal belongings to the ground before me. Beyond him stood my mate and the Beta of the pack, Dustin, his expression cold, his brows furrowed in silence. Moments later, his sister Bella, a Delta herself, strode over and shoved me harshly. "Get out of here!" she shouted, her voice sharp and venomous. "My brother’s done with you. You’re just an Omega, dreaming of competing with a high-ranking heiress for my brother’s attention. Look at yourself—what makes you think you’re worthy?" I didn’t argue; instead, I smiled ruefully. "I guess those major alliances I was negotiating are off the table now. You might regret this decision." Bella scoffed and spat on the ground dismissively. "Pfft, once my brother mates with the heiress, do you really think he’ll care about your tiny deals?" As I turned to leave, Dustin finally spoke, his voice icy and detached.

Chapter 1

Upon arriving at the pack’s headquarters, a Delta guard abruptly blocked my path, tossing my personal belongings to the ground before me. Beyond him stood my mate and the Beta of the pack, Dustin, his expression cold, his brows furrowed in silence. Moments later, his sister Bella, a Delta herself, strode over and shoved me harshly.

"Get out of here!" she shouted, her voice sharp and venomous. "My brother’s done with you. You’re just an Omega, dreaming of competing with a high-ranking heiress for my brother’s attention. Look at yourself—what makes you think you’re worthy?"

I didn’t argue; instead, I smiled ruefully. "I guess those major alliances I was negotiating are off the table now. You might regret this decision."

Bella scoffed and spat on the ground dismissively. "Pfft, once my brother mates with the heiress, do you really think he’ll care about your tiny deals?"

As I turned to leave, Dustin finally spoke, his voice icy and detached. "I was just playing with you. Don’t even think about trying to bother me again."

I ignored him and stepped into the elevator, feeling more bewildered than angry. Could there really be another heiress besides me?

---

After successfully securing a crucial alliance with a rival pack, I returned to the headquarters, only to notice the pack members whispering and pointing behind my back. I brushed it off, eager to share the news with Dustin. But as I approached the entrance, two Delta guards blocked my way.

That’s when Dustin casually emerged from behind them, Bella at his side. One of the guards tossed a box at my feet. "Beta Dustin says you’re expelled from the pack."

Stunned, I looked at Dustin. "What’s going on, Beta? What does this mean?"

He stood there, arms crossed, cold and silent, merely glancing at Bella. Without hesitation, Bella pounced, her words dripping with venom.

"Can’t you see? You’ve been expelled. Now get lost!" she yelled. "Oh, and by the way, my brother wanted me to tell you that your mate bond is rejected, starting now!"

This sudden declaration left me speechless. I asked, not entirely convinced, "Bella, are you serious?"

She stepped forward and shoved me again. "Do you think you have the right to call me ‘sister’? You’ve been living off my brother, working in his pack, and still have the nerve to ask for recognition."

"My brother’s been meaning to reject you for a while. Hurry up and leave, and don’t cling to him anymore!"

I turned my gaze to Dustin, who remained unfazed. Before I could speak, he cut me off. "That’s right, just go. We’re done."

Dustin and I had been mates since our youth. After my awakening, I helped him rise to the position of Beta, contributing to the pack’s success. Through all these years, this was the first time he spoke to me so coldly. He had always been the attentive mate, my protector in the pack. What had changed? Was it all just an act?

"Beta Dustin, we’ve been mates for so long. Don’t I deserve an explanation for this?"

"Do I need a reason to reject you? I just don’t feel the bond anymore."

His words stuck in my throat, leaving me speechless. Once I calmed down, I realized there was no point in arguing. He was right—if the bond is gone, any excuse is pointless.

"Fine, give me the keys so I can retrieve my belongings from the pack house."

Bella jumped in again, pointing her finger at me. "What belongings? Everything was provided by the pack! What right do you have to take anything? Try it, and I’ll report you to the Alpha for theft!"

I brushed her finger aside. "So that’s it—you can’t bear to part with my things because they’re valuable, huh?"

"You… you’re talking nonsense! My brother is the Beta; I don’t need to worry about resources. But look at you, acting like you’ve never seen wealth, living off the pack to claim all those items!"

I nearly laughed out loud. Those items were mine, many of them rare gifts from my own pack, worth more than what Dustin’s pack could afford in a year. If they didn’t want to part on good terms, I wouldn’t need to hold back either.

I shook my head in pity. "Fine, consider it a donation. I’ll leave, but those alliances I negotiated will fall through. When your pack’s resources dry up, don’t come crying to me."

Bella spat at me again, her voice dripping with disdain. "Pfft! You’re just an Omega. Do you think threatening him with that will stop the rejection? You actually think you can compete with a high-ranking heiress for my brother? Who do you think you are?"

I paused, absorbing her words. Could this be the explosive secret I’d just stumbled upon?

The morning air bit at my skin as I ran alongside the pack, my wolf—Luna—keeping perfect pace with the others. These runs had always been my sanctuary, a time when rank mattered less than the pure joy of movement. Today felt different. The pack moved with unusual tension, glancing toward Daxton's massive black wolf form at the front. I pressed my palm against my sternum, a habit I'd developed to contain the unease that had been growing for weeks. And then he stopped. Daxton's wolf halted so abruptly that the entire pack stuttered to a standstill, a ripple of confusion passing through hundreds of wolves. I shifted back to human form, as did the others, the collective energy of the pack vibrating with uncertainty. Daxton stood tall, his Alpha aura pulsing with an intensity I'd never felt before—raw, desperate, almost feral. 'I've lied to all of you,' he announced, his Alpha tone reverberating through the clearing.

The full moon hung heavy in the night sky, bathing the forest in silver light as our pack ran through the trees. My wolf, Luna, was restless inside me, sensing something wrong before I could piece it together. I slowed my pace, letting the others surge ahead as I followed my instincts. The scent grew stronger as I approached the packhouse, mingling with something I knew all too well—Alexander's musky pine scent. My heart hammered against my ribs. "What are you doing, Alex?" The sterile scent of antiseptic filled my nostrils as I walked through the familiar corridors of our pack's medical clinic. My hand instinctively moved to rest on my still-flat stomach, where our second pup was growing—a secret I'd planned to share with Eric tonight over his favorite dinner. Dr. Aris Thorne's voice drifted from the examination room ahead, warm with congratulations. "This is such wonderful news, Alpha. Becoming a father again must feel incredible." I paused, confusion creeping up my spine like ice water. Again? Eric and I hadn't told anyone about my pregnancy yet. We'd only just confirmed it ourselves three days ago. "She's perfect, isn't she?" Eric's voice was thick with an emotion I recognized—the same wonder he'd shown when we first heard our daughter's heartbeat years ago.

I gripped the wheel of my Porsche through a Manhattan downpour, staring at the positive pregnancy test on the passenger seat. Haden's voicemail was my only answer. A semi swerved into my lane. Brakes failed. I slammed into the guardrail, airbags exploding, pain ripping through my gut. Headlights pierced the rain. My sister Corrie stepped out under an umbrella, smiling coldly. "Beauvais Fashion is liquidated. Dad's dying." Haden stood beside her, eyes dead, shoving equity papers through the window. "Sign, or no ambulance." I tore them up. Corrie lit a flare, tossed it onto the gas-soaked seats. Flames whooshed as they walked away. I woke strapped to an operating table, agony tearing me apart. "No heartbeat," the doctor said. Nurses pinned me down. Instruments invaded. Corrie dropped a death certificate on my chest, then set the room ablaze with alcohol and a cigarette flick. Smoke choked me. A cabinet blocked the door. I collapsed, burning. Then a man in black burst in, scent of cedar and tobacco, scooping me from the fire. Five years later, I'd rebuilt myself as Sloane, flawless and cold. I signed a sham marriage to Donavan Mason, nursing his dying grandfather in their estate—the house that swallowed my father's legacy. Betrayed by my lover and sister, child ripped away, identity erased—how could they do this? Who was the man who saved me? The sensation of falling wasn't like flying; it was heavy, violent, and smelled of burning flesh. Above us, on the crumbling balcony of the Sears manor, Duke Cato Sears turned his back, shielding his cousin Bianca from the smoke as he walked away, leaving my sister Blossom and me to drop into the abyss. As the darkness slammed shut like an iron door, I realized my entire life had been a cruel script written by the people I called family. In my first life, I was the sacrificial lamb of the Dawson manor, sold to a man who eventually watched me die without blinking. My sister Blossom had pushed me into Cato's arms to avoid his rumors, only to laugh when the fire finally consumed us both. My father had measured my value like a piece of livestock, and my step-grandmother didn't even acknowledge my existence while I was being led to the slaughter. I died in that fire, feeling the heat scorch my skin and the weight of a hatred so potent it tasted like bile. I spent twenty years being the weak, manipulated shadow of a girl, only to end up as nothing more than a phantom scorch mark on a "hero's" estate. I couldn't understand why my own blood treated my life like a game they could discard. The injustice of it all burned hotter than the flames that took my last breath. Then, I sat up, sucking in air that tasted of lavender and air conditioning, not smoke. I was back in my bedroom, three days before the engagement ball that ruined my life. Blossom stood at the door, her "sweet" mask slipping as she tried to manipulate me into the Duke's path again. She thought she was the only one who had come back, but she didn't realize that this time, I was going to let her have exactly what she wanted: the Duke, the bankruptcy, and the living hell that awaited her in that house.

Silas, the Alpha of the Shadow Moon Pack, made three bids at the pack auction to secure the rare medicine that could save my father, only to turn around and give it to Phoenix Montgomery, his Gamma, to feed her pet rabbit. I knelt in the pouring rain, pleading with him to show some compassion for the friendship and mentorship he once shared with my father. But instead of any empathy, I received the news that Phoenix had taken my place as his trusted advisor and was going to a new territory with him. It wasn’t until the Healer delivered my father’s third critical condition notice that I finally reached Silas on the mind link. On the other end, Phoenix’s voice chimed in, “Alpha is in the shower. Want me to pass on a message?” Gripping the phone so tightly my fingers turned white, I managed to say in an even tone, “Nothing urgent, just the rejection.” ... After ending the mind link, I went straight to the pack lawyer to draft the rejection papers. Turning around, I noticed Arely, a Delta from our pack and one of my father’s former students, arriving with concern. They were shocked that something so significant had happened, and I was left to bear it alone. I didn’t make any excuses for Silas.
